 But We Have New Windows Installed  I got a chance to look at some new windows that were install not too long ago with a wood rot problem. The problem is not in the new windows but the original framing and trim of the original window. The retrofitted windows should have included a better job of cleaning up the rotted wood in the wood members before installing the windows. 07/31/2015

 Hey Tom, We Need Your Help Over Here!  Friends and family know that they van call me with their water damage problems, even if it is a current leak. It is what I do most and they know it. It usually is a surprise to get a call, most leaks are like that.The leak was controlled inside the home and the clean up started right away.  "We Had Another Contractor Do The Work” As a contractor in El Dorado County, I get an opportunity to look at and bid on many jobs but I do not get them all. The reason vary as to why I lose some of the projects but it is a competitive market. Good, healthy competition is good for everyone.I bid on a deck project in an apartment community that needed several wood decks repaired or replaced. I hadn't heard from the manager but was looking at another job in the neighborhood. I took the liberty of driving through to see if the work was being done. Sure enough it had been started.I contacted the manager to hear that, “We had another contractor do the work”. But I know that something was wrong, maybe not all of the facts were being verified.  A New View Today  I have always enjoyed the view from the back of my home, we get to see the sunrise up over the horizon. That view got a lot larger after the removal of a large oak tree that had died and remained standing a few years now.   When the oak was still living, it helped to 'frame in” a beautiful sunrise but that turned to an old lifeless tree that seem to be in the way.  Preparing For The Painters  Sometimes I just choose not to ask why, I just give a bid as requested. We get calls to bridge the gap in between other trades, it isn't the most efficient way to do things and probably could have been avoided if a general contractor were used.Today, for example, we will be preparing recent exterior repairs by a contractor for paint. The contractor could have easily made the work ready, but for some reason was not asked to do so. The painter will be preparing the rest of the building for paint, but not this new work for some reason.I don't ask why, I just bid to do the work and it got approved.  Watching the Horsing Around in Greenstone Country   While starting out on my walk, I had a chance to see one of the residents at the horse arena in Greenstone Country in Placerville.   The Good News Is That The Post Isn't Supporting A Lot Of Weight  In looking at this overhang corner post, there is a clear separation between the post and overhang.   Take a look at your brass fixtures, are they looking bad? Many of the brass plumbing fixtures that we see have discolored or tarnished over the years. Many of the fixtures are cheaply made and do not last long before looking bad. Sometimes it is worth paying for better plumbing fixtures.   05/23/2015
