Fishing Report, East Portal, Montrose County, Colorado. The fishing was good for Rainbow Trout, and all the fish were around 16 inches. They are just beautiful and very red. Large Brown Trout are also there, but we didn't catch any. Small flies around #16 or 18 is what's working. It'll soon be time for the stone fly hatch and then all the fish should be taking larger dry flies. Fishing is restricted to flies and lures only. All Rainbows must be returned to the water, but you can keep up to four Brown Trout. Even if you aren't into fishing, the scenery is wonderful. The East Portal is part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area, but you access the area from the entrance to The Black Canyon National Park. The road into the area is something. It's a 16% grade going down along the Black ...

The Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park...An Awesome Gorge. That's what the park brochure says, and it's true. Hidden outside of Montrose, Colorado in a remote location is this amazing hole in the ground. It's called 'Black' because the canyon walls are so steep and sheer and the canyon is so narrow that it gets very little sunlight. There is no experience like walking to the edge of an overlook and looking down into this 'black' hole. On a calm day you can hear the river below roaring along it's winding course. That's the Gunnison River you can see. This picture was taken from the South Rim. It's the most visited rim of the park. It would take you half a day to drive around the canyon to the North Rim. There is no bridge between the two rims. Yet the canyon is so narrow you coul...

Let's Stop The Insanity and The Catering to People With Over Sensitive Sensibilities. A couple of weeks ago, some of you read my blog about a local garden center and their funny saying on their sign. Today I stopped by the garden center, because one of my clients works there. I was told they took down the cute saying, because some customers complained about it. Now does this offend you? It made me laugh out loud. A friend of mine saw the sign and was excited as well...she told me it reminded her to wet her plants. So there. Not only is it cute, but it's a nice reminder to take care of your spring garden. Camelot Gardens and Gifts is truly your one stop garden center. If they don't have it, then you don't need it. Whether you are looking to down size your garden, or looking for more room...
