Abalone Cove Beach Views & TipsAbalone Cove beach is located on the southwest portion of rancho palos verdes on the palos verdes peninsula. This 1.1 mile out-and-back hike whose path seems straightforward, but here are 9 "things I wish I'd known" before visiting: Abalone cove beach and its hiking trails feature rugged hills with coastal vegetation and wild flowers and is good for most skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Let’s get to our numbered tips:1. PARKING: There is a paid parking lot. The first 30 minutes are not charged, and then it's $2 an hour. If you're wanting the steps and watching the budget, there is street parking near the fire station that is west of abalone cove.2. Abalone Cove Volunteer Workday: The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will sponsor an Outdoor Volunteer Workday at Abalone Cove Reserve from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers will help beautify habitat along the Coastal Trail near Portuguese Point; 310-541-7613 orinfo@pvplc.org. Help the Conservancy restore vital habitat by planting natives and removing invasive species in various preserves around the peninsula. All volunteer work days are on Saturdays from 9am. Training, tools, camaraderie and beautiful scenery are provided, but bring close-toed shoes, water and sun protection. Outdoor workdays will be cancelled if it rains. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes has announced that it has been awarded a grant to improve the Abalone Cove Shoreline Park . In November 2010, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes applied for grant funding under the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Program for the Abalone Cove Shoreline Park Improvement Project. The project proposed adding landscaping, trails, interpretive signage, shade structures, picnic areas, viewing stations and an exploration play area within a 3.69-acre portion of the City’s 80.04-acre Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, located at 5970 Palos Verdes Drive South.
