Russian Hill Bookstore, a family-owned store in business since 1974 and one of San Francisco's legacy businesses, has recently moved two blocks south on Polk Street to a larger location. In an era where independent bookstores are struggling, it's great to see Russian Hill Bookstore flourishing and growing. Since they are open 10:00 - 10:00 every day, it's easy to stop by while shopping, or for sine after-dinner browsing. Here you'll find a wide array of both new and used books, a section for toys and games, a wide variety of cards, and many San Francisco-themed items perfect for gifts. You're invited to come to their grand opening party to help celebrate their new location at 2162 Polk Street. When: Sunday July 16, 2017 - 5:00 PMWhere: 2162 Polk Street, San Francisco (between Vallejo and ...

I'm fortunate to have Rachael and her wonderful Golden Retriever, Tanner, living a few short blocks away from us. Tanner is lucky that I love to walk, and if I'm not running a lot of errands or shopping, I often take him along on my explorations. One recent afternoon, after the rains had stopped for a while, we took a fast walk down Franklin Street to Lombard Street On the way back up Van Ness Avenue I decided to pop into my favorite candy store: The Candy Store on Vallejo Street where I occasionally treat myself to licorice! The best assortment of licorice ever - salty or sweet, hard or soft - it's all here at The Candy Store.Tanner knows a great place when he sees one!Tanner and I wish you all a Happy Sunday!

After a morning spent at my computer and on the phone, I hit the wall mid-afternoon. When I couldn't concentrate any more I decided to grab my iPad and hang out in my neighborhood!  A 5-block walk took me to my bank to make a deposit. Next I popped into Polk Street Florists to say hello to Sylvia and see how business is for her. After hearing about Saturday's wedding for which she's handling the flowers, she asked me about a couple of sales in the San Jose area and values there. I love it when people ask me about the market, especially with specific questions. Now I'm enjoying a coffee at It's A Grind coffee where I'm answering emails, checking my various social media sites, and reading some great Active Rain blogs. Wearing my Today Sotheby's International Realty shirt, I'm ready for mo...

This afternoon we had a delightful Active Rain Meet Up here in San Francisco. What a lead-in to the holiday weekend! People from suburban neighborhoods are often curious what life is like in a large city, so I thought it would be fun to get together at my place in San Francisco, where I could give them a taste of city life while we enjoyed our Active Rain friendships. While small in numbers, we had the chance to really get to know each other better, share business ideas and have fun together. Evelyn Kennedy came from Alameda; Chris Hansen from Oakland. My daughter and on-site assistant, Elizabeth Kendall, came up from my San Carlos area. Ann Williams was our second Oakland representative. Phil Caulfield came from San Mateo, and Bryan Robertson made it here from Los Altos. Several others...

The Upper Polk Street Neighborhood of San Francisco is a bustling area with shops of all types. Located one block east of Van Ness Avenue, near the base of Russian and Nob hills, you'll find a real neighborhood, with a variety of stores to meet your needs. These are not the chains you'll find at a mall but unique-to-San Francisco stores, full of character, owned by and staffed with friendly people who greet you with a smile and make you feel at home. One of the first shops I discovered when moving here is Blinds & Designs, and what a fortunate discovery that proved to be. They carry the Hunter-Douglas blinds I was looking for to finish my home office, and offered to make an appointment for a free in-home consultation so I could be certain I was getting the right amount of opaqueness and...
