Many people when they visit Los Angeles want to visit the iconic Hollywood sign on Mount Lee. You can view the sign from Hollywood Boulevard and from the the Griffith Observatory on Mount Hollywood. I did not feel a personal desire to need to touch the letters, like some people. It made me wonder why not. Then I realized, I'm not sure you can drive there. I think you have to hike, straight up.I prefer my hiking to occur on more level surfaces. Not a big fan of either going up or going down. However, it is possible to hike to that sign, which is about 6 miles roundtrip from Griffith Observatory. You can read more and see more photographs in my personal blog today at this link: Photos from the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Tired of Figgy Pudding? Non-Traditional Holiday Events in Los Angeles Griffith Observatory is my suggestion for a non-traditional free holiday event, and quite possibly the best thing to experience in Los Angeles. The pictures on this article are from spontaneous visit last week to Griffith Observatory, I’m dreaming about this place and looking forward to my next visit.   The view, the grounds, the architecture, the history will fill you up. On top of that, learning about the stars, planets, and the world will have you looking at the sky in a whole new way. (Oh, and be sure to stop at Yuca's on Hillhurst for burrito's and taco's) If you want to get out have a non-traditional experience this holiday season, Griffith Observatory has the following free events for you: Friday, December 21, ...

Another awesome Pink Martini Concert: this time at the Greek Theater I do not want to sound like a Groupie to “this little great orchestra from Portland Oregon”. Diane and I feel, we discovered them in Los Angeles! We were at the September 14th 2000 Fireworks Concert at the Hollywood Bowl and there was this awesome band performing with Debbie Reynolds, and the rest is history. Next thing you know, we are at the Hollywood Bowl seeing Sergio Mendez, but the real reason we were there is, because of Pink Martini. Then there was the New Years Eve event at Disney Hall Downtown 2003… So, of course were going to the Greek Theater this time, for no other reason, than to see and listen to Pink Martini “the Little Orchestra from Portland Oregon”.  So Diane and I were at The Greek Theater in Los An...

This year's Los Angeles Haunted Hayride "Through the Eyes of a Child" is all about the demented Clifton twins who were the daughters of zoo keeper Ferdinand Clifton.  Propelling those brave enough to venture on these hay filled wagons, you are sure to be faced with the most disturbing fears that afflict most of us.  You will become prey for mascots of death, the 400yr old Clifton twins as well as clowns interested in more than just clowning around.   Bigger and more frightening than ever before, this event is not for the faint of heart for your courage will be tested to the limit!  But don't worry, there is always the "Baby Ripcord" for those not brave enough to see the ride to the end (and you will immediately be escorted out of the ride).  The "Human Menagerie" is also as scary as ev...
