Cultivating shiitake mushroomsThere are some incredible summer garden workshops being offered by the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation (see a full list here). In addition to the shiitake mushroom session, you’ll find classes on spoon carving, vertical gardening, how to make cider, and growing rice and quinoa in D.C. There are more than 100 free classes to choose from this year (up from 70 last year). Most classes can fit up to 40 people, but put your name on the waiting list even if a class appears full.
