Melbourne Beach When Ponce de Leon landed near Melbourne Beach in 1513, he became the first European to set foot in Florida. Melbourne Beach is Brevard County's oldest beach community. It was established in 1883 by a retired Union general. Pineapples were grown there until 1895, when freezing weather wiped out crops and ended commercial farming there. In 1921, the Melbourne Causeway was built, connecting Melbourne beach to the mainland via the town of Indialantic. In 1923 it was incorporated as a town. Today we headed to Spessard Holland Beach in Melbourne Beach to enjoy a couple hours in the sun. My husband wanted to go fishing,  We left the surfboards at home.  We actually should have left the fishing poles at home and brought the boards instead, but we didn't. The surfing was great today. It was a perfect day. Not too hot, The wind was cool. This guy was funny, because everytime we turned around he was trying to steal our bait out of our bait bucket.   He kept walking up and down the beach trying to steal people's newly caught fish.  He seemed to be eating pretty well today. Unfortunately, we didn't catch any fish today. Some days when we go fishing on Melbourne Beach Florida we catch nothing.  We sit without even the slightest nibble on the line.  Our bait always seems to disappear, though.   Other days are great! We try to get to the beach early, so that the tide is still low and the fish are biting.   On this day we were fortunate and caught 13 whiting.  Bailey would have loved to help eat them! A couple of days ago I was working outside of the office, showing homes to out of town buyers. It was their first time to the area.  We had about 7 houses on the list to look at that day.  I really wanted to be sure to show them around so they could get an overall feeling of the beautiful area in Melbourne Beach Florida that we live in. Before I left my office I programmed my GPS for the 7 houses that we were planning to view that day.  They were all within about 5-7 miles of each other.  Now, anyone showing houses knows that a hundred things can happen between you and those 7 houses you want to look at...we don't and can't always show them in the order we anticipated at the beginning of the day.  There are so many other things that can grab the buyer's attention first. We are seeing some beautiful Fall weather here in Brevard County Florida. The gentle breezes are blowing and their is little humidity in the area. But the wind is wreaking havoc with the Atlantic Ocean.  Surfers love it!  The waves have been larger than normal.  It is not the time to be swimming, still, there are those die hard beach enthusiasts that can't get enough of our beautfiul coastline here in Melbourne Beach Florida. This is the time to be reminded of how dangerous the rip currents can be out in the ocean.  A rip current can pull you under, and most people typically panic when they get caught in one. Panicing can drown you!  It is important to remember, should you get caught in a rip current, don't fight the current, allow it to pull you along.  Swim parallel to the shoreline. ... 10/21/2008
