Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is an event that has become a tradition. The Winter Carnival began in 1914, 29 years after Steamboat Springs was founded, this was an event that started to help with enduring the cold and sometimes too lengthy winters in Routt County. The event is historically held every year in the second week in February no matter what the weather conditions are brought to us by “Mother Nature.” Sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club to assist athletic programs, the Winter Carnival is produced by volunteer efforts. As is true with so many events in Steamboat Springs, the volunteers facilitate and coordinate the Winter Carnival solely as a service to the community. In its early years, a handful of events included ski jumping and cross country ski races....

The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory located in downtown Steamboat Springs on 624 Lincoln Avenue - just look out for the teddy bear outside. They are famous for its amazing selection of old fashioned caramel apples. They all start with a crisp, green Granny Smith apple smothered with thick and chewy hand made caramel, then dipped in a variety of yummy toppings for a "just right" combination of tart and sweet. Some of my most favorite apples: Apple Pie - Dipped in white chocolate and layered with cinnamon and sugar; Pecan Bear - Like a turtle on a stick. Layered with pecans, milk and white chocolate; Avalanche - Rolled in Rice Krispies, and topped with peanut butter, white and milk chocolate; Worms and Dirt - Great for Kids! White chocolate layered with Oreo cookies and gummy worm. Anoth...

On November 29th, 2010 in Steamboat Springs we celebrated opening day and the 20th Annual tradition of Scholarship Day, which we set a record of $76,665 for the Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) Scholarship Fund from specially priced tickets. Way to go! This year's opening day was an incredible season opener and helped the tone for a season that has already seen more than 111" of Champagne Powder snow. We're so thankful to have such a great Steamboat Ski Area that continues to contribute so much to the community and the Winter Sports Club. Thanks to our wonderful visitors and community to help everyone out. The Winter Sports Club has so much heritage behind Steamboat, where no other town in North America has produced more winter Olympians than Steamboat Springs, a record of 79 and counting. T...
