If I look out my living room window, I see a beautiful mesa. On the other side of that mesa is a place commonly known as Chandler. In the early 1900's a Coal Mining company called Chandler Mining moved into a small location south of Canon City. Towns such as Brookside, Brewster, Mexico, Rockvale, Williamsburg and Coal Creek all mined coal, gold and oil. The three later towns still exist today. As a ‘company' town Chandler built the rail road tracks into the town. The train carried in the very basics of necessity including the buildings that would be homes, stores and the school. Some of these buildings are still in the area although not in their original locations. Houses were sold off and moved into the neighboring towns. Today the only occupants of Chandler are deer, elk, coyote, hawk... 03/11/2007
