The Outside Blog Minion Report ClubChaosAgents.com CTannStarr on Yale University, New Haven If you are traveling to Massachusetts, New Haven is conveniently situated between Boston and New York. When I think about going to Boston I always think about stopping in New Haven to see my friends. I was blessed to enjoy a tweet-up with Dan Cummings, Sandra Cummings and Donna Bigda. Although it rained the entire day, we had a blast hanging out and I learned a considerable amount of new and fascinating information about my beloved blogging buddies (LOL). We had the most marvelous dining experience at Modern Pizza which has a very interesting menu. They have created a few dishes that I have never seen or heard of, so of course I have to come back and try them. In case you have not been paying to...

Many of us will be spending this three day weekend with family and friends at picnics, at the beach, attending parades and celebrating the start of summer in observance of Memorial Day. Others will be watching the running of the Indianapolis 500 which since 1911 is one of the longest standing traditions held in conjunction with Memorial Day. Memorial Day also known as Decoration Day is officially observed on May 30 to commemorate our fallen soldiers dating back to the Civil War. In December 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act asking all Americans to pause for one minute of silence at 3:00 pm local time to remember our fallen soldiers and to promote a greater understanding of the meaning of the Memorial Day holiday. This weekend is the time to join others and obs...

The Carousel at Lighthouse Point Park - Morris Cove New Haven CT   If you're looking for a unique and antique treasure, it's time to visit The Historic Carousel at Lighthouse Point Park located on the east side of the New Haven Harbor in the community of Morris Cove. Built in 1916 the carousel has 72 figures mounted on a 60 foot platform.  Decorating the carousel are original oil paintings of New Haven local scenery along with mermaids, trains, lighthouses, sailboats and beveled mirrors. During the 1920's there were more than 10,000 such carousels in existence but today the Lighthouse Park Carousel is less than one of a hundred still in operation. The highlight of the day for many years on a visit to Lighthouse Park was to ride the carousel.  Over the years hurricanes and deterioration ...

Five Mile Point Lighthouse Morris Cove New Haven CT   The city of New Haven Connecticut is rich in history and features many areas and places thar are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A stone's throw away from my backyard in the Morris Cove  neighborhood of New Haven is Lighthouse Park home to the historical Five Mile Point Lighthouse. Marking the entrance to the New Haven Harbor is the Five Mile Point Lighthouse given its name for its distance from downtown New Haven. The original lighthouse built in 1805 was a 30-foot octagonal shingled wooden tower with its light generated by eight lamps and thirteen inch reflectors. From the beginning the light from the beacon was considered too dim and too low and was not protection for seamen who relied on the beacon to protect ...

The weather turned out to be great for the Parade this year.  Sights and sounds were similar to past years but I thought I caught a glimpse of AR's own Beth Forbes but she turned away before I could snap a confirmation photo.  My wife came along this year so we just found a little piece of ground and watched for awhile.  Usually I prefer to move around and take in the less noticed sights so instead of dwelling on the marchers I'll revisit the more interesting adventure from a previous year. Upon my arrival the smell of beer and cigarettes was thick as was the crowd, maybe 10 feet wide with a few watching the parade and others attempting to travel in both directions.  The push was slow. My next half hour was spent flowing north squeezed into a sea of college girls & Gen-X'ers.  Guess wit...

In the Real Estate Business here in New England March 1st is kind of the unofficial start of our Spring Market but as I backed out of my driveway this morning signs of spring were pretty well hidden.  Winter has been hanging on this year and has dumped double the average annual snowfall on us. Another sign of spring from a runner's viewpoint is the WPLR ShamRock & Roll 5k.  Since 99.1 has been my station of choice dating back to the mid 70's it makes sense to participate in the event each year. Back in the day I'd typically hit Toad's Place in New Haven after eight on a Saturday night,  now the only time I make an appearance is a little after eight on a Sunday morning in March. Just over two years ago when I started blogging my results at the WPLR ShamRock & Roll 5k offered a perfect op...

Hannah's Dream Playground - East Shore Park New Haven Connecticut When she was eight years old, Hannah Kristan of New Haven Connecticut had a vision.  Born with Spina Bifida and confined to a wheelchair since she was two years old, Hannah was unable to play at the local playground or at school recess due to the lack of handicapped-accessible equiprment.   Hannah wanted to play just as much as everyone else her age and did not let her limitations stop her from starting a campaign to finance a handicap accessible playground where all children could play together by selling homemade jewelry and baked goods. Through Hannah's persistence and the generousity of the community Hannah's Dream Playground opened on September 8, 2000 at East Shore Park on Woodward Avenue.  This 300,000 square foot ...
