Friday Flags: The Flag Appreciated the Event of the 4th of JulyWe spent the 4th of July listening to a full concert presented by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at their summer venue in Simsbury, CT. The announced crowd, within the paid gates was 8,000.The concert for the July 4th Holiday is always a tribute to America, as they have honor guards representing the services. We were there with a family friend and ironically, with each service that was honored, I could show pride, not only for my service (Army), but also my father and brother (Navy), my wife's son, (Air Force), a first cousin of mine, (US Coast Guard) and our neighbor's husband and son (US Marines)People clapped to the rhythm of the songs, sang, if they knew the words, and drank a bit as well as it is all allowed.I took a l...

Friday Flags: A Patriotic 4th of July in Prospect CT, 2025We have a most appropriate Friday Flags, which coincides with the Birthday of our country. YAH!Our small town is mostly residential with the requisite businesses. It is the intersection of 2 state roadways, Rts 68, East & West and Rt 69, North and south. The town intersection sits atop the highest point in town where the town hall is located.Every utility pole for at least 1/2 mile coming into the intersection bears our flag, and on the day, I took this Friday Flag photo, the town hall flag said no reason to wait today.Have a safe and happy Fourth of July Friday and weekend. Friday Flags: A Patriotic 4th of July in Prospect CT, 2025

Happy 4th of July 2025 to all my ActiveRain friends.  Tomorrow is the 4th of July, and my wife will be traveling to my nephew's house in RI for a family cookout.  My youngest son and his wife will also be becoming up from Mananas, VA, and will spend the weekend with us.We don't get many opportunities to get the family together, so these family get together's are very special.  Everyone brings a side dish or desert, and my nephew normally provides the hot dogs and hamburgers.  This year I will be bring pizza rolls from a nearby pizza restaurant.  They are called pizza rolls but are really like pizza balls.  They are round and donut hole size with pepperoni, and you dip them in a marinara sauce.Hopefully all of you will have a happy 4th of July, and get to spend quality time with your fam...

I  am pleased to announce the sale of 64 Winding Ridge Way in Danbury CT. This property sold in June  2025. Set in the 'Rivington' community of Danbury, this 3 bedroom 3.5 bath 'end unit' was custom built by the original owner, who lived in the unit 5.5 years.  The owners invested in many extra features including extra deep finished basement, additional windows, an oversized center island with 'waterfall' countertop, drop zone, extra lighting,  and upgraded appliance package. The unit is among the largest in the community, with just over 3400 square feet including the lower level. It sits on a premium lot with extra space between the neighbor for additional privacy. The property was on the market for about 6 weeks. We did get a lot of foot traffic through, but it wasn't exactly the righ...

This property sold in June of 2025Set in the 'Rivington-Mews' community of Danbury, this 2 bedroom 2 full bath ranch style unit was purchased by the original owners in 2018. The unit was tastefully appointed with white kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances & hardwood floors in the living room, dining room & kitchen.  The purchase price is $485,000, which is in line with neighborhood property values. My clients contacted by about a year ago. Friday Flags: A Union of Church and State in Prospect, CTOur spring, from what I read has been like all else, with temperature extremes, a lot of rain and intermittent winds, and even a combination of all with a 48-hour span. It was no different early in the weekend. As I was driving up one of the man roads in town, the lawn and flags on utility poles were appreciating the airing out by the winds.A look down a long drive of a large church in town offered a view that just made it mandatory for me to turn around.A I had seen if flying full just a short while ago, I chose to wait a bit to see if I could get the shot.  My patience was rewarded. The people that call this church theirs have a great sense of pride as the building and land were meticulous. They also have a bit of pride in their co...

Outdoor Concerts that Excell: Talcott Mountain Music FestivalSummer is the season for sitting on a green space and looking up at the assemblage of musicians on the stage and appreciating their efforts. So many small towns hold a weekly night of music al-fresco where local bans get to do their thing and just maybe catch the ear of someone that 'knows a guy' and their careers are established. While we enjoy the evenings, there is still nothing that we have experienced that can take the place of the concerts offered in July at The Meadows in Simsbury, CT.For 5 successive, rain permitting, Friday nights starting this week, June 27 the Hartford Symphony Orchestra will perform outdoors in their summer series, The Talcott Mountain Music festival. The concerts are not free and while the sounds can...

Happy Father's Day to all fathers.  It was a very special day today even though both my son live far away.  It started with going to church, followed by lunch at a favorite places where I enjoyed one of my favorite meals, whole belly clams.  I then got a call from my youngest son letting me know I was getting 5 dozen golf balls with an icon that is a likeness of me printed on them.  Later in the evening I FaceTime with my oldest son, and gorgeous granddaughter.  It is not the same as all being with them, but it was still a very special day!!!I hope the rest of the fathers reading this blog get to spend their Father's Day in their own special way.  Enjoy it, and appreciate the blessings you are so fortunate to have.

Flag Day 2025 Show it ProudlyUnlike many flags around the world, our nations banner has been altered as our country grew. The original flag, commissioned by General George Washington and sewn by Betsy Ross, displayed the 13 colonies both as stripes and as stars.January 1, 1776: The first United States flag, the “Grand Union,” was displayed by George Washington. Of course, all know that it was credited to Betsy Ross as the designed and creator of the first flag. June 14, 1777: The Stars and Stripes were adopted by the Continental Congress as the Flag of the United States. The modification above was one that was flying when we visited Yorktown where the final battle for Independence was fought and the British General Cornwallis surrendered. June 14, 1877: Flag Day was observed nationally f...

Friday Flags: A Brisk Breeze for the Senior League in Watertown CTThe Golf course at Crestbrook Park is a very challenging test of abilities and one that I called my home course for almost 40 years.  As I prefer to walk when I play, I can't manage to do 18 and have changed locations. However, many of the people that I do know from the days there are also among those participating in the Senior League, which plays every Wednesday AM.A shotgun start with 88 players promptly at 8:30 AMThere are 2 divisions, A Div for players with a 9-hole handicap of less than 11 & a B Div for the higher handicap players. and I am in the A div and last year we competed for the league Championship and came up 1 shot short. This week, there was a brisk breeze so the flag offered directions and my photo-op.Wit...

There are several towns within the Greater Danbury area. They have offer their own character, advantages & possible disadvantages. Each has their own character, real estate options & real estate values. Typically, the further east you could go from Danbury,  further from New York, the newer single residential real estate is, but it isn't always the more affordable. You would also have to consider the school system, price of real estate, number of or lack of services, commuting options & time, expected property taxes and other factors to determine which town you feel is the best of your needs. -Danbury-Bethel-Brookfield-New Fairfield-New Milford-Redding-Ridgefield-Sherman-Newtown-SouthburyOther towns that I do cover include Sherman ,Woodbury ,Middlebury & Monroe, CT. Friday Flags: A Home Depot Flag That Wanted to be NoticedAs a homeowner, it is next to impossible to not go to a hardware store almost monthly. It may not be urgent but the convenience is without equal. An early spring day found me going to get the fertilizers I would need for the lawn and plants. Too early for the garden and flowers for the window boxes. The wind was blowing pretty strong as I entered, and I paused just a bit to get this shot.  I made my purchases and went to the car to unload and move on.  n the way to put the cart away, I took a look up and the flag was crying out to me to snap another one, which I did.Neither shot was bad, and in reality, this brand is pretty popular across the country. Friday Flags: A Home Depot Flag That Wanted to be Noticed

Friday Flags: A Good Night in Colchester, CTWe attended an awards night for the students at Bacon Academy, the high school that serves the 9-12 grades in Colchester, CT.Our grandson, Raphael was to receive some recognition, and when the evening was over, he was the recipient of 5 certificates of achievement. On the way-out f the school, I glanced at the flags near the entrance, and it was if they were calling out to me.Both the US flag, and the state of CT flag were in full wave.He had an exceptional year and passed his AP classes with high grades. He is working to be able to get grades that will allow him to pursue his college degree with minimum lending.Friday Flags: A Good Night in Colchester, CT

Memorial Day 2025 Remember Those That Paid the PriceWe watched the Memorial Day Concert last night on PBS It was emotional as they had set the show to have storylines given by award winning stars that presented the real-life accounts of heroes from WWll, Korea, Viet Nam and the Middle East.At the end of each presentation these people walked away from the podium to greet the heroes they had just honored. They used the phrase, Gold Star to recognize those that had fallen in battle.I was once told a story by my father, a WWll Navy veteran, who lived with an aunt in New Bedford, MA prior to enlisting in 1942.That aunt had 3 sons of her own each of which had enlisted in the service. Recognition was shown when families with sons in the war put starts in their windows to show that they cared.Th...

Today is 2025 Memorial Day In Middletown, CT.  Memorial Day is a day our Country has set aside to honor the fallen men and women who have served in our Armed Forces, and put their lives on the line to ensure the freedoms we have.Memorial Day has also become a time where families get together for picnics and family fun.  Some may even attend a local parades or participate in one.  Whatever you do today I hope a part of the day is spent on reflecting upon the meaning of this day, and those who we honor.  For my wife and I today will be a day of relaxing, and putting some ribs on the grill.  But for many today will involve traveling a fair distance to be with family and friends.  So my annual messages has become the one above, and hope today will be a day free of accidents and loss of live...
