The Groove Oceanfront Concert Series is back at the Crowne Plaza on A1A in Indialantic, FL 2012 marks the seventh year of Jazz on the beach at the Crowne Plaza...and it is one of the Space Coast's favorite nights out! The jazz concert series is every Wednesday night from 5:30 to 8:30 (with the live music starting at 6pm). The music is help rain or shine (if it is raining they move it indoors to the banquet rooms). The Crowne Plaza is located on Hwy A1A...directly on the Atlantic Ocean...between Rt. 192 and Eau Gallie Blvd in Indialantic Florida. I love to write restaurant reviews...it allows me to check out all the different restaurants in the area (and since this is a business blog I get to write off the expense on my taxes!!!). Even though I visit many restaurants throughout the County I must admit there are a few that I come back to time and time again...Petrillo's in Indialantic is one of those. To start with...and for those from the Northeast...Petrillo's is owned by the Petrillo Family from New York (originally Mom and Dad but now passed down to their son) and you can feel that New York influence on the offerings on the extensive Italian menu items they offer. If you ever travel down Eau Gallie Blvd to the beach...you know that at the very end of Eau Gallie you will run directly into Canova Beach Park right on the Indian Harbour Beach / Indialantic border. The park itself has a nice array of family style amenities like outside showers, indoor bathroom facilities, beach access and an ample free parking lot. Add to the family offerings a spot on the beach for your dog! That's right...Canova Beach Park is now the first dog friendly park in Brevard County. Dogs have been banned from the beach for many years so this is a nice development for those looking to bring man's best friend down to take a dip in the ocean! In the South Brevard Beach area we have quite a few really nice townhome complexes that are within close proximity to the beach....but few have as much to offer potential buyers the Townhomes of Paradise Park in Indialantic! We live in a warm weather climate here on the Space Coast. This tends to allow good ice cream shops to thrive...and they usually do. In Indialantic a long time institution has been Moo's Soft Serve on A1A (between the 5th Ave and Eau Gallie). This place will make you feel like you just hopped off a time machine and landed in 1970. Moo's serves good to great soft serve ice cream (real ice cream...nothing fake about this place)...low fat and sugar free versions...and some food items as well (they always have a special...4 Coney hot dogs for $6...not a misprint!) including some really good sliders....but the draw is the soft serve ice cream...it is the best on the beach! They have a drive-thru window so you can keep the a/c on in the car when it is 95 degrees...as well as a walk up window... 02/11/2012

For some reason...regardless of the Coast you are on...if you are in an area that is big on surfing...and the Brevard County beaches are definitely a surfers Paradise...you will find good to great burrito joints. Big Island Burritos in Indialantic, FL is a burrito/surfer joint directly across the street from the Atlantic ocean. From the first time you enter you will understand this is a place a part time surfer can get his needed fix. The TV's will have highlights of great surfing exploits to help you digest the burritos that are as big as your head. The prices are amazing...with Burritos running from $5.50 to 7.00...tax included! Many people who visit the Space Coast do so for a variety of reasons...maybe they want to see a rocket launch....some come for our great weather...the beach calls many here...surfing is a big draw...and of course Brevard County is a great place to see a manatee or sea turtles. When it comes to viewing sea turtles you might not find a better place to start then James H. Nance Park in Indialantic, FL. The park is loaded with amenities...from the beach of course to a beach volleyball stadium with seating for fans to a children's playground and of course showers and bathroom facilities. Lou's Blues in Indialantic, FL is very unique to the Space Coast. It is a place that attracts all age groups (you will see 20 somethings mixing with 60 somethings)...has little to do with its name (honestly, I have been to the place many times and have only heard one group I would qualify as a blues band)...gets truly packed out almost every night...yet seems to have the most remarkable service you will find. Trying to explain this very eclectic night spot is not easy...but here I go: 1. Two levels of fun...downstairs (especially on weekends) will be a dance party for all ages with a long bar and large dance floor. 2. I must admit...I am a bit of a health food junkie. This does not mean that I will not eat chicken wings or burgers...every once in a while you just gotta do it :) ...but most nights you will find me eating healthy meals that (gasp) I prepare myself. I wish we had more places that carried healthy options...including our grocery stores that have a limited supply of organic fresh vegetables and meats. Beachside Produce in Indialantic is one of my go to places to get fresh fruit, vegetables and more. They carry very reasonably priced chicken...they have a large selection of special nuts, grains and spices...all offered in a quick, easy and friendly manor. In the south Brevard beach area we have quite a few townhome and condo communities. Some of them offer a wide array of amenities (like pools, tennis courts, exercise facilities, clubhouses and more). Some offer a very limited package that will usually include common area landscaping and maintenance...Burns Village fits with those communities that offer a small package of amenities...along with very low HOA (Home Owner Association) fees ($65 a month). Burns Village has a wonderful Indian Harbour Beach location (just north of Eau Gallie Blvd..half way between the bridge and the beach) near shopping, restaurants, the beach, the river and Gleason Park. I have been coming to Bunky's for quite some time...in fact I have been to all three South Brevard beach incarnations of the place (the first two locations were in Satellite Beach...and the last move just south to Indialantic happened a few years ago). Bunky's is a place that is built for fun...nothing fancy...a huge bar area that seems to rarely have an open seat available and a large dining room with plenty of large TV's to watch big games while you eat and or drink the day away. The food here is quite good...raw bar selections...great wings made to order...burgers, sandwiches,salads and plenty of seafood selections. We have quite a few very nice condo buildings from the Pineda Causeway in Satellite Beach...all the way down to south Melbourne Beach...the Villager Condo in Indialantic is a great example of area beachfront condo living. The apartments in the Villager are between 1200 and 1500 sqft 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. About 3/4 of the apartments have full to partial ocean view. The building was built in 1975 so you will find different levels of upgrade in every condo you see here (some have been fully re-done...while others have never had any upgrades at all). What sets the Villager apart from many of the other buildings along the beach is the great Indialantic location. OK...full disclosure...I lived in South Florida in the early 80's and ventured down to Miami for college. On most afternoons I would stop by one of the many hole in the wall (literally...they would be a hole in the wall with a picnic table or two in front) Cuban restaurants that would serve amazing food, Cuban coffee and flan for dessert...all for ridiculously low prices. Cuban food soon became one of my favorite ethnic foods and remains that way till this day. One of the issues with Cuban food is that for some unknown reason it has not caught on like say Mexican food has. Of course in Miami you can find a restaurant on almost every corner...but as you venture north even in the State of Florida you will have few options. Holy Name of Jesus in Indialantic will be hosting their annual Fall Festival this weekend. There will be lots of different kinds of food: barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, funnel cake, french fries, snow cones, cotton candy and my favorite, funnel cake. Indialantic, FL is a very interesting community. The first thing you need to know about the area before moving here is that it has two very distinct parts...one...Indialantic by the Sea is really Indialantic proper...that is the City. The other area in really part of the County of Brevard and not part of the City. The folks who live in the City of Indialantic by the Sea will be happy to point out the boundaries to you...lol In the City the place to live near...especially if you have children (keep in mind all the schools that feed Indialantic are "A-rated" so families always put the area on their shopping list) is Orlando Park.
