My grandmother used to say “The only thing on the news these days is Bad News” that was nearly 40 years ago…She refused to watch the evening news as she grew older.  I understand now what she was doing, and why.  Although the negative then was not as Epic as the negative now she kept  informed with the important things in life but protected all of us from the negative outlook on life according to the evening news reporter. We can all take a lesson from my grandmother on that topic. I don’t think anyone in America has escaped a daily update on America’s Imploding Status…From the National Debt of $14 Billion Plus to the fact there are over 1.9  million mortgage loans being 90 plus days late with 42 percent of those homeowners not making a mortgage payment for over a year…icing on the cake...

Banks are agreeing to more short sale transactions, and short salesare taking less time to sell, which is helping to clear large inventories of distressed properties more efficiently, says James J. Saccacio, RealtyTrac CEO, in releasing new housing data this week. “This is a glimmer of hope that lenders are getting more realistic,” Rick Sharga, senior vice president of RealtyTrac, told Bloomberg News. “It’s a win for borrowers who avoid foreclosure, buyers who get a house in better condition and banks that lose less money, which is also a win for taxpayers.” During the second quarter, the number of homes nearing foreclosure accounted for 12 percent of total home sales, with banks agreeing to more transactions at prices below the outstanding mortgage balance, RealtyTrac reported in relea...

Sometimes we need to imagine living some of the “finer” luxuries of life.  I’m more of a sports participant…opting out of the hours of mindless TV sport programs…I find more joy in sweating and getting “beaten” up by my opponents…or beating them. I found these homes and their features to be great representations of what I would call dream homes for me.. Thanks Zillow for the help! We’ve written about what celebrities want in a home, but if you’re a professional athlete, you may have a couple of special amenities in mind that other stars wouldn’t consider, like a regulation-sized football field, batting cage and, of course, personal gym. With the college football season just around the corner, the NFL preseason heating up and baseball looking forward to some exciting pennant races, we’ve...

Who likes to use lemons in the staging of their listings?  I love the freshness that it adds (not so much in this photo with the distraction of the espresso cups)!  It gives a warmth to those entering the kitchen and a certain chic-ness or coolness to the kitchen.   I think having lemons also makes the kitchen more "organic"...kind of like you can squeeze them and make lemonade, or you can utilize them in your cooking, food prep, etc....they are pretty much multi-purpose.  That's one of the things I love about having them introduced into a kitchen that is being staged. Are there other staging tricks you like to use when you're staging your listings?

Where do I start…there is no eloquent entree into losing your home… I say “losing” your home, but actually in today’s economy that might not be an accurate statement… you may have realized that “keeping” your home is what is standing in your way of financial and emotional recovery for you and your family. Kris and I have lived through that horrifying reality.  Realizing that the odds are stacked against you and there is no way to continue on without making great changes in life…and a significant one like having your home not be “your home” any longer is huge. As our housing market continues a downward trend we take note that unemployment continues to rise.  The mix of these two elements have done serious damage to consumer confidence. My husband and I work closely with families everyda...

Okay, so my first job in high school was working for Baskin Robbins, or 31 Flavors as my family has always called it.  I got the job the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, and as you can imagine it was really busy.  It's actually one of the busiest 31 Flavors stores that I know.  I loved driving myself to work in my father's old Toyota pick up that was a stick and didn't have power steering.  Yep, I always believe if I could drive that, I could drive anything. Anyway, the Baskin Robbins is on the corner of Elwood and Route 66.  The all glass front is right on the street corner.  And, yes, you guessed it, there was a car accident about six months ago (drunk driver of course) which anhilated the front of the store.  It's been closed and lost, I'm sure quite a bit of...

This was just published by Diana Olick…I don’t know about you but I question the irony of lenders giving incentives to homeowners that will promise to pay for their upside down mortgage instead of offering principal reductions to those homeowners? I don’t see this working.  People are smarter than that, in this economy you have to be on top of your game and know when to cut your losses.  When an investment starts costing money…with no notable recovery in site what do businesses do?  They cut losses, sell off under performing stocks , file Chapter 13 and reorganize the company or just file Chapter 7 and start fresh with a clean slate. It’s unfortunate in my opinion that so much focus has been put on “morals” and “doing the right thing” or “legal obligations”. Americans would not be in...

Who would have thought that we as a Nation would be going through such financial turmoil just a few short years ago… We were at a family BBQ yesterday, and as we followed our GPS to our destination we were saddened but not surprised of all the homes that were boarded up with “No Trespassing” Signs.  Not to mention all of the commercial buildings along the freeway with huge banners “For Lease” in what seemed to be every shopping center we passed. It’s painfully obvious that our economy has a way to go on the long road to recovery, and I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Now, let me get to the subject of Short Sales and Foreclosures. Many homeowners are still confused about the difference, and one crucial element that is missed by not understanding a foreclosure is tha...

A short sale is a sales transaction for which a seller’s mortgage lender voluntarily agrees to accept a loan payoff of less money than what is owed on the mortgage loan.  In a short sale, the property may or may not be in foreclosure.  However, homeowners may consider short sales as a viable option for avoiding foreclosure. http://www.shortsalescalifornia.org/consumers/

We enjoy having cat and dogs and other animals as pets in fact they become like family.  Look closely and you will find them in a family picture, in a photo album, in picture frames, by our side, in our lap, in a word inseparable. So the attachment that we have to them is understandable, especially a pet that we have had for years. The live span however is not as long as we would like it to be.  As they get older we become more and more concern about their health, and to have the very best Veterinarian, one that is fully dedicated to their work that will somehow perform a miracle just so we can keep our pet a little longer is one-half the battle. There is one such Veterinarian in the city of Glendora CA.  Dr. Strange of the Glendora Veterinary Clinic.  A good Veterinarian, the primary c...

Donuts anyone? The Food Network  featured a local business man on their episode of "American's Best" Top 10 Sweets.  best-top-ten-sweets     Coming in at #6 and described as one of the country's most memorable desserts, is a sweet treat strawberry donut from The Donut Man in the city of Glendora.  The owners of the donut shop, Jim and Miyoko Nakano, are well know for their seasonal strawberry and peach stuffed donuts. In season now is the pumpkin spice cream cheese donut.  Other treats from the Donut Man include the glaze, old fashioned, cake, cream filled (Bavarian and cream cheese) donuts, apple fritters to name a few.  There is always a crowd waiting for these sweet treats.  The name Donut Man came from an experience the owner had when a little girl pointed to him and said "There's t...
