Groundhog Day 2023 Descension in the RanksIn the Groundhog Day tradition, the groundhog wakes up early on the annual Feb. 2 holiday and looks around for its shadow. If it sees its shadow, winter will persist for another six weeks. If the groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, then spring will come early. In Gobbler's Nob PA, Punxsutawney Phil, probably annoyed at being rousted from bed so early, and after almost biting one of the assembled dignitaries, predicted another 6 weeks of winter.Chuckles XI made his annual appearance at the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester. Manchester Mayor Jay Moran translated Chuckles XI prediction of an early spring. So who is one to believe?Common sense would suggest that always trust the ones closest to you which would mean we will not have that dreaded 6 ext...

Prospect CT Residents Are In the Christmas SpiritAs one drives through the residential neighborhoods in Prospect CT one can see the homes all nicely decorated for Christmas. Even before one gets into the streets, the street signposts are also nicely decorated.  The town will have its competition with the best decorated signpost again this year.I did take a drive to see what the competition was and there was certainly some imagination at work.  Here are a few of the creative designs:And this last one just hit my funny bone especially for the number of times the movie The Christmas Story is being played this year. Hopefully Archie won't shoot out anybody's eyes. The lamp is something I saw while doing a home search earlier this year. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Prosp...

The Fall Colors Are DONE In Central CT, Week 5It had to end at some point, and with the rain and the wind we had earlier in the week, the peak is gone and with it went most of the color to the trees.I have been showing the progression of the colors on our par 3 fifth hole.On October 1 we had very little in color surrounding the green.A week later on October 9, it was starting to show shades of yellow and red.October 16 showed that we were definitely getting to the cusp of peak in color surrounding that same green. On October 22 it was very distracting for the wind blowing the leaves, and the colors around the hole.On October 29, it was a mixture of leaves trying to hang on and the barren limbs lost of all color,Looking backwards towards the tee it was very similar and if a ball wasn't hi...

Friday Flags A Double Flurry in Prospect CTI search the landscape each week to try and find our flag waving in tph breeze. Most days there is very little if any breeze and harder to even find a flag in front of a business. This week, in particular, as the state continues to honor the memory of the 2 police officers senselessly killed 2 weeks ago, I found a business that had multiple flagpoles and on the main pole, the American flag, and a second one with darker stripes and colors. The police flag also known as the thin blue line is a representation of the brave men and women that stand between, we citizens, and the people that are trying to do us harm. They are our safety wall and are there to sacrifice themselves at any cost. While we appreciate the US flag, a vast majority of us also app...

The Fall Colors Are Here In Central CT, Week 3It is deep into our fall colors and every drive is filled with a colorful roadway, or in the case of the photos I've selected, fairways. The photo above was our 5th green at the end of September, very little in color. The photo below was the week after, 10/09.And a week later we have the photo below. The color is bright and very much advanced from a week previous. The photo below is from the green looking back to the tee.I also tool a couple of extra shots of the treelined fairways. There are a lot of colors to distract this time of year, as well as leaves on the ground that make the balls hard to find. Then there's this maple tree that can't decide which color it wants to stay.We are very close to peak and then the dark side of autumn with the...

Friday Flags:  Hotchkiss Field Prospect CTThe past week was a strange week for weather as we went through the remnants of Tropic Storm Ian. As I was driving though the center of Prospect CT, I glanced to my right and saw the wind working the flag at the rear of Hotchkiss Field Hotchkiss Field is the largest park in town, and it is a multi-purpose play area with all seasonal activities available.  There are the basketball courts tennis courts, running track, soccer pitches, ball fields, and even the ice-skating area. The Field of Dreams play-scape and is a wonderful play area for younger kids.Friday Flags:  Hotchkiss Field Prospect CT

The Fall Colors are Starting in Central CTWe have transitioned into the season of color known as Fall. Very quickly the trees will start their changes and fall foliage will be all around us here in Connecticut. As I was walking with a client I noticed a spray of color at the base of an oak tree. From a distance it looked like a cluster of mini pumpkins, but as I got closer it was a mushroom cluster and a color I had not seen before. While they may look very tempting, i do know that the only mushrooms I would eat come in bags from the local grocery.Other colors will come soon, and I will share them as well. The Fall Colors are Starting in Central CT

Veterans Memorial in Prospect CT  Friday FlagsWe have a brisk Autumn like day in Prospect T this day and as I drove [assed the town center I took a detour onto the Green are of the town. The flag in the center of the square was flowing in the autumn breeze. It stands adjacent to the Veteran's Memorial on the green. The original monument was dedicated in 1907 and has the names of the locals that fought in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as Worl War 1The smaller monument at the front of the fenced area was dedicated in 1977 and honors the fallen residents in World War II, as well as the Korean conflict and Viet Nam.As mankind tends to repeat it's errors, there will most likely be another memorial at some point in the future dedicated to the fallen in other areas of the world as we...

It's Labor Day, September 5, 2022It's Labor Day, which was a day originally intended to be a day of recognition for those that labor hard all year round. And maybe just a way of putting a holiday at the beginning of fall. The tone of the day has gotten lost over the years, as stores stay open for shoppers; we in real estate are still making calls and showing houses; and few people are just taking a break.Historically, we in the United States have been recognized by foreigners as people that work too much, and don't know how to take time off to relax. The history of this country has and will continue to be as a land of opportunity where hard work can pay off, and anybody that is willing to put in the efforts can succeed. So if your choice is to take advantage of the offering and relax a bi...

Friday Flags McGrath Park in Prospect CTMcGrath Park in Prospect CT is centrally located and offers some facilities and diversions for residents or anyone else that choses to spend time there. The pond is man-made and hosts fishing derbies for young and old with stocked varieties of fish. The excessive heat coupled with the drought this summer has made it difficult to maintain lawns and the park shows the stress.Apart of the park includes tennis courts and also part of them have been converted to pickle-ball courts and they are very well used. The flag flies right along Rt 68, the Cheshire Rd and it is partially blocked from the winds by the large hill adjacent to the park. I was fortunate to be passing by when the gust caught it and wanted to share it as well. There is parking for the park...

Mother Nature Appreciates it as WellFor all the Friday nights in July we have been attending the Hartford Symphony Orchestra's summer concert series, Talcott Mountain Music Festival under the stars in Simsbury. This year there were no postponed concerts due to rain, which in one way is good, but we do need the rain. The theme of the last evening was the Queens of Soul which showcased songs from some great singers past and present. There were 3 singers that each added their flavor to the songs that were presented.Early into the evening, while still light, one of the singers started to sing the Etta James Classic, 'At Last'.With no moisture in the air, there was a flash of a rainbow right over the shell as even the heavens appreciated the series and the song.It was a fine rendition and a wo...

Friday Flags in Watertown CTI pass this way regularly on Wednesday mornings on the way to a senior golf league n Watertown CT.The building is Crystal Rock Water Co on Buckingham St in Watertown CT. The company provides a number of purified water options with home or office delivery. They have also branched out to other office delivery item in the beverage fields. The company is over 100 years old.  On this day, however, their large flag was at half-mast out of respect for the over 200 people killed at parade events ofver the Holiday weekend. It was a sad way to celebrate the birth of our Nation's independence. The Constitution was written with the amendment to offer citizens the right to bear arms, but at the time, the nation of the early country was such that protecting the home and home...

Happy Independence Day July 4, 2022Independence Day, also called Fourth of July, in the United States, the annual celebration of nationhood. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It is now celebrated by cities all over the country with parades and when possible fantastic fireworks display. We heard the fireworks from the neighboring town of Waterbury as they had it on a high elevation and the valley carried the sounds up to Prospect. We will have a small gathering of family today with a little barbecue and laughs. We hope you will also celebrate the day and enjoy the company you have.Happy Independence Day July 4, 2022
