The pond at Countrywood Shopping Center, Walnut Creek CA, is a favorite sitting place for both young and old. Toddlers running around trying to catch the ducklings. Elderly resting in the shade on a wooden bench, people watchng. It's just one of the many place I like to go and do nothing, in Walnut Creek.     It really is as serene as it looks. It's  also a great place to sit and get inspired for my Blog, 365 Things to do in Walnut Creek CA. What do you think?

I commute a lot, so I like to listen to audio books. I began a new one this morning. The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner by David Bach. The author was recounting his meeting with his first Automatic Millionaire Homeowners, a couple in their 60's. They had been in their mid 20's when they bought their first home. Image my surprise when they began describing the only place they could afford to buy a home. A little town 20 miles further out than they wanted, called Walnut Creek CA.  I moved to Walnut Creek in the mid 70's so it was close to this same time. I can relate to their descriptions of Walnut Creek back then. It was such a quaint little town. Who knew it would become the boom it is now. They then shared something that really struck me. The home they found was no where near the drea...

This past Saturday, July 24th 2010, was the launch of "Life in a Day". Oscar-winning director, Kevin Macdonald is asking anyone that wants to participate, upload their own video to YouTube. He is planning on gathering film clips to document one day, as seen through the eyes of people around the world. The film will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. For more on this event click on "Life in a Day". I spent sometime yesterday filming a few things around Walnut Creek. What I don't use, I can share with you as part of my Blog, 365 Things to do in Walnut Creek CA. The deadline is July 31st. Join me in an incredible time capsule.

Growing up in Australia, I loved all the gardens and parks. That's probably one more thing I love about Walnut Creek. It has so many parks and gardens, just like back home.  it's hard to turn a corner or go into a neighborhood and not see one. In my quest to share 365 Things to do in Walnut Creek CA, I thought I would add some photos I've taken. Someone once said a pictures is worth... well, you know how it goes.   This weekend was a very fragrant weekend.           It was bright and sunny and warm without beeing too hot. Perfect for taking a stroll in a garden.

We all have busy lives. We have our To-Do lists and our calendars. We are so intent on getting all those things done, that we rush through each one just to get to the next one. Some days are worse than other. Imagine my delight when, right in the middle of going over the days To-Do's, my sweety said we were going to the movies for a date night. It brought me back to my senses. It's not about the To-Do's. it's about living life and enjoying it. We left for the Century 14 Theater in Downtown Walnut Creek, during daylight but by the time we left the theater, it was dark and all of downtown was lit up. It never ceases to delight me; the many faces of Walnut Creek. Last night I especially noticed the restaurants with their outdoor seating lights, the trees with their white twinkle lights lin...

Ever noticed how peaceful downtown is early in the morning. I was driving around taking random pictures to include in 365 Things to do in Walnut creek, CA when I noticed a bronze statue that I had seen numerous times but never paid that much attention to before. Without the distractions of the cars and the hustling shoppers, you notice so much more about your own hometown. I was curious about the statue, so I tried Googling it. I came up empty. Rather than keep searching, I thought I'd put it out there for anyone out there to share what they know about it. There's probably a plaque somewhere nearby, but you would think there'd be something on the internet. Bonus points for anyone who can shed some light, Rita

Fantastic Friday morning to all, Solid opening this morning with bonds.....but be careful! Core CPI (which is a measurement of inflation) came in at expectations. Consumers are focusing on paying off debt vs adding to savings. Consumer sentiment came in lower than expected. Rate Guard update Have a great weekend!

When was the last time you went to the library? Over the last decade or so, technology has brought the library to us. Before Google and the internet with it's search engines, the library was the go-to place. It used to be the community's "famiy room". Now with the new Walnut Creek Library and it's hi-tech amenities, works of art, and "marketplace", we've come full circle...at least, that's the idea. The Grand Opening is scheduled for July 17 2010 at 10 am Saturday morning. For more on this event:        http://newwclibrary.org/   This new Library began in 1991, 30 years after the dedication of the original Library in 1961. For more go to: http://walnutcreekhistory.info/timeline.php Does anyone have any photos of the Original Walnut Creek Library? I've looked but can't find any on the in...

I just love it here in Walnut Creek CA, and I want to spread the word about how great it is living here. I don't know everything there is to know about Walnut Creek because there is so much but I would love to learn more. For me everything begins with a good sunrise. So this blog should too.  Anyone know where the best spots are in Walnut Creek to watch the sunrise? For me, driving down Ygnacio Valley Rd towards Clayton, I've been blasted with some of the most spectacular sunrises. I'm not sure if I'm still in Walnut Creek by the time I'm hit by the view, but nature knows no boundaries. I recently found a wonderful photo of a Walnut Creek sunrise taken by Patrick Smith. He just now gave me permission to use it. Thank you Patrick. Here is the link to read more about it.  http://www.flick...
