Woodruff Family YMCA , Milford,CT Open House a  Hit with young and old As the late Mr. Rogers would have said:  "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood!" thanks to all the warm hearts and helping hands whose tireless efforts continually make the Milford, CT YMCA the best spot for family fun. Today, Saturday, March 29, 2008 was the annual Open House at the Y.  From 12 until well after 4 pm, families poured in.  Activities included face painting (a really big hit thanks to the artistry of Kathy & Ashley) , crafts, camp games, free swim, sample classes such as Yoga for Kids, archery and kick boxing.  The YMCA also brought in entertainment such as Curious Critters who delighted children and parents alike with his very ‘hands-on' approach. Kids were able to handle such interesting critters...

One of the biggest concerns (besides finding the perfect Connecticut town to live in) is what corporations and types of businesses are in Connecticut and where.  Today, we are very much a society of two, working professionals, so when one person has a chance for a great career opportunity in another area they must carefully evaluate the impact on their partner.  To view the entire article and list of Connecticuts Largest Coporations click here.

Brightness "stars" on the horizon for Milford. Kudos to Jim Aman, Speaker of the House and Milford,CT resident for doing his part to build Connecticut's economy and job base.   Jim along with Hollywood East (the development committee for these projects) is one of the proponents for film-industry tax credits which are largely responsible for several movies recently being filmed here and featuring stars such as Uma Thurman, Harrison Ford and other big names.   The next big project will be set around a local bar and called "The Wreck"  to find out more out this and other film related projects in Connecticut click here. Who knows one of these projects could propel a unknown local into stardom! Maybe even me.

A new book recently published about Milford CT and authored by seventeen year old Peter Eason, a resident of Milford, has released his first book The Founding Fathers Footsteps.  Peter not only wrote the book, which provides a walking tour of the downtown area, he also took the photographs that focus on his topic - the city's 20 historic markers. Now those of us who grew up or currently live in Milford have seen these around the town for years, and I for one have just walked on by without searching for their story which as it turns out is very interesting indeed. Included in the book is the town's first mill, the site of the tavern where George Washington dined as well as former locations of Robert Treat who was not only one of Milford's founder fathers, but went on to found Newark New...

"That House in Milford CT" Kudos to the Donnells of 75 Meadows End Road in Milford, CT giving credence to the name "a small city with a big heart!"  For the past six years years the Donnells have been decorating their home and are now up to 30,000 lights!  This year the couple has created a website ThathouseInMilford where you can find before and after photos of the house and helpful links to help you create your own holiday decorations and a blog site the "Daily Blabber". This year the Donnells  "in an effort to help those less fortunate" have gone a step further with their holiday spirit and generosity and have started a Virtual Food Bank on their website as well in conjunction with the CT Food Bank.  I took a few photos of a house on Old Tavern Road in Orange CT which shows great H...
