It happens every year at this time, the Bellefonte Arts Festival in "Funny, funky little Bellefonte Delaware." I was just down on Brandywine Boulevard and could see the merchants getting ready and putting out signs. But the big change will be this Saturday, May 20, 2017, when they close off the Boulevard and merchants with all kinds of goods, plus food wagons will be tempting you with their wares.Of course, all the regulars will be open--from Bellefonte Vintage to Bellefonte Arts and JPT Chair Caning, Etc., to Eclectica and the Bellefonte Cafe. And what kind of homes are for sale here?  Look at the homes for sale in Bellefonte and adjacent Gordon Heights and let me know if anything interests you.Information presented by Carolyn Roland, Your Older and Historic Homes Resource.

Saturday was a fun time to wander over to Brandywine Blvd. in Bellefonte, Delaware and check out Blocktoberfest. The antiques, collectibles, what- nots, art, and artful clothing and jewelry were on display at shops such at Bellefonte Vintage, Bellefonte Arts and Eclectica.  Something new to me, Kapow Food Truck was there and I tried their vegetarian spring rolls with special sauce on the side. Wow! Piping hot and delicious. Definitely a truck to keep track of, plus you can always find them at the nearby Boothwyn PA Booth's Corner Farmers Market every Friday and Saturday.  And of course, make an appointment to see The Chambers Mansion, 3 blocks away at the corner of Brandywine Blvd. and Lore Ave., a neighborhood standout Queen Anne Victorian Mansion now for sale with Carolyn Roland, Your...

I visited JPT Chair Caning, Etc. on Brandywine Blvd. last week during the First Friday art events in Wilmington and Bellefonte. Fascinating place!   Paula Thomas and Jackie Palmer are the owners, and I got a little explanation of her work from Paula, who has been in the business 13 years. When she started taking classes to learn how to create these intricately woven chair seats, it seems that by the end of the series of classes, she was always the lone remaining student. So you can see how determined she is!     What looks like the simplest method is the pressed cane, which comes by the roll. But it turns out to be the hardest kind to do, since the old seat must first be removed without damaging the chair. It is held in place with a spline, sort of like a screen on a window. But some s...

Driving down south Brandywine Boulevard in Bellefonte, Delaware,  you pass the firehouse on your right, and just as you get to the corner of Marion Ave. at the traffic light, you will see Michael’s Barber shop, with the familiar candy striped pole. But those in the know will walk behind the barber shop to see the mural by Bellefonte artist Nicole Kristiana Logan, who took a week's vacation from her job to paint the mural. Her Delaware theme includes peach and holly trees, a squirrel, cat and rabbit,  swallowtail butterfies, and a sparkling fountain (which the artist hopes will inspire someone to contribute to the town). Stop by on a summer Saturday morning, and you will find the Bellefonte Farmer's Market going strong just to the north of the barber shop.

Open 9-1 weekly until the end of September, the market features organic veggies from Highland Orchards and the CSA at Thornbury Farm in nearby Chester County.  A local bakery and mushroom grower, as well as a restaurant also had tables.
