We were out in Wall Springs Park this morning for our walk and I spotted these mangrove pods ready to drop into the water. Last month there were blossoms on the mangroves and now the pods are preparing to drop into the water to reproduce. Those pods anchor themselves into the shoreline and produce new mangrove plants. Just one more example of Mother Nature busy reproducing that I wanted to share. This is one more thing I love about living so close to our parks and waterways! Florida rocks! 07/08/2012

It is indeed an awesome 4th of July on the Pinellas Trail in Palm Harbor Florida and I have the photos to prove it! Not only is the weather fantastic, but while I was out for my 3.58 mile walk this morning, I passed to young men that made me proud to be an American! I passed these two young men twice, once as they were heading north, toward Tarpon Springs and once as I was returning home and they were heading south through Crystal Beach, back to Palm Harbor and perhaps further south. Naturally, I had to take their photo. On the trip north, the young man in khakis was carrying the flag, on the return trip his partner carried it. What an AWESOME tribute to our country, to see these two young men out on the Pinellas Trail this morning, carrying the Stars and Stripes along the way!!!! God B... 07/04/2012

While Sascha and I were doing our 6.1 mile walk through John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida last week, I spotted a beautiful butterfly and we stopped long enough to take a few photos. Man cannot compete with the beauty of Mother Nature and the Beings that exist on our planet with us. What man creates may be beautiful or unique but what we see around us on a daily basis needs to be protected. The simple joys in life are the best........a walk in the park or along the seashore, observing the beauty that surrounds us and costs nothing but does need to be protected from the thing on this planet that does the most damage.............man. John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida has over 6 miles of trails for walking and enjoying the sights on beautiful Lake Tarpon. My son, Sascha, and I were out early this morning taking a walk together and we covered 6.1 miles. Along the way I was able to take some fantastic photos of Lake Tarpon and John Chesnut Park. Convenient to the East Lake Area, John Chesnut Park is 255 acres of natural Florida beauty. The park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Tarpon, which is the largest lake in Pinellas County (5 miles long and over a mile wide). Please don't molest the alligators - that is exactly what the sign said and I had to wonder who had that bright idea! Naturally, there are gators in all of our Florida lakes. Alligators travel and while there might not be one in your lake today, that doesn't mean one won't show up tomorrow. You do NOT want to feed gators since they then associate humans with free food. If you don't have any, well YOU might become that tasty snack. But the idea of molesting a gator.............killing them is illegal unless you have a specific permit and I can't think of any other way to harm them, so HOW are you going to molest a gator??? JJ Gandy Pies and Cakes in beautiful Palm Harbor Florida created a fantastic carrot cake for my Sweetie for Father's Day! Ronnie loves carrot cake, so I stopped by my FAVORITE baker, JJ Gandy, yesterday and asked them to create this beautiful Father's Day carrot cake! JJ Gandy has the BEST key lime pies, key lime walnut loaf, key lime cookies with either orange iceing or key lime iceing (made from the actual juice of the fruit), just about any type of pie or cake you can think of, plus cookies, pasteries, Key West fish spread with Amberjack (yes, some of that came home as well) and so many other wonderful items! Wall Springs Park's lush Black Mangroves are indeed in full bloom here in beautiful Palm Harbor Florida. The red mangroves are the ones that grow with their feet, called prop roots, totally in the salt water of the inlets and bayous. Those prop roots have given the red mangrove the nickname of 'walking tree' (photo below). In addition to the red mangrove, we have the black mangroves. They are the ones that line the shore with what look like fingers reaching up out of the soil. They do not grow with the long legs of the water-loving red mangroves and right now they are in full bloom (top photo and photo below)! Further from the shore, at the highest elevations, you find our white mangroves. These are the only 3 varieties of mangrove that grow here in the Sunshine State. It is illegal to ... 06/15/2012

Big Brother was indeed watching the Parrot Head Festival in Old Downtown Palm Harbor Florida on Saturday and that was a good thing. In the background, you see a large 'box' in the air......that is the Pinellas County Sherrif's Department lookout station watching over the festival. Our technology certainly has come a long way in the last fifty years! The festival was, by the way, a big success. I managed to stop by for a few minutes between clients. It was blue skies, sunshine and temperatures up in the high 80's. Live entertainment had not started yet while I was there but the crowds had started to form and there was everything from bungee-cord jumping to rock climbing (tower in the background for the rock climbing).
