Last Thursday night in DC - it was cold, rainy and cold...brr. Not the type of night that you find lots of DC folks out and about. But I went to an event which was PACKED!  At a retail store no less - and NOT for a sale, either!  The Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams furntiure store on 14th street had an event with Domino magazine - promoting a recently published book on decorating.  The pull was the first 50 people were to receive the book for free - and have it signed by one of the authors.  The event started at 5:30 and let me tell you, the place was brimming with people. I arrived at 5:20 and stood in line to get the book, only to miss it by three people.  But it didn't stop there - people kept flowing in and by 6:00 there were people everywhere. I am sure there were at least 150 peopl...

Estimates suggest that the Washington, D.C. area will be flooded with more than four million visitors for the January 20th inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama. And yet the number of hotel rooms sits at just 80,000, with many already sold out. That's why Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. has set up a special site (www.january20.us) to help you find appropriate lodging for the night, weekend, or week of the inauguration. Whether you plan to attend the parade, a ball, the swearing-in ceremony, or any other inaugural festivity, you can do so from the comfort of a well-appointed rental with easy access to the center of activity. Last week, I had several conversations with New York Times writer Julie Bosman, and I just found the article, Location! Location! ...Obama! on their web site.  (You may have to do their free registration thing to read it.)  I'm not in there until Page 2, but I did get the last word! Talking to reporters is fun.  I totally enjoy it.  Sometimes it can be a little scary because you don't know which of your inane statements they will quote, or which brilliant words of wisdom they will leave out - after all it's the reporter's story.  But the Times usually get it right. Anyway, it's a pretty fun read!Subscribe in a reader

To get from my house to almost anywhere in town, I have to hop in my car and drive through the winding roads through Rock Creek Park to reach my destination. The park has a beautiful roadway for cars, and miles of trails for hikers, bikers and horses.  Now the hikers and horses are pretty happy with this arrangement.  But the bikers are riding, not on the gorgeous bike trails, but on the roadway, sometimes two or three abreast (so the cars can't pass them). Today, I was driving from my house to an appointment in Georgetown.  Then there was this backup on Beach Drive - two freakin' cyclists riding side by side on the roadway. And they were holding up a bunch of high priced men and women. Little Miss Type-A here felt some blood pressure action and was a little ticked off.  But some of the...

This is an oh-so fantastic time for first-time home buyers who were priced out of the market and bidding frenzies of 2-3 years ago to buy their stake in the American Dream. With a knowledgeable, patient and informative agent at your side, to guide and educate you about all stages of the home-buying process, this is the time to take a deep breath and start planning to make your move.   First-time home buyers may also be wondering how their agent gets paid. With the passage of "Buyer Agency" regulations over 10 years ago in most jurisdictions, the law allows an agent to fully represent the interests of their buyer client, upon the signing of a buyer-agency agreement - even though the seller is paying all the commissions! Now how is that for a good deal! Your agent's duty is to you, and th...
