TGIF in Your Backyard in Carlsbad ~ Summer 2021 ~ The TGIF Concerts in the Parks have been a popular staple of the summer entertainment season for many years in Carlsbad. Typically there are 9 free outdoor concerts in 4 of our best parks on consecutive Fridays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The park venues changed a few years ago when they added Alga Norte Community Park to the mix, making it 4. The very popular TGIF Concerts featured a wide range of music (jazz, latin, blues, 80s, and much more) and some pretty impressive bands with regional and national reputations, and were typically attended by a couple thousand people or so. In 2020, as with so many area events, the TGIF Concert series was sadly canceled.  But this summer there is a new option to get you in the mood for when the TGIF Conce...

This is not what I signed up for nor what I believe in. Yes, I've been in the affordable housing arena for over 3 decades and have worked with thousands of seniors and entry level homeowners that are looking for lower cost living solutions. One of those is to assist people who have the appropriate size lots to put an Accessory Dwelling Unit on their property. But just for the record what you see in this link is not what I stand for in any way, shape or form. This is pushing the envelope beyond the pale and is the beginning of the end for our neighborhoods and our quality of life. I do believe that property/homeowners have the right to create an additional living space on the earth they own beneath their feet. There has been a paradigm shift in the way we choose to live out our lives. Ma...

Solar Panels at the Vista Farmers Market We were at the Vista Farmers Market this morning for the first time in a very long time. It's one of the best farmers markets around in our opinion, and a favorite of ours, and we've missed it. The Vista Farmer Market is held at the Vista Courthouse Complex off Melrose just south of the 78 freeway (if you are around on Saturday mornings from 8:00 am until 12 noon - their current hours - it's well worth attending). The Vista Courthouse Complex, home of the San Diego Superior Court, has a large parking lot that accommodates the market and all the shoppers. They installed a large collection of solar panels over the parking spaces some time ago.  The solar panels serve multiple purposes - first and foremost providing solar energy to the complex (and ...

Wordless Wednesday: Seagulls If you've spent any time at the beach you'll know that seagulls are the most common seabird (while I'm not positive, after decades of beach-going I think I'm right). Seagulls are pretty interesting to watch. They tend to be communal birds, gathering in groups on the beach.  But when it comes to food, it's every gull for itself. Seagulls don't appear to have any understanding of the concept of sharing in any way, shape or form. You don't dare throw food on the beach, as you are sure to be surrounded, quickly, by squawking seagulls vying for that morsel. And the whole clan will be in hot pursuit of the lucky one grabbing the goody first. Years ago, on one of my many trips from Boston to LA to visit my daughter in college, we took a drive up the coast to Malibu...

We’ve all heard the phrase that real estate is local. Realtors use it often, and with good reason. Real estate markets vary widely, and making generalized statements about what the real estate market is doing can be risky. But we see that all the time in media reports…as if what’s happening in one area is a reflection of the housing market in another region. And reports often lag behind the reality of the market. It's certainly true these days. The talk about national averages suggests the same conditions exist in every housing market of the country, and we’re all the same. Or at least those not in the real estate business might draw that conclusion. Those in the know, know better! How often have we heard “it’s a sellers market” or “it’s a buyers market?”  But the real estate market is ...

FORBES Magazine &  CREST “BACKYARD” Homes  On ADA Accessible ADU’S We recently had the opportunity to speak with Forbes Magazine about ADA compliant Accessory Dwelling Units. At 75 years old and getting younger by the day this is naturally a very interesting and important topic that won't be going away anytime soon. There have been 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 for the past 10 years and another 10,000 a day for the next 10. Stepping on the heels of the Baby Boom Generation is the coming Mellineal Boom with another 80 or so million. This is a staggering 150 million people that will be reaching their golden years for decades to come.  Trends and social norms have changed since the '60's and the World War II "Greatest Generation" whose ultimate ambition was to cash out of their paid off m...
