History of The Rotary Foundation  Around 1916, at the RI Convention, it was believed that Rotary had $26.50 left over after paying for the convention, and then RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed that an endowment be set up “to do good in the world.   In 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to more than $5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation and became a distinct entity within Rotary International.
