The third annual Super Boat Grand Prix was held in Cocoa Beach, Fl, on Sunday May 20, 2012. Thousands of spectators lined the beaches for the free show but many opted for the complete VIP pass for around $100. It was party time from Thursday on and the racers were accessible for meet and greets. The boats were on display before the big race for photo ops and live bands were everywhere. Once the seller and buyer agree on price and terms, it's not smooth sailing. First, the inspections need to come back acceptable. After that hurdle is the appraisal. When the buyer is getting a mortgage their lender sends out a neutral third party appraiser. The appraiser determines the value of the property for lending purposes. The buyer cannot get a loan for more than the appraised value. So, what if the appraisal come in lower than the offer?  Horseshoe buddies Frank, Boston and Steve all celebrated their birthdays Sat. Dec. 3rd at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach. We played horseshoes all afternoon and then listened to a great band called "Redneck Joe". Life is good! Birthday Boy Frank with Redneck Joe.    Redneck Joe (formerly Troublesome Creek) opened for Ronnie Hawkins years ago and is still going strong today.   The Dave Kury Band played at Friday Fest in Cape Canaveral. Jellyfish are turning up all along Brevard County Beaches these days.  Over 150 beachgoers were stung yesterday by these beautiful looking creatures. A jellyfish can sting you in the water or on the beach.  Even the dead ones are capable of a nasty, itchy sting.  Vinegar seems to be the best remedy should you tangle with one of these guys.  Check with lifeguards, as they have been keeping plenty on hand. Watch out as these guys burrow themselves in the sand. These tandem surfers are awesome! It's hard enough to surf solo but try holding 100 plus pounds over your head with one hand while balancing on a moving board. This 26th Annual Festival supports the National Kidney Foundation and is the place to be on Labor Day Week End in Cocoa Beach. Running from Sept. 1 through 5 this year, the Pro-Am Event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity and given both young and seasoned surfers a chance to shine in the spotlight. In addition to the surf contest there will be music, food, karate demonstrations and a bikini contest.  Sunday night there will be the Taste of Brevard at the Doubletree Resort.  There will be a music, entertainment, a silent auction.  Awards will be presented to the best surfers for the contest. Newsflash: Holiday has been found and returned to owners Tom and Cathy. He was only a few blocks away and a lady who saw my Craig's List Ad knew where he lived. The naughty bird is now back in his cage and will have his wings clipped next week. "Holiday" the Macaw gives us quite a show on top of his cage. His wings are not clipped and he sometimes flies into the palm trees to escape aggressive feral cats but he can take care of himself. They give him his space for the most part. This is the new sign put up by the Sandbar Sports Grill and The Cocoa Beach Surf Company. Hey - all you have to do (so far) is buy a beer and you can park free. Plus your car doesn't become part of an artificial reef! :-) I used to play music at this bar on week ends as "Surfside Johnny".
