Architect Charles Deaton designed the "Sculptured House" on Genesee Mountain just outside Denver in Colorado, in 1963. Who would have guessed my friends, Larry and Toni Winkler would someday own this piece of history. I must admit, when Larry called me to tell me he had bought the "Sleeper house". I wasn't overly surprised. Larry is a guy of many talents; one is getting and buying unique items. In 1973 the film, Sleeper (Woody Allen's) was filmed here at the Sleeper House. Thus the name the " Sleeper house". The home is located about 15 miles west of Denver, the home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a four-car garage and a media room. It is also know as the Sculptured house. it is truly a piece of Denver and now the Winkler's.. Congrats Larry and Toni.... Sleep tight in your Sleeper h...

I watched this news on our local network and was speechless. First of all: I don't know the whole timeline and it is easy to judge. I did, however, find that not ALL offers were presented... "The Colorado Division of Real Estate is investigating a Jefferson County real estate agent following a 9Wants to Know investigation into a transaction where a Realtor didn't bring an offer to the seller and then turned around and bought the building at a foreclosure auction. 9Wants to Know discovered Realtor Mark Dyson bought a property he listed at foreclosure, turned around quickly and sold it to a buyer who had made two previous offers before the building went to foreclosure. Golden - Sunshine & Home of the Jolly Rancher You’ll have a hard time finding a more enjoyable area in Jefferson County than Golden real estate. Golden, which originated during Pike’s Peak Gold Rush, started out as a mining camp. At one time, Golden was the capital of the Colorado Territory. It wasn’t until 1862 that Colorado moved its capital 15 miles to the east to the city of Denver. It’s that proximity to Denver that is, in part, what makes Golden property so desirable. Sure, Golden homes are part of a small community with a real sense of neighborhood and friendship. But it’s also within striking distance to all that Denver has to offer in the way of entertainment, recreation, education and the arts. Truly, this town is a wonderful mix of small town life and modern amenities. There ...

Christmas Parade in Golden, Colorado If you don't live in Golden, Colorado, doesn't this sign on Washington Street make you feel welcome?!  I'm up in Colorado to visit grandkids, and today I went with them and their Daddy to the Christmas parade in Golden.  We didn't know that the parade was scheduled today; serendipity is a wonderful thing! Behind me, Table Rock seemed to preside over the proceedings. Santa was riding on a motorcycle, and his sidecar was filled with treats and goodies for the children along the route.  Carolers dressed in 19th century garb strolled the avenue, singing Christmas carols like Silent Night, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, and Jolly Old King Wencelas.  They were more than happy to stop for photos.  :) It wouldn't be Colorado without horses.  This young horse...

Recently, I helped out with a fundraiser at Barnes & Noble Denver West for the Golden Community Choir.  Lots of folks associated with the Choir came out to entertain shoppers with solo songs, duets and even a large group with the Childrens choir.  Homemade cookies, breads and cakes were provided by choir members, and gift wrapping was available for any purchase made.  All in all, it was a fun day!  The fund-raising part came by simply wearing a sticker that identified you as a supporter of the Golden Community Choir.   B&N generously donated a portion of all purchases made to the Choir. However, one shopper made a comment that made me think.  He  remarked that there were better causes to support than a community choir, and therefore he refused to participate.  Remember,  he was not aske...

Community Life Ranks High With Homebuyers Courtesy of Jeffoeth When considering the purchase of a new home, whether it be first-time homebuyers or veteran buyers, many times the deciding factor in home selection is the community in which the home is located.  Today's buyers are looking to capitalize on the depressed housing market with low pricing and record low mortgage rates, but even more important to buyers is the area around a home. Let's face it, home deals are abundant, between foreclosures, short sales and sales due to job losses.  Now the key to finding the right home at the right place is to carefully research the community. What makes a good community in which to live? That will depend on who you are, and where you are in life.  If you are just starting out, don't have kids a...

This snapshot of the real estate market in Golden, Colorado provides info on homes for sale, under contract, sold in the past six months, and days on market using information taken directly from Metrolist on November 4, 2010, for single family homes. Absorption rate is an estimate of how long it would take all the houses currently on the market to sell, if no new ones were added, based on how many sold in recent months. It’s an artificial number, of course, but a good indicator of market trends. I think it’s one of the most useful statistics we can be aware of. I believe absorption rate is more valid than ‘days on market’, because DOM is quite skewed by short sales, which stay on the market considerably longer. If you want to know more about your neighborhood between Denver and Boulde...

In 1973 the "Sleeper" movie was filmed here in Colorado at this home located just 15 miles west of Denver on a cliff overlooking Denver and the Continental Divide. This home was purchased in 1999 for $1.3 million.   With 30 years of being vacant, there was plaster missing, broken windows and snow inside the home.    This new buyer added 5,000 square feet and fixed the home up, investing millions. In 2006 the home was purchased by the current owner for $3.43 million and is behind in payments facing foreclosure on November 10, 2010. This is an opportunity to purchase a piece of history with over 7,000 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms at least  3 levels with a circular elevator, and a 4 car garage.    There is 5,000 sq feet on the deck for optimum views and entertainment.     With o...

PBA Southwest Region Golden Bowl Challenge : Golden Colorado We were introduced to bowling by our grandfather when we were very young, I think I was probably six and Kathy was four, and we loved it!  We spent every Saturday morning at the Friendly Hills Bowling Alley in Whittier California, where we grew up, bowling in a league with our brothers and friends.  And I have to say we were both really, really good!  We don't bowl as much these days, but we both used to sport averages in the 160's.  I was even the California State Champion once when I was a teen.  That's why I had to include this blog.
