The Colors Are Getting Plentiful In Prospect CTWe always have something flowering in our yards from early spring to late fall. It does take work and I don't know all that there is in the yard yet and we have been here over 26 years.  The builders wife loved colors and she made sure her husband gave her colors. The lower rock garden is starting to show the flox colors with a tiara of daffodils.  Soon I will plant either impatiens or begonias to keep color over the summer.  Right that are a row of rhododendrons with the first and last being an early blooming variety. The early blossoms are white and the later ones are pink. Along the driveway retainer wall are tulips and hyacinths. The tulips are coming to their end and along the wall are astilbes and they will bloom in a few more weeks.T...

A Feeder For Two PleaseThis past week as I was looking out the window I saw a very large female cardinal picking at seeds in the feeder. I saw a bit of movement from the other side and went to a different window to get a peek. Could it just be that papa knows to give space to an irritable mother to be and decided to just stay out of the way?A Feeder For Two Please

Car Shows Are Back In Connecticut This YearMissing last year due to the pandemic were the antique and specialty car shows that so many attended almost every weekend from May thru October, weather permitting.Well they're back and maybe even the 'Cruise' Nights as well. So many people stop and stare when an older car makes its way down the street. Owners pay special detail to their cars and are wary of people that look and try and touch.  Those shiny hunks of metal have hours of care and attention to keep them that way and fingerprints are not appreciate. The established car shows are well known and for car owners who have gone to them in the past, they are appreciated for the attention the judges offer while running down a row of cars. The trophies awarded at the end of the shows have pl...

Fulton Park, Waterbury CT A Special Place For AllLocated 90 miles from another famous recreational venue is the largest municipal park in the Greater Waterbury CT area. Fulton park has the distinction of also being designed  by the Olmsted Brothers, the successor landscape architecture firm to Frederick Law Olmsted, renowned designer of New York City’s Central Park and recognized as “Father of American Landscape architecture.”  In the early 1900's Waterbury was a center for brass manufacturing as well as the feeders businesses that were necessary to keep them running. It was known as the Brass Capital of the World and kept that distinction until the use of plastics and aluminum replaced many of the former brass products. One of those industrialists, William Fulton, acquired land around ...

Which Came First, The Chicken or The Egg?This is a question that has been asked over and over again and has raised controversy repeatedly. In the current real estate climate, sellers must decide which path to follow first:Be a seller and place the house on the market, or Find the new House and then sell the current one? The volume of quality listings is so low, there is little chance that a new listing hitting the market will wait very long before a queue of buyers are lined up to view and place their offer. That same zeal for a home will be the reality of the seller. If they are relocating away from their current home and have already gotten some security with housing, then it is an easy decision to make.If they are staying in the immediate area and have done some homework they know it...

Spring Is Making It's Presence Known In Prospect CTAs we looked out to our front yard this morning, we were very happy to see that the flowers are making their appearance known.  We have a larger area with a lot of annuals, and the first to appear are the crocus, followed by hyacinths, daffodils and tulips.  It's still early for the tulips, but the daffodils are shining brightly.    Over the next few weeks, the rest of them will spout and along will come the azaleas and the day lilies.  We will be into a wonderful spring and the chill of winter will be forgotten.Spring Is Making It's Presence Known In Prospect CT

Hotchkiss Field, Prospect CT, Offering Recreation for All SeasonsLocated at the intersection of Waterbury Rd and Scott Rd, just before the center of Prospect on Waterbury Rd is Hotchkiss Field. This town managed recreation area was a gift of the Hotchkiss family, who donated a portion of their farm for the 'Public Good.'  At all hours of the day, one can find people taking walks or jogging around the oval track. You can see older couples taking their casual walks; younger couples pushing high wheeled carriages as the 'family' gets its fresh air and exercise.  The tracks circle the athletic fields and are set up with a full mile oval with intersecting paths for those that are less ambitious.  Just off the main entrance and parking lot are the basketball courts, where there is always some...
