~ Petaluma's Rivertown Rooster on a Speechless Sunday in Sonoma County ~ This unflappable guy is both ironic and iconic.  The irony lies in his metal composition.  I mean how many steel chickens leave you with a warm appreciation for a town?  This one does when you know that it's an aging icon of a town once called the "Chicken Capital of the World."  Just take a look a this photo from an old Montgomery Wards catalogue at the so-called Petaluma Poultry Train loaded with chickens headed to what was also once called "Chick-aluna"...and "P-town."   Agriculture is still a big part of Petaluma's identity and economy although chicken production has become a  smaller part of it.  Perhaps you've heard of Rockey Free Range Chicken?  It's some of the best chicken that can be found---in any town.

Petaluma, CA: A wonderful place to call home. 10 years ago, I never would have guessed I'd be living in Petaluma, CA today. After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1998, I had settled in the lovely bay-side town of Sausalito--at the North end of the Golden Gate Bridge. Petaluma WAS on my radar at the time. It was the Outlet Mall town. Every few months, I'd drive 30 minutes North on Hwy 101 and take the Petaluma Boulevard North exit, shop at my favorite outlet stores, jump back on the freeway and head home. Not once did I drive through Petaluma's lovely downtown. I didn't even know it existed. 7 years ago, I had been dating my now-husband, Jim for a while and when he informed me that he was buying a house in Petaluma, he invited me to move in with him. I didn't really get it. I did...

When buyers visit Petaluma, they usually find one side more appealing than the other almost instantly. Petaluma has almost 55,000 residents, and the one thing they do really well is throw a good old fashioned parade. The Butter & Egg Days and Veteran's Day Parades are not to be missed! Petaluma Weather: A wine country climate. I feel very lucky to live in Petaluma. In comparison to most Bay Area micro-climates, Petaluma's Weather offers a majority of cloudless, sunny days followed by wonderful breezy evenings. My family enjoys most of our late Spring, Summer and early Fall dinners outside. Many homes in Petaluma do not come equipped with air conditioning. Usually, a pleasant evening cross-breeze through open windows can cool a Petaluma home very comfortably. This breeze, unique to Petaluma, has resulted in a relatively new wine growing sub-area of the Sonoma Coast, called The Petaluma Gap Area. On of my personal favorite wineries here is Kastania Vineyards. Most well-known for their delightful Pinots and flavorful Cab-Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon Blends, it is Petaluma wi...
