Who Should Get a Reverse Mortgage and "Why?" I find clients often worry about their heirs whenever they decide to move forward with a reverse mortgage, either because they wished to leave their home to their children or grandchildren or hoped that their children will be able to sell the home upon their passing and have enough to tie them over for a years.  I tell them that while that's honorable, even selfless, it's crucial that they retain a certain quality of life in their retirement. "Outside of Your Comfort Zone is Where the Magic Happens…" No truer words have ever been said. I don't know if it's a personality thing or just a more "comfortable" way of doing things but comfort zones are both great and  destructive. There's nothing wrong with being comfortable. In the end, we are all creatures of habit but there is a line when being comfortable (at the moment) becomes "too comfortable." One of the problems with being "too comfortable" is that we become stuck in our ways. Committed, for better or worse, to the same routine every day. There are only so many ways we can do the same thing, and if we find that, at the end of any given year, what we thought we would have or accomplish has not yet been reached, then it's time to adjust our techniques and skills accordingly....

It's Important to Adjust Expectations... No Matter the Situation The retirement expectations of middle income Americans are changing. The preconceived notion that Social Security and Pension funds will be enough to sustain a comfortable retirement is falling by the wayside. "Right-sizing" with a Reverse Purchase The new, consolidated reverse mortgage program still has a ways to go before it can become what the FHA hoped it would when the changes were implemented. However, this doesn’t mean that the effort to educate the reverse mortgage industry, and the public, will be anything less than stellar.
