Friday Flags Patriotic Prospect CT Pool Supply StoreAlong the business corridor in Prospect are several offices and small businesses. At the front of one is a flag to identify the business as loyal to our country. The angle at which it hangs makes it difficult to get a shot of in full flutter, but regardless, it is there for all to see and just maybe catch an eye to let people know the owners are proud Americans. The hurricane running through the south will make an impact here in CT this weekend, Maybe I can catch a shot when the wind is blowing. Friday Flags Patriotic Prospect CT Pool Supply Store

Throwback Thursdays:  What Home Service Used to BeThere re many services that we still utilize for the convenience of not leaving our home. Mail is still a given, and we now get regular deliveries from Amazon, FedEx and UPS.A recent vacation trip gave me a thought as to what we may have been receiving as well as a memory of what I do recall as a child. There was once a lot of competition for home delivery of milk and other dairy products. A lined box was always on the door stoop to receive the milk, and as a routine, the man would knock on the door to get paid.Cleaned bottles were left out and if a change in delivery was needed, a note was inserted at the top of one of the bottles.Prior to the fully appreciated modern refrigerator, keeping perishables fresh including milk required an ice...

Transition to Fall 2024 in Watertown CTToday, Sept 22, 2024 marks the official transition to Autumn and in a short period of time, the colors around us will make themselves visible.Still being warm and sunny, it was a shock to me this past week while playing my weekly round of golf with fellow seniors, to see a lone tree showing off for its neighbors. Its calendar is definitely off and when the rest are strutting their styles, this will be barren.Transition to Fall 2024 in Watertown CT

Friday Flags  The Golf Course at Crestbrook Park Watertown CTI play in a senior's league in Watertown CT every Wednesday morning along with 110 fellow golfers. It's a very large league and monopolize the course each week. Last week while making the walk to the 10th tee, I glanced over my shoulder at the pro=shop building. The flag in front was begging for my attention and I just had to accommodate. It was a perfect shot and with the blue sky and only a whisper of a cloud it stood out perfectly. It had to be an omen as my partner and I managed to take over first place, for the week at least. Some days all seems to align perfectly. Friday Flags at The Golf Course at Crestbrook Park Watertown CT

Friday Flags An Eagle Scouts Patriotic Efforts in Wolcott CTThis is a post that I have been waiting to offer and have had the photos for quite a while now.Wolcott CT is a small town and at an intersection on the East side near Frisby School sits a small center island. It is also near the senior center and the police station.Part of the island included 4 stones, each adorned with the site where the planes that struck our cities on 911.To help with the cost, the scout offered memorial bricks that form the base for the memorial.Ther are also some benches where one can sit and just say a prayer and offer thanks that the events of that day were not worse. There is a small sign on the island that clearly requests that no advertising be placed on the site, and an empty area across the road has ...

I have sharing what I remember most about 9/11 here on ActiveRain since 2012, and have made a commitment to share this memory each and every year on September 11, so today once again I am honoring my commitment with this blog. September 11, 2001 is a day I will never forget!  It is a day forever imprinted on my heart and mind.   September 11, 2001 is a day each of us has a special reason why this day will forever be remembered.  September 11, 2001 is a day we will not only forever remember the vicious attack on our country, but also a day to honor those who lost there lives.  It is a day for us to reflect on the memories, and thoughts which went through our mines as the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded 20 years ago. Below is my special memory of that day, it is an event which hit ...

Labor Day this year in CT is a bright, sunny day for a second year in a row, which means a great day for all the Labor Day plans that have been made.  For me the only thing I have planned for today is to just get some extra sleep and rest. Normally we plan on having the family over and putting some food on the grill.  But now that my two sons live in different states, it is just my wife and I.  So we are going to keep it simple and put a rack of St Louis style ribs on the grill, and enjoy a late lunch, early dinner together. I hope that each and everyone of you spend this Labor Day doing what you enjoy, you have earned it.  Whatever you do make sure this is a safe and happy Holiday for you and your family!!! Happy Labor Day 2024!!!

An Afternoon at the Prospect CT Sock Hop and Car Last weekend was the sock Hop and Car show in the center of Prospect CT, and it was a rousing success. Over 850 cars of all types were there and the procession of people viewing the cars was nonstop.Ther were all types of cars and trucks and several special interest autos that gathered a lot of attention. To me, this 1911 Packard Model 50 was the attention grabber as it was found in a barn in Greenwich CT and originally had been purchased by Jacob Ruppert, owner of a brewing company and a baseball team called the Yankees. It was a National Prize winner at the AACA show in Hershey PA as well.here were a[[ manner of classics from the 50's, 60's and 70's. One car that had a large following was a 58 Corvette that was still owned by the original...

Friday Flags in Waterbury, CT Zip Code 06705Making a drive through the East End of Waterbury to get to an appointment gave me an opportunity stop and get a photo in front of a mini-plaza.The flag was enjoying the breeze as I was driving by sort of a tease for me. By the time I stopped, I have become very patient with my flags and as I made my chant to the wind gods, my patience was rewarded.A perfect wave to share on m post.
