 The 128th annual Tournament of Roses Parade is now in the history books. So is the 2017 Rose Bowl football game.   And unlike most years it happened on Monday, January 2, 2017.   Even though I had written about it extensively, the tournament’s Never On Sunday policy, this still caught some people by surprise.   I would like to share photos in a slide show presentation of my visit on Monday, January 2 to the 2017 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Showcase of Floats.  Held after the Rose Parade, this was a two day event that gathered all of the floats in one place for people to view.  This year the parade theme Echoes of Success was in evidence in each of the entries.      The total walking distance to see the floats is approximately two miles.   At each float there are either Tournament of R...

It goes back to living on the East Coast dreaming about the California sunshine and how life is so wonderful in California.Fast forward many years later and here we are a short distance from Pasadena and we still love the Rose Parade for mostly the same reasons.Now with that said I wrote a post about one of the other Floats. Toys for Tots Float at the Rose Parade. This float was a joy to see at least for me. My office Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Beverly Hills, CA is a huge supporter of Toys for Tots. Every Holiday Party we have instead of paying to bring guests or donating something. We are asked to bring Toys for Tots. Needless to say since I love books and animals. This float really made me smile and hope many others noticed this Float as well.Not to mention my love for animals of all kind and of course books this Float was a winner in my book:)). Hope you had time to watch the Tournament of Roses Parade and the truly exciting Rose bowl Football Game after it!!! Take A Look At The Floats Before The Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena     Would you like to see a sneak peek of the floats that will appear at the 128th annual Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena on Monday, January 2, 2017.    You can see work in progress by professional float builders at the Rose Palace and the Rose Bowl(Rosemont Pavilion and Brookside Pavilion).  Since a requirement of the floats in this parade dictates that only “natural” materials(flowers, trees, seeds and the like) be used, the combination of time and freshness means a lot of last minute work is necessary.    The Rose Palace is located at 835 South Raymond Avenue.  Brookside Pavilion is located on the south side of Rose Bowl Stadium and Rosemont Pavilion can be found at 700 Seco Street.    Rose Palace is o...

A Very Special Holiday Bonus In Pasadena At Vroman’s Bookstore The holiday season became a little more special for three employees at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena.    This week I saw an announcement from the American Booksellers Association that author James Patterson gave $250,000 in holiday bonuses to 149 independent bookstore employees as a thank you.   The holiday bonuses ranged from $1,000 to $5,000.    Vroman’s with two Pasadena locations had three of those very fortunate employees: Sarah Bumstead and Steven Ross from the Colorado Boulevard flagship store along with Danielle Borsch from the Hastings Ranch location are identified on the website.   There were seven other recipients from Los Angeles County too.    Click here to see if one of your local independent bookstore employe...
