Hoping 2025 Brings Health, Prosperity and HappinessThe first day of each new year brings much hope and many a resolution. By the second week of the new year the majority of the resolutions have been forgotten. One can only hope that the hope remains and as all proceed into the year the sprit thrives, and success is achieved. It has been an interesting year in our house, but we will look to go into the New Year in a positive and see what happens. So, my wish for you is continued prosperity into the New Year and health and happiness for you and your families.Hoping 2025 Brings Health, Prosperity and Happiness

Friday Flags: A Naugatuck CT Flutter to Make one SmileComing from an appointment in Naugatuck CT this past week, I was happy to see a flutter along a park that made me stop.It is a hectic time of year, and so many are rushing, and it does matter when we get to appreciate the simple things. It was enough of a breeze to get the flag to move, and I felt that with a little patience, it might just get full wave.I was rewarded and although it may not have been a full blow, it was enough to set the end of year post properly. It is always a beautiful sight and maybe a promise of a good year to come. Friday Flags: A Naugatuck CT Flutter to Make one Smile

Thankful for The Ones That are Always There Today is a day to give thanks for the blessings that we have been fortunate to have worked for.We all enjoy the company of our family and the extended ones as well.I am very appreciative of the support my family has given me in my trying times. And there are those people that have touched us and we know that whenever we really needed assistance, they were there, no questions asked.I have been fortunate to have had that type of person in my life. I would also like to believe that when called, I was also that type of person.Life is easier when we know we have helped and also appreciated the help.Enjoy the day.    Thankful for The Ones That are Always There

Thankful That I was WatchingReal estate is a business that requires knowledge, caring and the ability to respond quickly. It is not about just opening a door, waiting for a buyer to look through a house and then wondering if this is the one they want to buy. Or at least that is my belief. When the market favors buyers, it becomes necessary to try and make sure that what they are seeing has the potential of offering the shelter and comforts they seek and not become a money pit, unless of course they are seeking a fixer upper. As a youngster, we were often with our father when he was doing a side job to help someone he knew and also make a few extra dollars. He had only 2 years of high school in Portugal and as this was in the early 1930's, it was necessary for all to work the land to surv...

Friday Flags: Official Opening of The Mountain Grill Waterbury CTSaturday morning was a big day at the East Mountain Golf course as it was the official opening of the remodeled club house and the formal introduction to the general public of the Mountain Grill. As we were walking down the 17th fairway, we could hear bagpipes playing songs nearby. Then, as we were approaching the green on the 18th fairway there was a crowd assembled behind the green. For the way we had played that morning, we knew it wasn't for us.After 2 years and a cost of over $2.5 million the grand unveiling. Just prior to the speeches, the bagpipes started, and the Waterbury CT Police Pipes and Drums band marched around the 18th green.  Full credits were offered to all the people that worked so hard to allow the resto...

For as often as we were going there it was always a pleasant site to see the American Flag waving just outside the entrance.Glendale Center is part of the National Genesis Health Care system.  The staff are always attentive, friendly, courteous and quick to answer any questions. As I was leaving one afternoon the wind started do its thing so naturally, I did my thing.I appreciate the facilities that honor our country and display the flag and wish more would do the sameFriday Flags: A Rehab Facility Proudly Displaying the Flag in Naugatuck CT

Veteran's Day  Nov 11, 2024  Thank a Veteran for Their Service Today, in the United States, is Veteran’s Day. It’s a day to remember all Veteran’s that have served their country in a time of war. Originally it was known as Armistice Day, which was the day the articles ending World War I were signed, at the 11th hour of the 11 Day of the 11 month. On June 1, 1954, Congress changed the day and replaced Armistice with Veteran's Day in order to include the veteran's from WW11 and the Korean conflict. As today is a federal holiday, all government offices will be closed, as will be all schools.  Many restaurants will offer special meals for Veterans with proof of service.  If you should pass a person today and recognize them as having served, thank them for their service. This year especially a...

A November Sunset that Looked like Fire in the SkyConnecticut bordering on drought conditions and as the state is so dry fires are a large worry. Lat October saw a large 200-acre fire in the center of the state that had firefighters battling around the clock. It ws startling to me as I was driving up a hill to glance west and see the sky lit up fire red.I waited a few minutes trying to determine where it might be It could have been the forest bordering the Naugatuck/Middlebury lines with Interstate 84 running right through its center. The pause made it very clear that it wasn't a fire, just a brilliant sunset..Remembering the weather saying of evening red, morning gray helps the traveler on his way, it was going to be another sunny day following. A November Sunset that Looked like Fire in...

Friday Flags: A Naugatuck CT Business Proud of Its CountryDriving south on Rt 63 in Naugatuck on the way to New Haven a flutter caught my eye. I pulled over as it was something that I needed to address,A small business, Quality Sheet Metal had a parking lot full of cars and just outside the main entrance, a large flagpole with the American flag waving for all to see.I walked over to the edge of the lot to try and get a better shot and below are the results. This week especially a sense of patriotism seems appropriate and hope that the future will mend our country, and that wisdom and common sense will prevail.Friday Flags: A Naugatuck CT Business Proud of Its Country

Welcome to The Mountain Grille at East Mountain Golf Course After a 2 year absence, the club house at the East Mountain Golf Course is open with many changes designed for safety and comfort with a new 19th hole. There had been minimal changes to the inside of the club house since originally built in the early 1930's as a WPA project. As an aside, I have played golf with the son of one of those workers, whose job was to break up and remove the rocks from the fairways. I think he took too many breaks. All inside is state of the art and all mechanicals have been completed to modern day codes for the safety of all. The new owners, Pama and Mark Goggins, and Fran Phelan have intentions of operating The Mountain Grille as a year-round, family style restaurant. The building has new HVAC systems...

It’s The End to Daylight Savings Time Nov 3, 2024It's the time of year to fall back and enjoy an extra hour of sleep but the days will also start to get shorter. It's the winter solstice, it is time to change the clocks to allow for an extra hour of daylight in the morning. While most of our country will make the change Sunday, it is not consistent with the rest of the world. I say most of the country as Hawaii and Arizona do not use DSTDaylight Savings Time is also a good time to do some changes around the house. Changing the batteries in smoke detectors will keep them fresh and working  right. Some people also use it as a time to change filters around the house as in their furnaces. So, if you are out partying on Sat make those changes before you go to sleep so that you can be on time fo...

Friday Flags A Waterbury CT Company with Foreign RootsAt the exit I normally take to go home, there is a large plant that has had a few companies there over the years. Currently it is home to Drew Marine, a German owned company that services chemicals to certain maritime markets. The parking lot is large, and just across from the main entrance to the building is an lsland with a large flagpole. The breeze was blowing in many directions so I wanted to get a different view to get a better shot.Just enough to get the shot and another Friday Flag post.Friday Flags A Waterbury CT Company with Foreign Roots

Friday Flags:  A Wall of Patriotism in Cheshire CTThere is a section of Cheshire, CT known to locals as the Vale. It has some rather prestigious homes but also there are sections that are just country. One can find horses grazing in a meadow and occasionally alongside the road in one of the corrals.Everyone knows that where there are horses, there are also barns., and that is the case here. The wall of the building facing the roadway has a large decoration on the wall, that covers the wall.A flag doesn't always need to be on a pole or attached to a house and this is one family that are proud of their country.Friday Flags:  A Wall of Patriotism in Cheshire CT

Friday Flags:   Flag by Moonlight in Prospect CTWe had a full moon this week and as I was driving home early evening, I caught the flag waving on the town green.  Yes, I know proper flag decorum would have the flag being taken down at dusk and raised early morning, but this is not a military facility.I wanted to get a shot of the flag with the full moon in the background.First attempt, the moon was attuned but the wind wasn't.  So, I waited and got better results, but still not as well as I thought I could do.The light at the center of the flagpole did help to keep the flag illuminated.Still not quite satisfied but had to get back to the house.Next night, the wind was a bit stronger and still into full moon so let's take a chance.I got the ideal shot with flag fully furled and waving at...

The Northern Lights Show Further South than NormalI have had an item on the bucket list that was going to have me traveling to cooler areas of the Northern hemisphere at a time of year when I want warm climes. This was so that I could gaze and be amazed by the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. So pleased was I that they came to me and all I had to do was go outside and gaze upward. The phenomena known as the Northern Lights, or Southern, as it can also occur over the South pole as well, is caused by interaction with the Suns activities puling on the Earth's magnetic field. This launches particles at high speeds that interact with the upper layer of the earth's gasses. The simple reality is that it is a common sight in the cooler areas where the air is less dense, and no one knows why the ...
