The gorgonzola gives the sauce a bite, but it's not overpowering. I saved about a third and had it for lunch the next day. Mmmm, good.My spouse had Grilled salmon served with prawns and pico di gillo (the evening special) - The salmon comes grilled, topped with approx. 4 large prawns and has pico di gillo on top of that. Here's what's going on today - I wandered across Northcrest Drive yesterday to the old Northridge Electric building to see what's going on. There has been a number of local contractors coming and going for a few weeks and my curiosity finally overcame me, yes it took two weeks. So, I drove across the street, parked my car, went in and checked it out.Renovating for new business - There is a huge room full of gym equipment with locker rooms going in this week. Yes, a new gym. All the equipment from Ramblin' Rose was purchased and moved to this location. There will also be tanning beds, a masseuse, and some professional offices for rent; there is already a spray-on-bed-liner business. I am trying to get the skinny on what the owner is going to do with the exterior. Hopefully beautify it in...

Pizza King 1348 Front Street Crescent City, CA. Phone: 707-464-4890 Prices: Sandwiches - $5.45 - $6.25, entree's - $7.10 (pasta) - $12.15 (ribs), Lg combo pizza - $20.30. Menu includes salad bar and desserts. Serves lunch and dinner, has arcade games and a lounge with pool tables. Is available for club meetings and events for 20-60 people. The building was recently remodeled, is clean and pleasant. My husband and I always order the large combo pizza with a pint of beer (Mirror Pond, Steelehead, Bud and Miller on tap). The pizza has a nice amount of toppings, but not super thick and heavy so that the pizza is greasy (I don't like greasy pizza) and the ingredients are fresh. We haven't been disappointed yet! To stay abreast of all things Del Norte, check-out and book-mark my blog, Del Nor...

The Lake Earl, Lake Tolowa Wildlife Refuge area is a wetland that begs to be explored.  Nearly 300 bird species have been recorded here.  In winter the water is alive with waterfowl, along with Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, and other raptors.  There are miles of hiking trails that are pristine, peaceful, and full of many different species of plants and mammals.  Lake Earl, A Beautiful Place to Live - There is only one neighborhood in Del Norte County that borders the Lake Earl Wildlife Refuge and I live in that neighborhood.  The street is aptly named Lakeside Loop and is a wonderful place to live.  I can hear the ocean from my home most of the time.  You can see by the picture that a narrow spit of land keeps Lake Earl from the Pacific ocean; when the lake gets too full from winter r...

Jedediah Smith State Park picturesThis is a picture taken of me on the Hiouchi trail in Jedediah Smith State Park.  There are several trailheads where this hike begins.  If you are heading north on Highway 199 from Crescent City, pull into the turn-out on the right side of the road before the Hiouchi Bridge.  This hike gives you spectacular views of the Redwoods, the Smith River, many varieties of flora and fauna, and in the spring, spectacular rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom.  Approximately a half mile into the hike, there is a bench overlooking the river where we stood to take the picture below and rest a bit.The Hiouchi Trail hike is for a novice to average hiker (that's what I am).  We hiked in about an hour and then back out one afternoon after work.  There are trailheads simila...

Castle Rock National Wildlife RefugeThis stretch of the California Coastline is worth the drive.  Please read about the sanctuary at the link above.  A few 100 feet south from this spot is a popular surfing location for local surfers.  The day I took this picture, the beach was sparsely populated with people enjoying the surf and sunshine, collecting agates, driftwood, shells, walking their dogs, and in my case, sitting and enjoying the view.  Pebble Beach Drive borders this stretch of ocean with many turnouts for easy parking and access.  Get Del Norte County, Crescent City real estate listings delivered to your email. To keep abreast of everything Del Norte, please check-out and book-mark my blog, Del Norte County Happenings.

http://www.triplicate.com/ Published: January 11, 2007 Special to The Daily Triplicate/Dawn Messer A rare snow fall dusted Crescent City shortly after sunrise today, making for a number of beautiful scenes, including this one caught by city resident Dawn Messer at Pebble Beach. A dusting of snow greeted Crescent City residents shortly after dawn today. Most of the snow evaporated within an hour as temperatures rose about freezing. Less than an inch accumulated, the National Weather Service in Eureka reported. With the snowfall so light, no weather-related accidents were reported in the area. Snow had fallen at elevations above 500 feet Wednesday, including at Vista Point south of the city. Cold temperatures through the night, however, caused what normally would be winter rain to freeze...

My name if Fran Gatti and I live and work in Del Norte County, California.  Del Norte (pronounced Del Nort) is the Northern-most California County that borders the Pacific Ocean.  We are home to Redwood National and State Parks, the Smith River, the Klamath River (both are premier Steehead fishing rivers) and miles of unadulterated beaches where you can be the only person walking for miles.  Our temperatures are mild in Crescent City, which borders the ocean, but can get into the 100's inland in the summer.  Del Norte gets a lot of rain, but that keeps our county lush and green.  The Star Wars movie with the actors riding on flying motorcycles was filmed in our old-growth Redwood forest.  Our county is small in comparison to most California counties, at least population wise, with 30,00...
