A Ritz-Carlton hotel (269 rooms) and residences (44 above the hotel and 132 in an adjacent tower) and marina has been announced and is expected to open in 2011. Near the Tampa International Airport, the location on Old Tampa Bay is where Rocky Point Drive meets Campbell Courtney Causeway. The hotel will have 30,000 sq ft of meeting space and a 15,000 sq ft spa and wellness center. The marina will have boat slips for guests and residents. Their goal is to be Tampa Bay's first 5-2514 hotel, but they will be competing with The Sandpearl on Clearwater Beach, which opened earlier this year. More on this ... 11/30/2007

Many areas of the country have had successful developments of Ritz-Carlton Hotels and associated Ritz-Carlton condos. The nearest to Tampa has been the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, a very successful project. Tampa Bay does not yet have a 5 star hotel, so this could be great news for the tourism industry in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in Florida.
