The City of Melbourne Beach, FL has a main drag along Ocean Ave from Riverside Dr (The Melbourne Beach Pier) to A1A and the Atlantic Ocean. Along this stretch of road exist quite a few restaurants, bars and dives. Djon's Steak & Lobster House is a high end steak and seafood restaurant situated by the Pier and with some nice views of the Indian River. Melbourne Beach, FL has a few very nice oceanfront parks, and Coconut Point Park is one of my favorites. Let me give you the reasons I drive about eight miles south of my home to come here: 1. Hardly anyone is ever on this beautiful stretch of beach ( see photo). 2. Private covered picnic area...my boy and I love coming here. 3. Clean bathrooms 4. Outside showers to get the sand off. 5. Tons of parking. 6. Breathtaking sunrise views. I needed some time to think and formulate a plan of attack for 2013....I drove down, brought my lunch and was alone with my thoughts...and the beach for over an hour and a half....pure heaven on earth. 10/03/2012

 Ocean Ave in Melbourne Beach, FL is one of my favorite streets on the Space Coast! It is loaded with shops, businesses, a beautiful public library as well as a bunch of restaurants and bars. If you find yourself on Ocean Ave in the morning or afternoon...make sure to try Friendly Toast Cafe. Friendly Toast Cafe offers a full range of breakfast offering including eggs any way you like the, French toast, and great bacon (yum)...but I come for the best pancakes on the coast...they are awesome! The lunch items are also extensive (with daily specials) and very reasonable prices. The Tuna Melt pictured below with about 1/2 lb of tuna, huge portion of chips ($1 more for fries) and a pickle will set you back $5.95...a great value! My boy and I decided to take a ride down to the Barrier Island Sanctuary today because of the absolute beautiful Central Florida beach day we are having. He goes back to school soon (in Colorado)...so I let him pick a special treat...and he chose the Sanctuary because of the Sea Turtle exhibits. The Barrier Island Sanctuary is located in South Melbourne Beach...just a few miles north of the Indian River County / Brevard County, FL border. Coming from either area it is well worth the trip.
