Huntington Beach vacation Time with two Grandsons November, 2013   This is a post about my November 2013 vacation in Huntington Beach California.   I am here to visit my daughter Sue, her husband Chris and my 2 Grandsons Max and Jake.  I will be here for Thanksgiving and head back to Ormond By The Sea on December 4th.. The highlight of the trip is getting to spend time with my 2 Grandsons and Sue and Chris.  I was happy just to sit and watch them play or eat or whatever they were doing.  Reading, playing with the Hot Wheel cars and playing with the little train sets were all fun things we do almost every day.   Max, who is 4, had surgery on his hand yesterday to restore movement of his thumb so his activities are severely restricted for the next month.  He is doing well and has already ...

Surf City Here I Come for Thanksgiving 2013   No, I won’t be doing any surfing although there will be lots of surfers to watch.   This morning I catch an early flight and after laying over to change planes in Atlanta I am off to Huntington Beach California to visit my daughter and two grandsons and son-in-law.  They live about a mile from the beach in Huntington Beach California.   I arrive at John Wayne Airport in Orange County at 11:30AM. west coast time and my daughter will pick me up for the ride to her home. I will make every effort to post and comment here in the rain even though I have not been very consistent with that lately.   Looking forward to seeing Max and Jake (Grandsons) and having some fun on the left coast.  Max is 4 now and Jake is 2 years old. I will return on Wednes...

My November vacation 2012I spent a few weeks out of town last month and would like to add a few highlights here.  I first visited Las Vegas for a reunion of the 6924th Heritage Association, which is a group consisting of those who served in the 6924 Security Squadron in Da Nang Viet Nam.  The group helps us communicate and share photos and stories and they have a reunion in a different place each year and also are involved in helping several charities.A few days in Vegas was plenty and I was able to meet many guys that I have communicated with in the past.  One of the most memorable experiences was participating in the Veterans Day Parade.  I am the one waving in this photo. Then off to Huntington Beach California to spend the rest of my vacation with my daughter, her husband Chris, of ...

Huntington Beach visit August 2012 post 4A day at the beach and the kiddie pool.   Labor Day weekend had us attending 2 parties on Saturday and a block party on Sunday.  Monday began with a trip to the Huntington Beach Pier to have breakfast at Ruby’s Restaurant at the end of the pier.  Breakfast was good and with full bellies we then went to the beach. The kids had a great time digging in the sand and sliding and jumping on the ledge of sand close to the water’s edge.  The waves were HUGE and while there were lots of surfers out there very few actually tried to tame those big waves, they waited for a smaller one.  Most of those we saw tackle a big wave did not make it very far. After lunch we were back home and set up the kiddie pool for the kids and they had a blast going down the slid...

Huntington Beach visit August 2012 post 1Playing in the dirt, playing with the trains, lots of playing going on.  There was a trip to uncle Drew’s complex to go in the pool there and we blew up the little backyard pool one day.  There was jogging and bike riding to the beach where we saw a front end loader bury an expired sea lion.  The boys got a big thrill watching that big machine work and then the driver waved to them to top it off.We had a good Sunday brunch overlooking the beach and later did some Karaoke with the kids and Max turned out to be a microphone hog like his dad.We did a couple of BBQ dinners and had cocktails by the firepit after dinner.  Sometimes it is a relief when the boys go to bed and we can relax a little.  Keeping up with them is a chore. All in all the weather ...

Not only do you have to understand what type of mortgage you should choose, you have to understand the costs associated with your mortgage. All of these costs will be paid upon closing your mortgage. Often times borrowers like to pay out of pocket instead of financing the costs into the loan. Purchase Points How do you decide whether you should buy points and if so, how many? Well, the decision should be based on how long you plan on living in your home and what you can afford to pay each month toward your mortgage. If you plan on living in your home for more than five years, it's probably a good idea to purchase points. The longer you live in your home, the more you can save on interest over the life of the loan.Purchase points, also known as a "buy-down" or "discount points," are an u...
