Today, the Charlotte County Commssion will meet to vote on several items on their agenda.  One of the most watched votes will be on the height restrictions currently allowed for buildings, especially buildings on our coastlines.   In Placida where I live, developers are trying to get permission to build a hotel, condo complex up to 60 FT (currently the max height is 38 FT).  There is no doubt that hotels/resorts (like Hyatt, Marriott, Ritz) are needed in this area...   When people come to look at real estate in Boca Grande, Placida, Englewood and Manasota Key where $1M listings are not-uncommon, we have to suggest they book rooms in Sarasota or Naples for the resort style hotels (Ritz or Coconut Point Hyatt) that these potential buyers are used to.  This is a shame... Below is a Google map showing where the city of Placida lies in unincorporated Charlotte County, Florida.  Placida has several residential neighborhoods and condominium complexes, a Publix grocery store, post office, bank, chinese and seafood restaurants, several marinas, fishing piers, art galleries and a private Tom Fazio designed golf course, Coral Creek Club.  Most of Placida is located on waterfront property on the mainland.  We have great deep water boating channels...
