  The King Fire Has Reached Unbelievable Numbers     The total acres lost is reported to be over 70,000 acres and growing at a rapid rate.   King Fire Roars On     The forest fire which started in Pollock Pines of El Dorado County has roared to 28,000 acres. It is moving in a north eastern direction through the think forest of the Sierras. It is only 5% contained. The first photo was taken from a location down in Sacramento, the second shot was on my way home toward the fire.     09/17/2014

  Local Fire Grows From 3500 to 8600 Acres     The King Fire here in Pollock Pines is still going strong. Only 5% contained, the fire has grown to 8600 acres tonight. The winds and dry vegetation have made it tough for firefighters working this fire. This is not the only forest fire in California, but this one is surely close enough to home. 09/15/2014

  The Smoke Woke Me Up at 3:10am This Morning     The fire in Pollock Pines was at about 100 acres early this morning, we hadn't even heard there was a fire. The smoke was so strong at my house it woke me up. I had to go outside to see if my house was on fire. During the night the winds shifted. Watching the news I finally saw what was happening. The fire was several thousand acres and no containment and it is just up the freeway from Placerville. They say that there are about 800 firefighters working the blaze. We really appreciate the job that they do.   Please keep all those effected by this fire in your prayers.     09/14/2014

Pollock Pines, CA 95726 - Sportsman's Hall Sportsman's Hall in Pollock Pines, California is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 9pm and Sunday from 7am to 9pm. It is a pretty cool and convenient place to stop for a quick meal if you're traveling on Highway 50, midway between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Sportsman's Hall is known as California Landmark 704 and was "California's only home station where riders changed on the Pony Express Trail." Bob and I stopped in for breakfast on our way to Hot August Nights in South Lake Tahoe a couple of weeks ago. Service was very friendly, the food was pretty good, and it was a great place to stop on a motorcycle ride! You gotta love this kitchen if you are a general contractor or a homeowner willing to make some changes. Changes that will greatly improve the value of your home, be more efficient, and more modern and up-to-date. It would be hard to spruce up this kitchen. Why? Because it is all old and outdated. Traveling down Highway 50, West bound, away from Lake Tahoe stops you at a majestic site, Bridal Veil Falls.  When it is in winter and even better during the snow melt, it can really roar.  We were passing and saw that the Bridal Veil was showing, so I had to stop on the side of the road and snap this picture... Now if you look closely at the trees, you can see ghost images of duplicate limps. That is because the actual waterfall is over 150 feet high.  So I took this picture with my iPhone, and auto stitched it together with an app from the iTunes store.  I took about 12 pictures, then chose all 12 and the program matched the picture to create the awesome shot.  You cannot capture the whole falls in one shot, so the program worked great!  It does it in a matter of seconds, on your iPho... 01/23/2011
