Huge Storm on Belden Hill in Wilton CT We just endured a huge storm on the east coast this past weekend.  It was forecast to be  a regular Nor'easter, but with winds upwards of 75 mph, and 7 inches of rain in a 24 hour period, it turned out to be much more.   Belden Hill Road in Wilton CT was severely impacted, as you can see by the pictures of this large storm, with power lines down everywhere.   There are still homes without power, internet, or phone, and we are 5 days after the huge storm.  We are lucky to live on a cul-de-sac off of  Belden Hill Road, a major road, so our power was restored after three days.  We were completely blocked in for those first three days.     Our fireplace and candles were actually pretty cozy.  We had just purchased a fabulous flashlight lamp that works ...

What an adorable little building, and such a fabulous location!  I am a huge fan of acupuncture, in humans or animals, and was so excited to find this cute little building tucked away in Cannondale, in Wilton, CT.   It is called "Chi Pet."   Cannondale is a very historic spot in Wilton, CT.   There is a lot of history from this area that dates all the way back to the Revolutionary War.  The British soldiers were slipped information that a lot food for the Yankee soldiers in Pennsylvania was stored in Danbury.   On their way to Danbury from the coast, they met with stiff o...

Old Huckleberry Road in Wilton, CT   I don't think that words can describe this scene, so I'll just tell you that I took this picture today, at noon, at the reservoir on Old Huckleberry Road in South Wilton, CT.   It is a place so peaceful, no, tranquil, that the teenagers of Wilton come down here to calm their thoughts, fears, and anxieties - many have admitted to it....     To just sit on a rock out on an outcropping, listening to the birds, geese, and ducks ......    not so far from civilization, ----    but oh, so far!, really! It was over 60 degrees outside, blasting warm sun, no wind --  just the perfect spring day.  It was a chance to feel what is coming soon - Spring in South Wilton!!!   Old Huckleberry Road In Wilton, CT!

AGENCY DISCLOSURE   There are three different kinds of basic agency disclosure.  All very important information to know before you begin the buying or selling homes process.   There are three types of agency.... Buyer's agency Listing agency Dual agency - single agency   Each agency relationship carries with it legal duties and responsibilities on the part of the broker, the agent, as well as the buyer, tenant and seller.   First of all, there is the buyer's/tenant's agency.   We the agents, are referred to as the buyer's agent, when the buyer grants us permission to represent them.  A buyer's agent acts solely in the best interest of their buyer.  A buyer's agent has fiduciary duties the the buyer that include reasonable care, obedience, accounting, loyalty, and full disclosure.    A b...

We Have Lots Of Low Income Housing in Wilton, CT!   We have many units in Wilton, CT.  We have 160 affordable units for our town of 17,000 people.    Some are rental, and some are for purchase.    They are small, larger, older and newer....   It is not a well known fact in town that these units exist.     These units are in condominium complexes, single family homes, and in rental complexes such as Avalon Springs.   Lambert Common, Crowne Pond, Perry Green, Village Court, Autumn Ridge, Parish Road, and Buckingham Road all have homes for purchase.    There are income restrictions, age restrictions, and employment restrictions all found in the covenants for these units.   Wilton, like most towns in Connecticut, have to provide a certain percentage of housing for lower and moderate income ...

Seasonal Affective Disorder?   "A mental malady having everything to do with latitude."   In Northern climates, such as New England, winter daylight hours are in shorter supply, and over 20% of the population suffers from mild-to-serious depression, whereas in balmy Florida - closer to the equator- with plenty of daylight year-round, it is merely 1%.    Small wonder then, that the northern climates have a very large group of  folks who are climbing the walls, as we are in Wilton, CT.   The cure?   A little dreaming and planning in the earlier months of the year for your garden!!!!!   or at least, for your property.   No surprise that a majority of folks in the colder climates will race outdoors, first chance they get, to pick up fallen limbs, clean up the winter mess that nature leaves ...

In CT, we have had snowstorm after snow storm.    Last year, in January, my witch hazel chose to bloom!   Gorgeous yellow blossoms all over it, lasting for a month.   It carried us through until we got crocuses in March.       Witch hazel in January of 2009 in Wilton, CT  This year, however, not a one open yet, and we're nearing the end of February.  That means we won't see our crocuses until April this year!         Witch hazel in February, 2010 in Wilton, CT     ***********************************************************************

The market in Weston, CT has picked up, and is a slowly recuperating patient.   There were more homes sold this January, and in fewer days on average.  The average price has also increased, slightly, but all is hopeful.  The interest rates being as low as they are, and the prices remaining depressed, will create a good spring for the towns of Wilton, Weston, Faiefield, Norwalk, Redding, and Ridgefield.  The four year construction of Route 7, going through the middle of all of these towns, in particular, Wilton, has also contributed to the slowdown of sales.  Now that all construction is finished, things should pick up.

A New Greenway Along our Route 7 in Wilton!   There is substantial rumoring about a new "Greenway" along Route 7 here in Wilton.     Years ago, the state bought up, using eminent domain, a lot of land along the old Route 7.       The intention was to build a huge Super 7 the whole way from Danbury to Norwalk.     Norwalk approved the state's building a Super 7 through most of the town, to the Wilton border.       There it stopped, as Wilton wasn't so sure that this was what was in the best interest of its residents.       Law suits ensued for many many years, environmental issues were raised, etc.       Now, it appears that there is no money left, even if the highway were to be approved, so the residents are fighting for the "Greenway" to be located on the empty land. This will be a fab...

Does your Town Allow Plastic Bags? Wilton, CT has just put out the idea that they will ban plastic bags in all stores within the next six months.   I thought that it had already been passed, but then read "probably six months....."   What is there to think about?   Are they worried about the stores' inventories of bags?   Who cares?  Let's get started!   Besides, there are some amazingly cool bags out there!      Westport, CT, the neighboring town, has had a ban in place for a while, and found there was no resistence to it anywhere.    Stores, public, - all love it!  No more bags blowing in the wind along the highways, nor in the rivers and streams, and none in the parking lots or beaches, either!    Everyone had already bought all of these recycleable bags, --  they were just forgettin...

The Turnover Shop in Wilton, CT is located just around the corner and below the Wilton Village Market (best food store in town!)   This shop benefits the Wilton school system - all donations and monies made go directly to the schools in town.   They have a wonderful system, whereby one can pop in anytime between 10 am and 4 pm and just drop donations, pick up a donation tax sheet, and out you go.   If you wanted to consign items, you would need to go between 10 am and noon on only Tuesdays and Thursdays.   Most everyone just drops donations from their homes and runs.    It is a nice way to clean out your home closets, and contribute to the Wilton schools.  The staff is 100% volunteer, and most have been working there for at least 20 years, if not  a lot longer.   They know everyone in...

SCOOP up an Ice Cream in Wilton, CT with "SCOOPS !!!" SCOOPS was opened over 25 years ago in Wilton, CT by two local women who found a huge need for a place to go to take the kids for ice cream.   Wilton had bookstores, florists, markets, banks, clothing and sports and hardware stores, but no "treat" stores.   So, these two very good friends of mine named Care Heeks and Shelly Lawson opened one.  What is it they say?  Find a need, and fill it!  That they did.      All of the kids' sports teams go straight to Scoops to celebrate their wins, or to drown their losses.....    a fabulous congregating spot! Neither Care nor Shelly are there, anymore, other owners run it now, but the same spirit and intent and excitement about the local families still "runs with the land," so to speak.... Ever...

It's the center of a lot of residents' lives...    A great little market that stocks more than I can find in the local Stop 'n' Shop, and a lot of varieties, too!  This market is interested in what the consumer of the area wants and participates in almost every fund raiser and community effort that exists.  If the Relay for Life is coming to town, you know that the Village Market donated a lot of goods, time and money to the event.  I know, as I have worked the Relay for Life now for many years ..... and they also help out with most of the school events! They have a great spot in the store to keep the kids happy - a movie corner.  Always playing some great Disney movie for the kids to watch while mom or dad shops.   There's also a huge basket loaded with goodies for the kids under 12 wh...

Please Pay It Forward!! I attended Rain Camp all day yesterday --  WHAT AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF GREAT INFORMATION!   Well Done!!   I enjoyed every minute!    Rain Camp is an event run by the Active Rain (it's a real estate site) group. It's focus yesterday was on the new social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and how to use them to our benefit. I certainly learned a lot, but also know how much I do not know...... I NEED another Rain Camp tomorrow! I returned home on the shuttle (first time - I'll admit I was nervous...) from Grand Central, and then the Metro-North train (first time for me- we always drive in) to find a request for me to send out a blog.  The train rides turned out to be quite alright, a little crowded, and I never got lost. I received an email from a fellow na...
