New Counters To Be Installed Next Week In Folsom Apartments   New counters installed in apartments can be a part of the regular maintenance of the property or a part of a renovation project. Either way it is important to find a contractor who can both install the cabinets and be able to work in an apartment environment. Along with the installation, there are other trades that may be involved. Electrical, cabinetry, and plumbing may need to be moved or altered in some way. It is good to have a contractor with an understanding of all trades when installing counters. If you have a need for apartment renovation or counter replacement in Folsom, contact a qualified general contractor in your local area.

Not Only Is The Caulking Ugly, It's No Longer Working   There are many purposes for caulking in and around your home. On the exterior, it can help keep water from coming into the windows and doors. It can seal cracks and seams to make surfaces look better before painting too. On the interior, we see caulking used in the kitchen around the sink or the shower in the bathroom. The application of the caulk will determine which of the products that you will need. Read the directions on the tube before using. In the photo we can that if the caulking is not done right, it can look pretty ugly. More importantly, the caulking has failed. It should be a regular part of your home's maintenance to check for cracks and separations in the caulking seal. This separation allow water to get past and c...

"The Large Beam in the Living Room Is Falling”     I love to hear voice mail messages from potential customers, it allows me a little time to think about what is really going on that needs to be addressed. Sometimes the story that I hear is hard to believe and I think of what is probably happening and a way to correct the problem.   The call that I got regarding a beam in the living room falling made me think of what kind of force would be needed to make that happen. Beams at the peak of the ceiling will likely be bearing weight and is there for structural reasons. The ends are usually nestled in a pocket for great support on either end of the board.   It's not that this is not possible, but it is unlikely under normal circumstances. When I went out to look at the beam, I discover som...

The Whole Room Looked Crooked     I walked into a bathroom to check on a shower and noticed that the flooring wasn't right. I had to take off my glasses because I think that was creating an illusion. When installing flooring that doesn't have lines or some sort of reference to being square this may not matter, but it did here. I could really get what I was looking at in this photo because the room and it's walls couldn't be put into one shot. Imagine how this wood grain vinyl running along the walls and seeing that the wall and grain weren't parallel. I estimate that the floor was probably off only above 5 degrees but it was the first things that I noticed before walking in. I would have thought that the flooring installer would have noticed and corrected the material long before maki...

Drilling Drainage in a Concrete Balcony Slab Is Not A Good Idea, Even If You Are A Contractor     I could see this one coming years ago, the idea of drilling a hole in a waterproof concrete deck just didn't make sense to me at the time. It didn't take long for it to begin leaking, it was today that the decision makers final saw the problem. A few years back, another general contractor was called to repair a lightweight concrete deck. This is something that we do, but the nod went to the other guy. I happen to be working on other projects during this time and noticed that things were taking much longer than usual for this size deck. Apparently the concrete was poured and said to be completed. Days later it had rained and the water was puddling pretty bad. To solve the problem the contr...

What's New In Plumbing? You May Not Care, But Know!   As a General Contractor in Sacramento, I get to see trends come and go over time. When it comes to the field of construction and building materials there is always trends that change how things appear and how they work. I’m sure we can remember when the single handle faucet first came out. What a cool idea! It looked sleek and the parts were fewer. No longer did we need a two handle system. What about use of the new fluorescent bulbs that are energy efficient? I don’t think that Home Depot even sells the incandescent bulbs anymore. Of course, Granite counters are the new norm when it comes to counters. We could go on and on with all the changes. But this is one that you may not have noticed. The angle stops, that shutoff valve unde...

We Have To Clean That Water Damage Up   Often times when we are opening walls and doing repairs caused by water and moisture intrusion, we find more that needs to be addressed. There is no way of knowing the extent of this water damage but it should be cleaned up. We like to warn our clients of this possibility before we get started. We do this for a few reasons. It usually involves an additional cost because it requires more work to get this corrected. We need to get a quick reply to the findings. This type of repair can stop the project if not approved on the spot. Not everyone knows that there is a chance of additional moisture damage that is not seen. Many believe that the problem is limited to what they see. Many of my clients trust me to be honest and know that I can do the what...

What I don't want you to know about the Folsom MeetUp today!         If you have ever hosted a MeetUp, you know the greatest fear of being a host – no one showing up! That is what happened to me today, and it was a bit scary. How was I going to come to ActiveRain and share with you? Of course I had a lot of time to think about it.   I had a chance to read many of the other hosts' posts, many had a low turnout, but not quite this low. Maybe my MeetUp could be called an EatUp because I did do that. I had a Bison Burger for the first time and it was good. The servers were very nice and patient with me. I considered having them take my picture but that just didn't sound good. I hope that I still get credit for the EatUp.   Am I upset about the turnout? Not really. I did hear from many who...
