I live in a small quaint town of Ponce Inlet, the southernmost municipality in the greater Daytona Beach area. The town is on the tip of the island, past the roads to the bridges, so there is not pass through traffic, no hotels, motels... Just miles of wide white sandy beach, dunes, ocean, river, homes and condos, not higher than 7 stories, but even this is history, as you can't build anything higher than 35' in Ponce Inlet. The businesses in Ponce Inlet are Marinas, and waterfront restaurants. There is a beautiful park at the tip of the peninsula home to the only pet feindly beach in the area. Also, there is a County Marine Science Center. Now there is a plan to build college-run marine laboratory adjacent to Volusia County Marine Science Center. The Town Council and Daytona State Coll...

I live across the street from the Ocean here in a small quaint town of Ponce Inlet just a mile north of the pride of Ponce Inlet (and Florida) - the tallest and the most beautiful Lighthouse in Florida. As far as I know it is the second tallest in the nation, but I do not know where it is. My idea of vacation is simple: go to the beach when it is not yet very hot, enjoy walking the beach, swimming in the ocean, relaxing. I like watching the waves, the ocean is never the same, and I never get tired of it. A family friend  suggested that we all go to Mexico, and I asked her what we would be doing there. And she told me: "Walk on the beach, swim, enjoy the ocean, the warm weather, just vacation...". Yeap, but I do not need to go to Mexico for that. As long as I do not enjoy visiting the ru...

Last Tuesday my 16-y.o.grandson staying with us for a week, decided to go to the ocean very early, and I suggested that he takes the camera with him, which he did. He went to the beach when it was still dark. And he was lucky. Just a dozen yards from the walkway, he saw a 4' Green Turtle laying eggs in the sand. This was a perfect moment. He had a camera, and turtles do not fly, so he had time to make some interesting photos. He did not take photos of her actually laying eggs, as it was still dark and he did not want to disturb her with the flash light. So, he waited until she was done with laying eggs, and took to the ocean. By that time it got light enough to make a few photos (I made them a bit ligher than it was). Green turtles traditionally come to nest on our beaches. They come at...

Ponce Inlet Real Estate. Houses, Condos and Reports by Lisa Hill, "THE SMART CHOICE!" In continuing with my series of posts about things to do in Volusia County, this post is about the fabulous Ponce Inlet Lighthouse! I've actually blogged about this amazing light house before in my post titled "Memories of Ponce Inlet Florida-The Grand Old Lighthouse". Did you know the Ponce Inlet lighthouse is the 2nd tallest lighthouse in the United States? And if you want to climb to the top, there are 194 stairs! Well, tomorrow is your opportunity to test your stair-stepping abilities. But if you can't make it tomorrow, you won't have an excuse, because you'll have another opportunity on July 18! Actually, you can go almost every day. But these days are special because you'll be able to observe th...

Real estate buyers, sellers and owners in Volusia County, if you're not familiar with the Daytona Beach area, more specifically the town of Ponce Inlet which is just south of Daytona Beach, you may find lots of interesting facts in this post and in the embedded links. I've previously posted articles about the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet, FL, and their program for rehabilitating and releasing washback green sea turtles. Other Ponce Inlet posts included how to Adopt a Sea Turtle Nest to preserve the baby sea turtles during nesting seasons. In that particular post are links to information on Florida's Vanishing Wetlands, Aquifers and Ecosystem. I've also written about my childhood memories of th...

Ponce Inlet Real Estate. Houses, Condos and Reports by Lisa Hill, "THE SMART CHOICE!" Did you know March 15 through April 15 is Florida Heritage month? I only recently found out, and I'm a 4th generation Florida native, born in Daytona Beach, just a few short miles from Ponce Inlet. There's even a FHM Commemorative Poster. Ponce Inlet Florida hosts a lot of local events, since there are so many fantastic public gathering places there. People who have bought real estate in Ponce Inlet are the biggest advocates of how wonderful it is to live there! But I digress. This post is to encourage everyone to attend Florida Heritage Day this Saturday, March 22, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the event is being held at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. Children of all ages (this includes you mom...

For post number 6 in my 2007 real estate year in review series for the Daytona Beach area, this post will cover Ponce Inlet. In east Volusia County, Ponce Inlet is the premier city and arguably the most desirable location. Even in the worst markets with the slowest sales, the values remain the highest in the area.                       Ponce Inlet Real Estate and Local Events on Lisa Hill's Real Estate Blog A few weeks ago I spent a leisurely afternoon at Ponce Inlet. I walked through the nature trails, climbed the lookout tower, spent some time on the jetty, watched the sunset, and took lots of great pictures. Ponce Inlet is an absolutely beautiful, popular place to live. It's near Daytona Beach, but not in the thick of all the tourist trappings. The local residents love living there!   On my outing that afternoon, I wanted to visit the Ponce Inlet Marine Science Center but I didn't have time then. So I'm planning an afternoon there soon and I thought I'd share some of the cool information I've gathered so far. As you may have gathered, the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet is located within...

If you're buying or selling real estate in Ponce Inlet, you'll be interested in this information. For those of you who are not familiar with Ponce Inlet Florida, let me start with a little bit of information about the city. Ponce Inlet is an exclusive, coastal town in the Daytona Beach area, but it's very different from the rest of east Volusia county for quite a few reasons. While many cities in the Daytona Beach area extend from the ocean to the mainland, Ponce Inlet is only found on the beachside/peninsula side of the Halifax River, aka Intracoastal Waterway. It's located south of the Dunlawton Bridge, past Wilbur-by-the-Sea. There are only 2 roads that go all the way to the far edge of Ponce Inlet; A1A and Peninsula Drive. There is no outlet on the south end of Ponce Inlet unless yo...

I first discovered the sleepy little fishing village of Ponce Inlet in 1980.  I was totally enamored with the lighthouse, the sand dunes and the lack of people on the beach.  Civilization had not yet reared it's ugly head in this quaint little village. Located at the end of the Daytona Beach Peninsula. It is home to a working lighthouse that many of my guests have climbed.  I usually waved to them from the ground as they huff and puff up the 265 steps.   The grounds surrounding the lighthouse contain the restored home of the original lighthouse keeper along with some other outbuildings and a gift shop. Across the street is a marina where you can watch the fishermen bring in the fresh catch of the day every afternoon. I can remember running my German Shepherd on the beach for hours and n...
