ON THE ROAD AGAIN ... Arriving in Novato, CA So we have now completed one aspect of our road trip ... getting Scoop's (my late father) 4-Door Chevrolet Sedan to California for our son, Nick, and his wife, Cori.  We stayed in their condominium last night and spent some time together.  Today we moved to Sausalito to a seven-day private rental on the hill looking out over San Francisco Bay and the lights of San Francisco in the evening ... a great 2BR/2BA unit. So as I write this posting, we are only 15-20 minutes from our son ... but we wanted to give them some space as well.  We will see them many of the days we are in our rental since Christmas falls during this week.  We will also return to their condominium after our rental for four more nights. Today we found a CVS to take some film ...

I'm very excited to at last be paying a visit to Heath Ceramics in Sausalito this weekend.  Better yet, it's their annual 20% off sale.  I've been so drooling over their tile (my other favorite for tile is Walker Zanger with stores in Hayward & San Francisco). I'm thinking about new tile for a bathroom in need of upgrading and between these two places I should be able to find inspiration!  Both stores also sell seconds or discontinued tile, a great way to save a few bucks since their tile can be pricey but very high quality. As an aside (forgive me, I will occasionally digress):  when updating rooms in your home, it's typically the labor that is the most expensive cost.  It's so obvious when developers or home owners cheap out on material.  There is a time and place for Home Depot vs. ...

Sausalito real estate has had a tough year -average prices are down -34%. The only bright spot is the pace of condo sales, albeit at bargain levels. Year 2000 Census: The Census pegged the population of Sausalito at 7,330 with 4,533 total housing units-55% of which are condos-with 1.6 people per house, and a mean income of $124,000. Mean income data can tell us a lot about home prices. Are the implied average home prices in line with both Fair Value estimates, current average prices or historical prices? For instance: ▶ Estimated average 2009 household income for Sausalito is $167,000 ▶ Sausalito residents can support average prices around $1.2m ▶ Fair value estimate for average Sausalito SFR home prices is $1.5 ▶ '04-'09 historical prices for average Sausalito SFY is $1.55m ▶ Current ...
