Wordless Wednesdays: guess what came in the mail? The Official Program of the Super Bowl. Every year we are lucky to get the advance copy of the Official Program of the Super Bowl. What is our secret? Well Diane's cousin is the Vice President of Business Development for H.O. Zimman, Inc. the publishers of the Official Super Bowl Program. He has a difficult job indeed, needless to say and one of his requirements is to be at every Super Bowl and hang out with those who advertised in the magazine and in his spare time watch the game. Now with that said, we have been the beneficiaries of getting The Official Program before the game. We end up giving it away to friends and neighbors, every year since we get a couple of them. No one has complained receiving this magazine. Now with that said th...

As most of you know since January 7th, 2025, I have been focusing on the Palisades fires. I did not have the heart to write food and recipe posts.Gratefully all this time our suitcase was just by our front door, and we only loaded it up once in the car and we were very glad that we did need it and put it back by the front door. Now I was gratefully able to continue cooking at home and enjoy good food to distract Diane from the tragedy that was taking place less than 12 miles from us.So, in no particular order, one of the meals I made was a cream of mushroom pasta.Let me share it here the ingredients:1. fresh mushrooms sauteed in extra virgin olive oil2. langostino tails (if you do not have it feel free to substitute red shrimp) with some sweet onions sauté them together.3. Linguini (or a...

As we wake up every morning hearing, reading and watching the Pacific Palisades fires, my advice is that we should be focusing on not what we lost or what others lost. Instead, we should be thinking and saying“…what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love …” Marcus AureliusSo, with that said let me share a few more quotes from one of my favorite philosophers. "You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength." Marcus Aurelius "The best answer to anger is silence." Marcus Aurelius "Stay calm and serene regardless of what life throws at you." Marcus Aurelius "This is the mark of perfection of character—to spend each day as if it were your last, without frenzy, laziness, or any pretending." Marcus Aurelius “It is not deat...

Speechless Sunday: As the fires continue to impact many areas and specifically the Palisades and Malibu areas. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to those who have lost so much. At the same time, I wanted to add a personal lighthearted message in this post."...If we are leaving don't forget our food..." As most of you are aware we have been on standby since last Tuesday, facing the potential that we might have to leave our home. Gratefully the Pacific Palisades fires have not crept closer to us yet.Sadly, it affected other areas like Malibu. Needless to say, it allowed us to casually pack and get organized, in case we needed to go on short notice. No words can capture what we feel as we see the ongoing devastation caused by the wildfires. Our pets have been wondering why we had one of...

Emergency Preparedness Plan. Do you have one? If not here is a short one for you to consider. Thanks to the Pacific Palisades Fires, I thought I would share here an emergency preparedness plan for all to consider. As the Wildfires are just out of control here in the greater Los Angeles area, Diane asked if we should put together our emergency plan. I must admit she was right, especially since we have not updated out emergency kits in about ten years.Keep in mind we should have, because we also live in Earthquake Country. I did not feel like doing the big action plan tonight, so I talked her out of it. Needless to say, next couple days we will get right on it.So, with that said, this not only applies to Los Angeles, CA residents but everyone should have an emergency plan and kit to take w...
