Do You Have Good Tires on Your Car in tThis Weather?    Town Fair Tire It's always a good idea to have proper tires, but in the snow and ice we have had this winter, it is crucial.   I have had semi bald tires on the front of my car, and have been avoiding driving in the bad weather.   Finally, today, Presidents' Day, I have the time, and am sitting at Town Fair Tire to get brand new tires on the front.   Actually, they shifted the backs to the front, and are placing the new on the back of the car.    I am at Town Fair Tire in Norwalk, on Main Avenue, just off of the top of the Route 7 Connector.  They have always provided us with superb tire service, and run a good service business.    Easy to get to, and easy to wait for the work to be done.    I MUST drive tomorrow, and I hear we now...

Rumford Fireplaces - Norwalk, CT in a Victorian Restoration Home Today, with the extensive restoration of old and historic houses and the renewed popularity of early American and classical architecture in new construction, Rumford fireplaces are enjoying a comeback. Rumford fireplaces are generally appreciated for their tall classic elegance and their heating efficiency. I went to a home today to speak about listing the property for sale.    The home  owners were so absolutely delightful, and spent an hour showing me everything they had been doing to restore the home to as authentic a state as they could.  It was wonderful to go hear all of their stories and research and all about the work they had done over the past ten years. One of the projects had been building the most wonderful, m...

Battle of the Rocks- Norwalk CT - Revolutionay War- Cannonball Along the road in Norwalk CT on Hillside Street, there is a small shrine to this battle that took place during the Revolutionary War.    It appears that either the town or the neighborhood takes care of it, and plants flowers every year.    This cannonball was found as it is today, embedded in the rock.  Wow! Except for my footprints, it was undisturbed since the last snow.    Just some fun trivia about Norwalk CT in the area just south of Route 95 and to the west.   Battle of the Rocks- Norwalk CT - Revolutionay War- Cannonball View Larger Map

After The Snowstorm in Norwalk, CT As I watched the snowstorm dissipate and go from inches of snow, to sleet, to rain and then to frozen terrain, I observed the sun settle over the hills and was entranced with this lone tree against a wonderful, winter sky.   It almost made the snowstorm worthwhile ....   After The Snowstorm in Norwalk, CT

Another Major Snow Storm in Norwalk, CT For those of us who live on the East Coast, you are already aware that we got slammed, once again, with snow.  Actually, I really like the snow; it's the aftermath that is frustrating and not particularly attractive - slushy, brown snow is not appealing.   This photo was taken just after the sun had come up and the snowplows had already been working overtime.  I couldn't sleep with the anticipation of how much snow would arrive in the middle of the night and the amount of shoveling necessary to clear the driveway. Weather forecasters can, oftentimes, get us all worked up about the 'disaster' that is approaching.  This time, however, their report was fairly accurate; but everyone was prepared and handled it well.     Let's keep our fingers crossed ...

Love Affair With Bridges in South Norwalk, CT (SoNo) What can I say, I love SoNo!  This enclave of Norwalk known as South Norwalk aka SoNo has so much history (incorporated in 1870) such great museums, the Maritime Aquarium, IMAX theater, fabulous restaurants, annual festivals, the Norwalk Harbor and Long Island Sound, sculling and easy access to NYC from the South Norwalk Metro North Railroad that will take you into 'the' city in one hour. One of the things that intrigues me about SoNo is the architecture. Today, my focus is on the bridges that one can find in the town.  It seems as though every time I'm wandering around SoNo, I'm always snapping additional photos of these wonderful, inspiring, eye-catching structures. This particular bridge passes around the Maritime Aquarium.  It has...
