Cocoa Beach's "Glass Bank" was an architechtural delight and in it's prime was home to “Ramon’s Rainbow Room”, a restaurant and nightclub which regularly hosted national politicians, astronauts and Hollywood stars and was known for it’s great tasting food and atmosphere. Considered by many to be a Cocoa Beach landmark, The First Federal Savings and Loan Building was constructed in 1961, giving the city’s skyline a modern look for the time. Frank Wolfe, a high-profile retired attorney, was found dead in Feb. 2014 outside the building he fought in court to keep open even though it was crumbling around him. The city had approved demolition of the Glass Bank Building earlier after Wolfe exhausted his legal avenues and amassed over one million in fines. It was ruled that he shot himself. Wol...

Dear Santa: All I Want for Christmas is a Beach Shack (with a satellite dish). I don't ask for much Santa but I've been good (for the most part) and that lump of coal you gave me last year didn't heat the house for too long. If I can't have the beach shack, at least let me sell one to a frozen northerner so I can buy new sandals and BBQ some shrimp for the Bikini Brigade on the big day. Yours truly, Surfside Johnny. The Cocoa Beach Christmas Boat Parade is a wonderful event for Holiday fun. Every year decorated boats cruise down the Banana River for the residents of Cocoa Beach and Snowbirds  to enjoy from their homes, condos and favorite restaurants. This year it will be held on Sat. Dec. 13th and start by 6 pm at the Sunset Grill. Donna and I will be there with friends for a bite to eat and some drinks. Look for more photos that I will post after the event. Thanksgiving spread at Donna's. We'll have lots of leftovers! In the past, we have both cooked for an army of friends and family but this year it was just the two of us. Everyone is so spread out now and my family is in Canada. My Mom and Dad and many of their friends have passed away several years ago. I am just thankful we have our health, a roof over our head and a bounty of wonderful food. My home made sausage and apple stuffing. A man's fly by the seat of your pants recipe: A bag of Publix bread cubes, 6 cups chicken broth, 1 pound sage sausage, 2 apples, one large onion, spices and fresh basel from the garden. Saute , throw everything in a bowl, mix it up while drinking a beer, dump it all in a baking dish and cook for 30 minutes at 350*. Sit, relax and have another beer while fli...

There’s a chill in the air on Cocoa Beach...warm up with Chili     Cooler weather is coming to Cocoa Beach this weekend so it’s time to warm up with some comfort food!   With lows in the 40’s tomorrow night and highs around 60* a bowl of homemade chili can’t be beat. We like to cook a big batch so we can have it for dinner one night with crackers then use the leftovers for chili dogs the next night.                                                                Another great choice is homemade soup...onion soup, chicken noodle soup, vegetable or minestrone are all favorites at our house when the cooler weather arrives. A loaf of bread fresh from the bakery adds a special touch to your meal.       If you like to work smarter, not harder, make a double batch of both chili and soup and fre...

It’s the Cocoa Beach cool down!     Fall has arrived in Cocoa Beach, Florida!   Today was a beautiful day along Florida’s Space Coast. The high temperature in Cocoa Beach was 79* with perfect weather...sunny with low(er) humidity and a nice breeze.   But a different forecast is predicted for the weekend due to an approaching cold front. Cocoa Beach is expecting a low around 50* tonight with a high tomorrow of only around 65*, a drop of about 15* from today.   The forecast for Saturday night calls for lows in the 40’s on the mainland and in central Florida with slightly warmer temperatures on Cocoa Beach and the barrier islands.   As usual, our cold weather will last about three days with highs around 80* by next Tuesday. For locals, it is a welcome break after the long, hot summer and h...

I hesitate to post local "drama" to Active Rain but I feel that my clients need to know where to stay away from, especially if they are new to the area. My group used to play horseshoes there before the husband and wife who leased the business locked horns and hired lawyers. It has gone downhill ever since and even violent thanks to the psycho wife who has decided that I am evil because I sided with the husband along with all the rest of the horseshoe players. We took our business elsewhere. If anyone wants to know where all the "good places" are just ask me. This is a wonderful area with lots of things to do and great establishments to have dinner, entertainment and a Corona.   Jump's Tiny Tavern, 201 Taft Ave., Cocoa Beach, Fl. (321) 784-7893     Contact me to learn how you can start ...

My latest sale Pete has become a friend! It took a long time for him to pull the trigger but now he's really enjoying the Cocoa Beach lifestyle. We went to the Sunset Waterfront Cafe & Bar on Thursday for some Amberbochs, Stellas, shrimp and scallops. Paul Chrisotpher was entertaining and was gracious enough to let me play "Old Man" by Neil Young to open a set. Judging from the crowd reaction, I'm pretty sure I nailed it! :-) All I can say is that happiness and lifestyle can't be measured by the amount of money or toys we have. Just take a look at the people right here in the USA who are on anti-depressants. Step back and take the time to smell the roses!  I am posting this with a heavy heart after learning that my friend and fellow musician found out he has cancer. Justin is always smiling, playing guitar, talking with his many buddies and having a good time. He was with the unit that searched for Saddam when they finally pulled him out of his hole and made it back home in one piece. Justin loves "killing it" on his guitar and I know he's tough enough to beat this. I hope with the recent uproar about VA neglect, he receives the treatment he needs as soon as posible. When you read about the burning of toxic waste in war zones, you can't help but wonder if that contributed in any way. The complaints about road blocks to closings, personal annoyances and computer glitches that I had yesterday, have now taken on a new perspective. Get well ...

The JDRF Walk for Diabetes in Cocoa Beach was a Huge Success! A lot of money was raised for research and the turnout was excellent. A lot of local businesses provided many items including t-shirts, tote bags, food, water and support. We started out in Lori Wilson Park and walked along the beach on a beautiful day....all for a good cause!   My Girlfriend Donna posing with the KSC Federal Credit Union mascot.     I walked with this group from the Credit Union. The photo only shows about half of their participants.    Heading to the beach.   Contact me to learn how you can start enjoying the good life here in Brevard County on the Space Coast. Dan has lived in his ocean front Cocoa Beach house with his wife for a long, long time. He has been offered luxury condos, cash and many incentives to sell his property to developers. You couldn't blast him out of there with a ton of explosives. He is a much loved regular at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach, Florida and shows up for every horseshoe tournament, although he doesn't play anymore. Keep on truckin' on Dan! You Da Man! I will be walking to raise money for diabetes on Apr., 5, 2014. Susan and Chris won the Jump's Tiny Tavern Horseshoe Tournament on Sat. beating stiff competition. We're talking a lot of ringers here! Congrats!!! Iraqi war hero Justin at the bar after the tournament. We have a lot of VETS in this area that deserve our thanks. He plays a mean guitar and his story will be coming soon. He was in country when Saddam was pulled out of his rat hole. Contact me to learn how you can start enjoying the good life here in Brevard County on the Space Coast. Barcelona Tapas Bar is Cocoa Beach’s Newest Restaurant If you like Mediterranean food, check out Barcelona Tapas Bar on Cocoa Beach.   The soft opening was an invitation only private party last night and the Grand Opening was today from 3-11pm. The menu is extensive and includes soups, salads, paella, fish and kebabs, to name just a few items. They offer a good selection of wine and beer but, as their name indicates, the house special is their tapas. Prices are reasonable and there is a limited children’s menu. For more information, visit their website www.barcelontapas.us or call 321.613.5637.

Paco and I came in 3rd at the Jump's Tiny Tavern Sat. horseshoe tournament after winning 3 in a row but we fell short against the 2 teams that ended up in the final. I threw 4 six packs (back to back ringers) and Paco played great. There's always next week and more things to do and see in Cocoa Beach! Bring your camera.
