Of all the places to get engaged, I had not considered a spot where falling to your death could be eminent. I mean, what is it with men and heights? I recall when my husband and I decided to get married, and he seemed a bit disappointed that it happened so organically and not at the top of the Eiffel Tower. But for some, it is very important where the question gets popped.Whatever happened to a romantic dinner at a very expensive restaurant and slipping the ring into a glass of champagne or into a slice of cake? Or, just getting up to use the restroom and then falling to one knee? You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Perfect Spot for a Marriage Proposal at Half Dome Summit in Yosemite.

I’m sure that most of you have read or at least heard of the book written by Gary Chapman titled “The 5 Love Languages”. It’s a great book and an easy read, I highly recommend it. When I read it I definitely had a few “aha moments” where some things about myself and past partners started making sense. Well, landlords also have love languages, and ways that they like to be shown love and it mirrors the love languages in the book in many ways as you will see below. 1. Clean Credit and Criminal History (Words of Affirmation) Nothing is better then running a prospective tenants credit and criminal reports and finding out that what they put on their application was truthful. These reports serve as your words of affirmation. This affirmation is a vital component to determining if this (tenant...

California Motorcycle Ride - Little Dragon - Hwy 49 (Coulterville, CA) Last month, Bob and I rode the Little Dragon, California's version of Tennesee's and North Carolina's famous Tail of the Dragon. The Tail of the Dragon is a popular destination for motorcycle riders and sports car enthusiasts worldwide and it consists of an 11-mile stretch of highway with a total of 318 turns. The Little Dragon is actually 5 miles longer than the Tail of the Dragon, but with only approximately 45 turns. Here is a photo of the Little Dragon that I took from the southernmost vantage point, Fremont's Fort: FREMONT'S FORT General John C. Fremont, 1813-1890, a noted military man, explorer, topographer, senator & businessman, Fremont was also a miner. He settled in Mariposa County living just outside Bear ...

Coulterville, CA - Magnolia Saloon & Grill Restaurant at Hotel Jeffery The Magnolia Saloon & Grill at Hotel Jeffery is a popular lunch stop destination for motorcycle riders who come to ride the Little Dragon, a 15-mile stretch of Hwy 49 between Coulterville, CA and Bear Valley, CA with fun twisties and wonderful views. Bob and I went on a group motorcycle ride from El Dorado Hills, CA down Highway 49 to the Little Dragon last weekend and it was a great day trip to start the Spring riding season! Established in 1851, the Magnolia Saloon is California's oldest operating saloon and even still has authentic pair of wooden saloon doors at the entry...and one of the best BBQ pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had! They also have a pool room and outdoor seating in a quaint courtyard setting. Th...

It has been a very long week for Vegas Bob, and I would like to wish you all a "Good Night" from a very beautiful Lake in the High Sierra's of Yosemite National Park in California.   If you look real close at the mountains in the background you might be able to see snow, over half of those mountains in the background are covered with snow. When this photograph was taken it was about 7:00pm with temperatures of 69 degrees, and there is no way VB was going to pitch a tent at this elevation with temps dropping down in the evening to 43 degrees.    Robert (Vegas Bob) Swetz  8-13-2011

Vegas Bob spent 6 days in Northern California to relax, rejuvenate, meditate and just take in the fresh air, cooler temperatures and beauty.  Most of our time was spent at Lake Tahoe playing in the clear cool waters, along the beaches, etc.  On our way home we stopped at Mono Lake in California, and we also drove into the East Side of Yosemite National Park. While we were at Lake Tahoe, Walker Lake, Mono Lake, Yosemite National Park VB took many photographs and videos like the one above.  I will be sharing these photographs & videos in the near future at Activerain, Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and other networks & websites.  Robert (Vegas Bob) Swetz  8-9-2011

(Slide Show contains 10 images)If your car has a sunroof when you first enter Yosemite National Park, it's time to open it.  Ditto for a convertible - put the top down.   At the park entrance gate, I hit the sunroof button, and simultaneously fresh pine air and sunshine flooded in.  On the road from Sacramento and through California Gold Country, I had been listening to the kicky tunes of Dire Strait's "On Every Street" album.  But at Yosemite, I thought it time to move on to the more reverent sounds of Luciano Pavarotti.  I cranked the volume up a tad.  There is nothing like the tones of Pavarotti's magnificent tenor voice ricocheting off massive mountain peaks, and the trunks of ancient Sequoias, to set the world straight again! At Yosemite, I had arrived early, before the park gatekee...

It's been said that Yosemite is the Crown Jewel of all America's National Parks.  Having been there on several occasions, I can attest to Yosemite's majesty.  However, several years of draught had turned down the water spigot on her magnificent waterfalls, and brought them to a summertime trickle.  Four years ago, I eagerly went with out of state visitors to show off Yosemite's grandeur, but found virtually no water plunging from atop Yosemite Falls.  It was very disappointing. But near the end of this long Northern California winter, laden with heavy rains and snowfall, I suspected facets and glimmer would return to Yosemite's waterfall bling once again.  When 3 days of rain and snowfall hit the area this past weekend, I knew I needed to drive the 160 miles to witness the wonders likel...

There's nothing quite like a vacation to make one start to watch the calendar and think of all the things they need to do before they go. Even when you live somewhere like we are lucky enough to live, a change of pace is immensely exciting.                                                                                          Camp 6 Employee HousingI've been lucky enough to live in some really nice places, and one of my favorites is Yosemite. When I lived there before, it cost me $5.95 a week for a shared tent and 3 meals a day at the employee cafeteria. I made $1.35 an hour and when I think of my favorite all time jobs, it is one of them. It was a coming of age for me with each new friend sharing experiences at a time in my life when...

With a telephoto lens I was able to capture this priceless photograph of George Washington? It would be quite amazing if this George was to pick this post up on the web and give me a comment back!  This is the Yosemite river that flows after Yosemite Upper & Lower waterfalls, (below) is a pic of Upper Yosemite Falls and if you ever see this Falls in person it is breath-taking!  The photo (below) is Lower Yosemite Falls and it is very hard to capture a photo because your camera gear gets very wet from the mist!                    And the last photo (below) is of the Valley of Yosemite National Park from a very far distance, and it doesn't look like Robert Swetz is the only one snapping photographs.  For more information on one of the most beautiful National Parks in the Country go to ....

Vegas Bob visits Yosemite National Park in California 5-16-2009  Saturday I spent most of day in Yosemite National Park in California, the last time I was there was back in 1974.  If you have never been to Yosemite you are really missing one of the most beautiful places in the World. The photograph (above) is around 5000 feet looking down at Yosemite Valley. If you look real close you can see what looks like a white line towards the back, that is a huge waterfall.  The photograph (below) is another shot of the valley and another waterfall.   In the photograph (below) there is a mountain on the right hand side of the tree, this is called (Half Dome). Millions & Millions of years ago this mountain was a (Full Dome) and the glaciers came through Yosemite and cut it in half with the water...

There's more to selling your house than placing a sign on the lawn and an ad in the paper,, if you want to get something close to market value for it, that is.. These two actions, no matter how large the sign and which paper, or papers, you use, will reach only a very small fraction of the people you will need to reach - compared to the wide coverage of a Multiple Listing Service (MLS).  Besides, in the MLS you reach prospective sellers - Professional Real Estate Agents - who scan those listings daily looking for a home that will fit the needs of someone on their prospective buyers' list.  It just might be yours. Don't get me wrong, you can sell it with that sign and that ad, if you're willing to drop the price enough.  Research shows that you can save about six percent by not paying a ...
