From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 59 – Into Thin Air on IMAX in Norwalk Nothing like preparing for the inevitable snow with a movie about those climbing a mountain. “Jon Krakauer's blockbuster book,"Into Thin Air," chronicled the tragic 1996 Mount Everest climb in which eight climbers lost their lives. In “Everest,” the IMAX documentary, the story is picked up and follows the team who continued on to reach the 29,000-foot summit after rescuing survivors of the deadly storm. The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk screens this remarkable film, "Everest," in a return engagement. In 1998, when it premiered, it sold out and ultimately became the highest-grossing IMAX documentary ever made. "“All IMAX documentaries have the crystal-clear imagery and incredible sound quality that result in t...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 58 – Drive down Greenwich Avenue when it is lit up There are few things I remember more vividly about Greenwich than the Greenwich Avenue lit up through the holidays. It’s a great time of the year to take a drive down the avenue. I’m not very elegant with my words, so I’ll leave the similes to the poets. Per the Greenwich Time, it looks like we are actually very lucky to have a lit up avenue this year. For those of you in the generous spirit, this might be a worthy cause.

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 57 – Be Wise about your Wine in Greenwich Yeah, that’s a horrible tagline I came up with, but hopefully you’ll remember the store (WineWise). If you are looking for white zinfandel (booooo) or something in a box (yeahhhh) this isn’t your place. WineWise is a boutique wine shop focused on small production wines that you’ll have a hard time finding elsewhere. They do not deal high-volume, discount store wine. The store is great and has a constantly changing selection of wines from all around the globe. To those of us who might need some help picking out bottles or want to try out something new, I couldn’t recommend WineWise more. They host many tastings and pride themselves on making wine buying fun and easy going. The store is owned by Christophe...

As some of you are aware, I've been spending a couple months trying to figure out what I want to put together for a local webpage.  My intentions have been to create a community webpage for clients and locals to play around with.  At the suggestion of an Active Rain member, I started Greenwich365.com where I post a new thing to do in Greenwich, CT every day.  I'm still staying on with that, but I have combined it into a better page! With some creative searching and spending of coin, I got hold of www.GreenwichCT.com.  I hope to create a blogging platform/forum here for people to talk all about the town on. What do you think? The logo may look simple, but I spent a lot of time figuring out exactly what typeface i wanted to use.

From my blog at: Greenwich365.com THING 54 – Buy Your Luminaries Fundraisers are cool, but you end up spending all night talking to people you either see every day or people you have no interest in talking to. I’m a fan of raising money for well deserving causes and appreciate original ways to get people to contribute. Over the past 17 years, the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids has been selling luminaries and promoting outdoor flames. I’m sure these little bags are safe, but there is always something nice about lighting a little fire. The official luminary season started with a display at Binney Park on December 4th, but the real display night is this Sunday. At 5pm on Sunday night (Dec 12th) thousands of families throughout Fairfield County will light up their luminaries....

From my blog – www.Greenwich365.com THING 53 – Computer Class at the Greenwich Library I’m guessing that if you are reading my blog you know the basics of working a computer, though if you need some more help swing by the Greenwich Library on Thursdays between 3 and 4pm. This is when the Greenwich Library hosts a drop-in class for people that need help with any general computer problems ranging from searching through the internet to problems with Microsoft Word. My heart goes out to anyone that helps people with computer issues. I don’t have the tolerance for working through my computer issues, let alone someone else’s. From my blog at www.Greenwich365.com THING 52 – Green Drinks in Greenwich I’m not sure that this picture depicts what they were thinking when GreenDrinks.org started, but it works for me. Come on, doesn’t that look tasty! Anyhow, tonight at Le Pain Quotidien Greenwich Green Drinks will be hosting its lil cocktail event. The Greenwich Conservation Director, Denise Savageau, will be in attendance. I have some serious greening up to do (love my car, don’t know the size of my footprint), but for those of you who know how to recycle just about everything, thank you and enjoy some drinks tonight! From my blog: www.Greenwich365.com THING 51 – Greenwich Newcomers @ Saks Saks is hosting a gathering for the Greenwich Newcomers Society (www.greenwichnewcomerssociety.com) tonight and I thought it would be worth writing about. I don’t know much about the Newcomer’s Society, but it seems like a neat organization for anyone that wants to learn more about the town. I’m in the process of talking to Greg Kraut to learn more myself, but if anyone out there has had any experience with the group please feel free to speak up. “Join us for a festive evening of wine and refreshments, private shopping, complimentary makeovers and 15% off your purchases. For more information, please contact Geri Corrigan at 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM - Saks Fifth Avenue - 205 Greenwich Avenue Greenwich, CT 06830”

From my blog: www.Greenwich365.com THING 48 - First Light! (Old Greenwich – Sound Beach Ave & Arcadia Road) Tonight from 6pm to 9pm downtown Old Greenwich will play host to the 12th annual First Light Festival. The event is organized and put on by the Old Greenwich Merchants Association (a group of retailers working together to promote a community based retail environment for the village of Old Greenwich). “Popular attractions at the First Light Festival are the horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday carols sung by The Accidentals from Tr...

From my blog www.Greenwich365.com THING 46 – Build a Giant Cheerio Because I’m convinced that President Bartlett is a real person, I’m a big fan of anything that was named after him. Clearly the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens was built in dedication to him…. Anyhow, if you have some time, money, creative juice and are willing to travel outside of Greenwich (just one town over, don’t worry) then you should take a look at the Wreath Making Class at the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens in Stamford, CT. I’m not sure if this is SPAM or not? I’m just desperate for some extra cash to buy the wife lady something nice. There are some pretty desperate companies out there; I keep getting updates from those on my blog www.Greenwich365.com. There are some pretty desperate companies out there; I keep getting updates from those on my blog www.Greenwich365.com. I’m curious how low they are going to go as we approach Christmas. If you know of any other good affiliate links keep me posted. I'm sorry for the marketing here, but thought that if you were going to be buying something anyways why not go through my site. It won't cost you a dime. If this is SPAM and you really don't want to see it I'll crawl back into my hole....

For the full list of things to do in Greenwich, CT, please visit my blog at www.Greenwich365.com THING 45 – Paper Theaters at Bruce Museum Here’s another event I probably won’t make it to, though I thought many of my readers and some of my relatives might enjoy. I gather there is a real history behind the paper theater. The write up on Bruce’s website talks about how all the stages have mirrored great city locations, such as London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Copenhagen. “The exhibition A Child's View: 19th-Century Paper Theaters, opening on Saturday, October 30, 2010, and on view through January 30, 2011, showcases approximately 35 colorful, antique paper theaters plus related materials from the personal collection of Eric G. Bernard of New York City. The plays, adapted into small playb...
