    Always a surprise to the visitors of Hangtown (Placerville). The man hanging can be a little unsettling at first but it has been around for decades as a conversation piece. It is located on Main Street and hangs there all day every day with a few exceptions. Placerville has been around for some time and this used to be how justice was handed down here. 11/23/2014

  It's just a small concrete patch, but we have dozens of them.     Trip hazards can be very troublesome in public areas, so getting them fixed is important. We were asked to do some small repairs in a whole bunch of areas this week to eliminate the problem areas. The government agencies will be back to check my work.     11/15/2014

  My Laminate Counter Insider in Placerville   I feel that I have some key people that I rely on for getting the job done on time and in a professional manner. I like to have these key players who I know will get the job done right. I have no need to search over and over for the same thing. I have found such a person when it comes to laminate counters that I need throughout the El Dorado County, Sacramento County, and Placer County.   Cold Springs Golf Tournament Sponsorship   I have never been a tee sponsor for a golf tournament before but I knew the charity was a good cause for the money. All the tournament contributions went to the Juvenile Services Council in Placerville, there were no money used for the tournament. The golf course, volunteers, and generous members all made this a success. While this was my first sponsorship, I was not able to attend. Other commitments needed my attention. The host knew I would not be there so they sent me the photo from the 9th hole at Cold Springs Golf and Country Club.     Can't Help But Think About Staying Warm     As the temperatures begin to drop, I can’t help but think about the firewood supply for the winter.   I Decided to Be A Sponsor     Actually the decision was made to be a tee sponsor at the fundraiser for the Juvenile Service Council was made right away. It's a good cause that I wanted to help with. The real decision was whether or not to actually participate in the tournament. I really can't get away from work on October 20th during the day but I will be helping where I can.     This Can't Be A Safe Way To Live.     It is important that we maintain safe conditions around our water heaters. There are warnings in the instructions, but who reads those anyway. But it just makes sense to keep the area clear. Water heaters need the circulation of air and free of debris. This is especially true for a gas water heater, these units have flames that can cause problems. As a heater ignites it draws air in order for the flames the burn, imagine lint or small paper and things flammable being sucked into the flame and possibly igniting that which is outside the heater unit itself. Having a messy surrounding can quickly mean a fire inside the home. It doesn't take to much imagination to see this as a possibility. Keep the water heater areas clean.     10/11/2014

  There Is Dry Rot But What About The Code Violations?   It seems that everyone and their brother thinks they can build a deck in El Dorado County. Judging by the decks that I have seen here, most were not done by a licensed contractor. I'm sure that most were by well-intended homeowners thinking that they knew how to build a deck. There is nothing wrong with building your own deck, but you still have to follow the same rules as the licensed contractor. If not, it will one day come up as a problem that will need to be addressed, usually upon the sale of the home. I was called out to give an estimate to repair the dry rot damage of a large deck.   Just Back In Town, Gotta Stock Up On The Fruits and Veggies     I don't know about you but we work on using up our perishable foods before we go. We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. We managed to gobble up the goodies before leaving home for several days.   I Know You Had Pets, They Left Clues   Selling your home? We know whether or not you have had pets. As a contractor working on your home or apartment it is not my job to determine what kind and how many pets that you have had living with you. But the clues are there for those working on the home to see. I don't have anything against pets, I think there are many benefits to owning and caring for them. Pets do take a toll on your home or apartment though. You may not always notice the clues that they leave behind but those of us who sell, prepare, and fix your home have seen it all too often to miss.   It Has Been Quite The Lightning and Thunder Show Tonight in El Dorado County   I have always loved listening to the thunder roll through the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. That rumble echoing through the air is incredible, and tonight it have been exceptional. In the last half hour of so we are getting a very light sprinkling of rain.   Will There Be Basketball in Placerville This Weekend?     The Air Quality Index has been fluctuating up and down with the change in winds in Placerville. We can go from normal to Unhealthy in a matter of hours because of the King Fire up the hill. I wonder if those who schedule the Men's Basketball League have taking this into consideration.   Smokey Skies Most Of The Day Today     I took a while to see the sun this morning, the smoke from the King Fire was very heavy. They say that the cooler weather is helping with the fire, but we are long from being done here. This morning there were hundreds of fire trucks from all over the state preparing to fight the fire, relieving those who fought through the night. Seeing all those vehicles lined up in traffic, in the parking lot, and all those fighters brought the reality of this blaze closer to home.     09/19/2014

  Fire Continues To Grow in El Dorado County         I took this shot while heading home yesterday, the smoke shifted a bit last night and was pretty heavy in Placerville. The evacuations continue as the blaze marches up the hill. Our prayers go out to all those in the path today.   09/17/2014

  Time to Start Thinking About Firewood in El Dorado County?       I know it's still summer and the temporature here in California are touching 100 degrees, but winter is not all that far away. Maybe you don't need to have it delivered this weekend but consider doing it soon. Getting the wood delivered before the rains will allow you to store and cover the wood, protecting it from the rain and snow. It will be cold this winter, it always is.     09/03/2014

  Stairs and Decks Can Hide Dry Rot Damage     Whenever anything is mounted to your home, there is a risk of moisture collecting between the two and dry rot and water damage occuring. If possible, creating an air space between the two allows circulation of air and the elimination of debris building up. I looked at this stairway removal and could see that there were water damage that needs to be replace with good wood and siding. This spot is not too bad, things can get a lot worse.     09/02/2014
