Ocean 302  is a wonderful beachside restaurant that is owned by the same fine folks that run my favorite food store, Melbourne Beach Supermarket.  In fact, both venues are located in the same strip mall on Ocean Ave in Melbourne Beach. Ocean 302  is a wonderful breath of fresh air!Given that we live in a small community, it has been my opinion that there is a real lack of great restaurants other than Italian. OK, I can just come out and say it. I love the Melbourne Beach Supermarket. I am a cook, and I make a lot of different types of food. I am known in my office for my homemade hummus. In fact I make all different types of Middle Eastern food having grown up there when my dad was in the oil biz.Many people do not know that the trick to making great hummus is using enough tahini. I like Ziyad brand tahini, and I can find it at the Melbourne Beach Supermarket. I cannot find foul (fava) beans anywhere else in this entire county, but I can find them at the Melbourne Beach Supermarket.  Traditional, authentic middle eastern style pita bread cannot be found in supermarkets like Winn Dixie or Publix. A dear friend of mine was visiting recently from Denver, and we decided to spend the afternoon listening to live music down in Melbourne Beach. On the drive back up, I noticed something in the road. I positioned my SUV to straddle the object, driving over it. As I drove by, I immediately recognized the object as a turtle. I immediately slammed on by brakes and backed up. I got out of my vehicle and waved the oncoming traffic around the turtle. It was a Gopher Tortoise which is the state tortoise of Florida...they are also an endangered species. It was an adult tortoise, I believe a male, with a carapace of over 10 inches in length. My heart broke when I saw that he had been run over by a car.
