NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com)  Taken from CNN.com:The number of foreclosures soared in 2007, with 405,000 households losing their home, according to a report released Tuesday. That's up 51 percent from the 268,532 homes that were repossessed in 2006. Total foreclosure filings soared 97% in December alone compared with December of 2006, according to RealtyTrac, an online seller of foreclosure properties. For the year, total filings - which include default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions - grew 75%. More than 1 percent of all U.S. households were in some stage of foreclosure during 2007, up from 0.58 percent the year before. "There are parts of the country where we're seeing many more bank repossessions," said Rick Sharga, a spokesman for RealtyTrac. "People are flat out lo...

Wrapping up 2007 and ready to move onto 2008.  Market Statistics for December can be confusing - notoriously it is the slowest time of the year - but the Denver metro real estate market has had a healthier go of it than other parts of the nation.  The gloom & doom that the media is reporting - Well, like your mother always told you, don't believe everything you hear or read.  Yes, things have slowed a bit,  but we are fortunate to have a healty real esate market here in the South Denver area and I expect 2008 to only get better. Here are the AUS Aurora South numbers for December 2007 - Aurora South and parts of Centennial Aurora South - Residential Real Estate - Single Family Homes Total Active 1478Average Asking Price Price $235,712New Listings 401Listings Back on Market 163Sold 243Ave...

If you live in Highlands Ranch, western Centennial or Littleton - or anywhere else nearby - here is a great find for you when craving salty chips, yummy margaritas and smothered burritos - Los Dos Potrillos.  Located in a somewhat hidden location in a Centennial strip mall (just on the other side of County Line Road from Highlands Ranch) - Los Dos Potrillos has surprisingly great food at reasonable prices.  If you are heading out on the weekend, be prepared to wait a bit or you can call ahead to put your name on the list - but even a wait isn't so bad in the bar area.  There are many Mexican beers to choose from or a margarita will lessen the wait.  There are not a ton of restaurants in the area, so to have a place so close that is so great is a real treat.  My family's favorites consis...

Real Estate Market Reports for July 2007 - South Suburban Central - STATISTICS FOR HOME SALES IN THE AREA There are fewer overall homes for sale available in this area than areas just south of here.  There seems to be pretty good balance of inventory as well.  Still, days on market are nearly 3 months and demand in this area is a bit less than areas south.  What does this mean, well it means pricing and condition are still major factors in getting your home sold.  Pricing in Greenwood Village, Englewood, Centennial and Littleton is key.  Although the inventory balance is good, the pool of potential buyers for this area is less than south and therefore, days on market still remain relatively high.    This report includes all areas of the MLS known as SSC : parts of Littleton, parts of Ce...

As many of you know, I am a Denver native.  Born here, raised here, live here now.  There was about a 10 year period that I was not here, when I was in my twenties, but other than that - I have been right here all along.  Surprising to many, I was not a skier until recently.  I didn't learn to ski until my oldest child was 5.  My wife is a skier and she really wanted to get the kids up on the slopes, and so I joined the skiing bandwagon.  Although I love the big resorts as well, I have become completely spoiled at the smaller, lesser known and less crowded resorts.  As far as I am concerned, they are just as good.  For a beginner or a family with young children, they are fantastic.  I personally skied for the very first time at a smaller resort, Sol Vista.  There is something to be said...

Denver Metro Area - Recreation - Try some Heat Escape & Skate  It seems that almost every day this week has been close to 100 degrees.  Its hot.  Need an escape?  Do what we do, skate.  Many of you know that my family is pretty involved in hockey.  One of my children is a youth hockey player and the other skates sometimes too.  So we look at our summer skating time as not just practice & something to do - but an escape from the heat.  I even strap on the skates from time to time and I haven't fallen down in quite some time. We skate fairly often for free skate at the South Suburban Ice Arena in Centennial.  It only takes us about 12 minutes to get there from our home in Highlands Ranch.  They have many lessons available for all ages and abilities and also have a great Learn to Hockey sk...

What about Views for My New Home? Mountain? City?  I get so many home buyers and potential real estate clients in the Denver suburbs asking me to help find them a home with mountain views.  Why not?  Living in Colorado with such beauty to admire I can't blame them at all.  And some even desire that double bonus of the downtown view or city lights.  So the search begins.  Some people want to buy a new construction home.  We go out to the home sales office and find a nice floor plan and then decide on the lot.  The buyers want views from their home and the builder shows them lots with views.  Along with that come hefty lot premiums, of course.  This is where I remind my customers that "views" now may be partially if not mostly blocked in the future as construction progresses.  Some lots m...

Denver burbs town talk...Centennial AirportLocated in what we call "City Close" Centennial Airport is tucked away in southeast Arapahoe County.  When it opened in 1967, this location was considered to be far enough away as to not disturb anyone, but close enough to downtown Denver to be very convenient.  Today Centennial Airport is one of the busiest private jetports in the world.  Every 80 seconds a plane takes off or lands, none are scheduled flights.  Centennial consistently ranks the second busiest airport in the nation among airports that are not certified for airline services. When compared with all airports, including LAX, Chicago's O'Hare and New York's LaGuardia it is #25! The airport is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Convenience is of utmost importance to executives flying...
