The Santa Monica Place mall is now open and they have done a great job of taking advantage of its location near Santa Monica beach. The mall has been completely opened up and has attracted some upscale boutiques and the only Bloomingdales loft-style store outside Manhattan.  This Bloomies is truly exciting and itself has an open feeling. For the foodies there are plenty of great restaurants on the rooftop deck.  Two standouts are Sandia, upscale Mexican cuisine and Ozumo, contemporary Japanese.  Both restaurants are enormous and if today is any indication they, and the other dining places are going to do stellar business. They also took advantage of the existing popular Third Street Promenade with one entrance to the Mall being a continuation of that street. The ocean view from the roof...

I figured to share this. I drove by the mall on my way to the office and let me say that it was a madhouse!! Cars flooded everywhere, people filled the sidewalks...everywhere! Good news for Santa Monica's economy!! Unfortunately the weather is forecasted to be cloudy, drizzly and overcast for the weekend. But it's not stopping the tourism and shopping.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope your week has been a fast and productive one. Today, Santa Monica will experience a very high spike in traffic! Us locals are very familiar and have acclamated to the usual surge in Summer beach and tourism traffic. But, today will be very different....The Santa Monica Place will have it's Grand Opening this morning at 10am. The entire area will be a madhouse! I drove by yesterday and quickly realized that I should have driven around the madhouse because I was averaging 1mph and got home a half mile down the street in about a half hour :( I snapped this picture yesterday as I was stuck in the madness. Those guys in the blue shirts are your valet attendants. I would suggest using their service today! Here is some information I retrieved from the SM Place sit...
