Now in Steamboat, the Valley is starting to bloom with beautiful colorful tulips, the grass is starting to turn green, the snow is melting rapidly and the Yampa River is flowing heavily. Nature is starting to come out of hybernation, the Ranches in Steamboat are showing life again with the cattle and their babies. Mt. Werner is still covered with snow, not to many brown spots yet, so that means you still have time to hike up early in the morning to get those last runs of the year in, it's not too late! : )   What to do in Steamboat during Mud Season either as a visitor or a local: Biking on your favorite trails, along the Yampa Valley Core Trail and much more. Hiking on your favorite trails, along Fish Creek Falls while viewing the falls pouring out from a heavy winter season. Movie nig...

There's a mistaken perception among many buyers that they should buy a property that is bank owned, in foreclosure or a short sale. If you don't buy a distressed property, you are missing out on "a steal' at least the best deals available. But what you need to remember as a buyer is WHY you are buying the property. Will it be your home or is it a financially sound investment with a good return? Do the numbers add up and does it have all the features that you are looking for? Now I'm not saying that buying a distressed home is a bad idea. What I'm saying is if you are a buyer you shouldn't get so distracted with buying "the deal" that you purchase something that doesn't meet your desires or needs. Don't narrow your search to just distressed properties. There are many non-distressed sell...

No doubt, it's been a wet spring in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Seems we've had snow or rain almost every day for the last month. We usually have some great sun shine this time of year but winter is just not ending.  What's rain down in town is snow on the hills. So not only is the water table and rivers rising everyday, but the snow pack on the surrounding mountains keep going up too.      So the rivers are high and the snow hasn't even begun to melt. And with record snow this year, that could spell trouble.  If the weather turns warm, which it should any day now, the snow will melt and water will flow. And there's not enough space in the already high rivers for this much water. The rivers are already flowing like Charlie's chocolate factory slosh. They are fast and brown and looking ...

When you thinks of Colorado, what comes to mind? The Rocky Mountain, wide open spaces, cowboy hats, aspen trees, or maybe, something western. Steamboat Springs locals and loyalists are proud of Steamboat’s genuine western charm and ranching roots. Our western heritage is as much of the town’s charm as the beauty of the mountains and open spaces. For many years the popular decorating theme has been the ‘authentic rustic western’ look of log beds, Indian rugs, wrought iron lamps, etc. A signature of the old west and remote mountain living which many visitors expect to fulfill their fantasy of being in the remote Colorado, Rocky Mountains. What I have noticed in the past several years is a shift, or rather an attraction from the traditional ‘old west’ décor to a more modern and contemporar...

Working in the high mountain resort community of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, one thing that’s clear today, buyers of real estate today, at least in Ski-Town U.S.A, are users. It’s skiers, hikers, golfers, fly-fishers, people that just love Steamboat and spending time in Northwest Colorado. Gone are the days where investors are looking to make a quick buck. I’m not saying real estate is not a good investment, but the assured return on the investment is still unknown. As a realtor in Steamboat Springs, I get asked this question a lot, “should I buy in Steamboat”? It’s really an easy answer and goes something like this: if you love coming to Steamboat Springs and spending time here, and you plan on doing it for several years, then yes, buying real estate in Steamboat is a good idea. If yo...

The Steamboat Ski Area has big plans are brewing for this summer’s phase of the multiyear, $20 million redevelopment project at the base of Steamboat Ski Area. While recent summers have focused on public improvement projects such as traffic roundabouts, underground utility preparation, earthwork and snowmelt mains, the taxpaying public is on the brink of seeing the most visible and talked-about payoffs of the base area redevelopment. In short, the promenade and Burgess Creek work are scheduled for completion this summer. And Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. is planning to build a permanent stage next to it, in Gondola Square, according to discussions last week... To Read the entire article click on Promenade, creek daylighting scheduled for Steamboat Base Area.

Steamboat Springs in the Spring Season is absolutely gorgeous. The wildflowers start to bloom, the rivers are starting to clean theirselves after the winter Champagne Powder while fish start to bite. Locals and guests are visiting their bikes once again and taking the hiking shoes for a stroll around Steamboat. The weather couldn't be more perfect while the bluebird sky shows through almost everyday with the lovely warm Colorado sunshine, you really can't complain. You start to hear the birds chirping along with seeing sightings of bears starting to come out after a long winter hybernation. You never really can predict weather in Steamboat that's why I love living here, the mountains are truly amazing. We've all been on those roller-coasters that once it starts you just want it to end. It's a right of passage. A necessary experience.   The few weeks between the powder fluffed ski season in ski town U.S.A. and the actual appearance of daffodils and green grass can be that long, arduous roller-coast that never ends.  Living in Steamboat Spring, Colorado right now is just hard. We're right in the middle of that transition between winter and spring. Between snow blowing and mowing the lawn. Between wearing layers and wearing t-shirts.  One day it's sunny and 67 degrees and we're riding bikes and fishing in the Yampa River. The next we're scraping ice off our windows and driving 18 MPH again to get to the office. It's 18 degrees right now and snowing. WHEN WILL THIS END!!! But it does end...

Spring in Steamboat.  Um, isn’t this everyone’s favorite time of year?  The Steamboat Chamber came up with 5 fantastic (literally make us jump up and down clapping) things about Steamboat in the spring! Groomer days.  Enough said really, but I can’t think of anything more thrilling than throwing myself down perfectly fresh corduroy, regular or fakie, on to any run off the Sunshine Lift.  After all, there’s a reason the Sunshine area has its name, and the spring definitely shows it off! Spring means sunshine, sunshine means goggle tans!  Oh, and more importantly (but not by much), longer lift hours.  Extended hours on lifts such as Christie Peak and Elkhead means more runs for everyone! The Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series.  It’s fantastic, it’s free. Après Ski.  Let’s face ...
