In the final blog entry in our Child Proofing and Pet Proofing your Home series, we want to go over the simple virtue of preparation. In Highlands Ranch property management, there is no shortage of items that require preparation. The whole month is a series of checkmarks and deadlines. There are many things that happen outside of these borders, and it is necessary to be prepared to handle a situation at a moment’s notice. You can apply that reasoning and state of mind to your children’s and dog’s safety. You can work very hard to prevent accidents, but there is no way to stem the tide permanently. There are ways to be prepared, as well as not make the same mistakes twice. With certain times you may look at a certain item, and after it I was in your home, you can feel foolish for not pre...

In the ongoing journey to fully childproof and pet proof your home you may overlook many areas that require attention.  No number of guides you read online can prepare you for that one item you miss.  But responsible parents and pet owners never make the same mistake twice.  Still, why wait for the mistake?  Here is a good tip to get ahead of it.Chewing is one of the ways that both children and pets can have gone wrong without proper supervision, reflexes, response time and preparation .  The chief culprit is eating the wrong thing, either something that should not be eaten, too much of something that can be eaten, or when the child and the dog trade on the things they normally chew with.  Usually want to keep those two separates.  So, we know all the liquids and foods that are not to b...

If you are still being cautious with the reopening of society, there are still several ways to continue to fill the time in ways that are not limited to going outside. If you are no stranger to online events by now, none of this should come off as surprising. For food lovers right now, who do not think they will be trying to seek out a new hidden restaurant gem in the coming months, you might have one alternative that will really help. MasterClass has many branches they offer, and the most popular one is the famous chef series. Learning how to make the fanciest dish in town by yourself will afford you a lifelong skill. Any new parent understands the importance of puppy proofing or child proofing their home. All families with kids who are getting older have already taken the steps necessary to maintain the safety of their home. But if you could use a reminder, here is one of the areas that matters most: Toys. Toys for dogs and children can look interchangeable at first glance. They are both colorful, usually cartoon characters, and can usually withstand some punishment through chewing or getting dragged everywhere. When it comes to choosing the toys for both your pets and children, you must consider safety as the priority. The way to ensure it will be fine for either of them, check age requirements. Age appropriate toys will not have small enough parts for children to swallow, and for dogs you may want ...

Local events are on a case by case basis right now.  Looking back at our Highlands Ranch property management community blog during this time last year, the summer is in full swing with many different things going on.  There was no shortage of things to do, or places to go, or live events and concerts to see.  Highlands Ranch seems to be almost completely open, with the one notable absence of the movie theaters.  AMC, one of the most popular theater chains in the world, has only expressed tentative plans to reopen in July.  The Highlands Ranch AMC 24 is a staple to the local community, and an entertainment hub that thrives in summer. Having no new movie releases and the first two months of the official summer movie season postponed is a strange feeling.  One hopes that in July, not only ...

As many of you are already aware, lockdown restrictions have been lifted in all states and individual cities.  Whether your favorite restaurant is now open for dine in seating may vary from county to county, but for the most part you should be able to visit any establishment you were unable to before.  We just wanted everyone to make sure they are still complying with stated rules for each business establishment.  Hair salons have a very strict procedure, including wearing over ear masks, temperature checks, washing tools in between clients, no beard trimming, and no kids under a certain age.  There is also a limit to the number of people who can be inside a business at one time.  If you have gone anywhere with this rule in place in the last three months you know how this plays out.  Y...

It is now officially summer in Highlands Ranch, and it seems that June ushers in the 90-degree days as soon as it can. Now that summer is here, the Highlands Ranch property management market should see a late uptick in rental interest and number of people moving. There is an element of pent up demand from the last three months with everything locked down now slowly beginning to reopen. Many people were still moving during that time, but as restrictions are relaxed many can feel more comfortable with an extensive house search. The important thing to remember is to practice the same guidelines that every open establishment is mandating across the board. If there are unique rules for certain showings you must follow them. Some houses are requiring only masks, while others are requiring the...

One look at the Highlands Ranch Community Association calendar and you will see a host of summer events that have been canceled for months now. As society gradually re-opens, events begin to become available. There are a majority of them that will stay canceled, as their very nature is not conducive to large crowds and people packed in together. Any events that can adapt to social distancing measures or can be distributed online will be done. We would like to resume the Highlands Ranch property management local events watch and bring attention to any events that those who deem their own personal risk to be low would like to attend. The first has been a staple of every summer, the Farmer’s Market. Luckily, as an outdoor event, in a wide-open space with everyone wearing masks, this can ope...

Make sure your home is always pet friendly and kid friendly. Home is supposed to be where you feel safest, and the little ones and the furry ones need to be safe. Here are the areas where safety usually needs an upgrade. In most of our Highlands Ranch property management homes, Tenants usually have one or the other. So there have been a variety of ways that people child and pet proof their homes. Mostly the tenants will do that themselves, as everyone’s needs are different. For Eating and Drinking you all know, children and animals have a bad habit of eating and drinking foods of substances they should not. You must keep a close eye on how all dangerous liquids and chemicals are being stored. Make certain that cleaning supplies, medications, and other chemicals are in places like the bat...

Many states have eased a lot of COVID-19 restrictions as of the first of this month. Number of new cases in many areas have leveled or dropped off slightly, but regulations vary and social distancing should continue to be a priority if possible. In terms of the national market, in March, the Pending Homes Sales index of contracts signed on existing homes dove by 20.8%. When those contracts were counted as closings in April, a similar drop occurred in Existing Home Sales. We are waiting for data from May to see where we are now. With rates at historic lows still, there is a lot of refinance activity right now. This has managed to modestly improve purchase demand from the extremely low levels in Mid-April. The Mortgage Bankers Association has reported a 12% bump in purchase applications a...

We are sure you have seen all the photos in New York City, of parks and beaches absolutely covered in people without masks. It was the first great spring weather day and although New York City is the epicenter of the virus outbreak in the US, people seemed to not mind or notice much. We can all recall photos of crowded beaches back in March, where people were easy to pass judgement on anyone taking advantage of the weather. The same lens is being applied to these new photos in New York. We urge people to still take their level of risk assessment seriously when dealing with re-openings of the parks in your local cities. One look at some of the space in Central Park, and you would be driven to find a different spot or maybe forgo the park for one day. Granted, New York is very populace wi...

While it may come as a relief that we can begin to resume life as normal, you must still be careful. The threat of transmission of COVID-19 is still present and has not changed much in the last few weeks. We urge everyone to remember that the lockdown was a strict measure to flatten the curve and prevent the ICU wards of our hospitals to be overrun. We have achieved that, but until better testing is present, better understanding of antibodies and an actual vaccine or antiviral treatment, COVID-19 will still be a part of everyone’s life. That all being said, sectors of the economy must begin to reopen in a safe and limited capacity so that we may ease into a full reopening of society. If you have received emails from your local hair stylists, tattoo parlors, restaurants you will know tha...

The turning of the season is always a welcome change during the year. In Highlands Ranch property management this ushers in the shifting gears into the busy season. At this point in the year we are usually much busier, but due to the pandemic the rental market has been largely stilted. Make no mistake, people still need to move, and are still looking. It has not affected that aspect of the market. It has mostly targeted people’s willingness to see a property in person. This is problematic because it is hard to pay a security deposit and sign a lease when you have only seen pictures and a virtual tour. There are many subjective elements that photos simply can’t convey, so people seem to be being a little pickier. The same can be said for the real estate market. Properties have been linge...

Next week most places around the country are trying their first phase at reopening society. Our Highlands Ranch property management office will remain closed to the public and largely distributed to working online for at least another 2-3 weeks. It may be inviting to want to rejoin a normal lifestyle, and we certainly can’t stay locked down forever or even for the rest of the year, however the reopening of society must be done carefully and with strict adhesion to guidelines put forth. To just continue life as normal before COVID-19 happened would be foolish, and quite frankly, not possible. We are making sure our office stays apart for the time being, since there is always a risk of exposure. The problem with a re-opening where everyone would like to rush out and resume their daily liv...

Most people have been pretty used to their quarantine routine by now, and most people have become increasingly creative with how to fill the time for their little ones. We have many families in our Highlands Ranch property management portfolio who have shared some of the tips that have helped keep their family together and mostly sane. Family fun for extended hours has become both a blessing and a curse for many families and here’s how they are filling the time. Someone has said they made an obstacle course throughout their entire home using painter’s tape and cushions.   They had the course extend all three levels of the house and it kept the kids (ages 4 and 7) occupied for an entire day. This can be crucial for those juggling working from home, with small kids, and potentially kids n...

Since we are all bunkered down for the remainder of the month, with a large question mark looming over May, it seems appropriate to figure out how to fill the time this April. Many people working from home are in their 4th week of quarantine and should have a handle on the daily life by now. If you have exhausted many options that were fun a few weeks ago, here are some recommendations for further activities to help bolster local life. After all, we still want to be a Highlands Ranch property management community event watch, even in times where events have been canceled out into July. The biggest way to support your local restaurants, anywhere in the state, is to first and foremost order pick up or delivery options. Restaurants are handling orders with minimal staff, and have contactles...

Virtual happy hours and long form conversations dominate our free nights. Lucky for us, Highlands Ranch property management can take a breath between the hours of 8pm to 11pm each night, which allow us to conduct many video calls with family and friends who we might not have conversed with as frequently before the big shift. Those of you who have been breaking boundaries with friends and family who don’t normally sit down and chat through video, may be thinking what is next? Well of course we are scheduling repeat calls throughout the month, but will we stay consistent on these when things inevitably turn back to normal? One hopes anyway. People now are itching to still meet up with people, while staying 6 ft away and taking precautions that may seem like overkill. I argue that those pe...

As we continue to adjust to a lifestyle that has no current end date, many people are beginning to feel somewhat helpless. We want to pass on to anyone who is not adversely affected by COVID-19 a few tips to help out without leaving the house. First, it is brutal that many of our fellow Americans have had their jobs and lives upended by the crisis. The fear of getting sick is one thing, but the ability to return to work is a problem that looms over many. If you are still able to work from home these tips are directed towards you. If you can donate at all, please consider doing so. You can donate to non-profits that are struggling, buy gift cards to your local businesses that you support, such as hair salons and restaurants, and you can prop up your local independent movie theaters with ...
