We've been thinking about the day we (can) retire, though it's down the road a bit, and where we'd like to put down roots. What area of California, if we stay here? Or, what other state, if we head out?  We go through Google's "Best Places To Retire" and every place, to me, at least,  looks perfect: quaint, quiet, calming, charming. Places where you'd like to take morning walks and evening strolls. One place we stumbled across while searching is Plantation By The Lake in Calismesa CA. It's near Yucaipa CA, a sweet town and oh-so-close to Oak Glen, one of my favorite places to go to for apple pie!Plantation by The Lake is a senior (yep, senior) community (55 years and over) of manufactured homes (that look like regular, residential homes to me) sitting on beautiful, roomy lots. This commu...

Do You Think People Read Your AR Blog....Absolutely This past several weeks I have received multiple phone calls from two people who read my blog and both touched my heart. I decided to share the stories.  1) I received a call from a local minister and he asked me about a post I published on AR last year regarding an icon restaurant called Griswold's that was open for approx 40 years and closed down in 1978. Most locals within 50 miles around went there for Sunday breakfast or for special occasions and holidays. I had found a post card I had bought in the gift shop there in the 70's and that was what stimulated me to write the post in the first place. Cars in the post card were from the 50's and it was a cool shot. This place was a Danish Smorgasbord and with terrific food....and  oh my...

Do You Know the Fair Housing Rules about Service AnimalsFrom the Real Estate Files 2.pub Service Animals Many landlords and property managers do not know that people with disabili􏰁es have the right under both Federal and California Law to use the services of a guide, signal or service animal and to keep those animals in their residences. In fact, a “service animal” is specifically defined by law to not be considered a “pet.” They are given the same defini􏰁on as an auxiliary aid such as a wheel‐ chair, walker etc. A service animal can be any species. Also, there is no legal requirement that a service animal be specifically trained or cer􏰁fied. If requested by a person with a disability, a landlord or property manager must make reasonable accommoda‐ 􏰁ons for the animal. These accommoda􏰁on...

Would You Rent or Buy Jeffrey Dahmer's  Home Tonight on the national news, a segment about Jeffrey Dahmer's childhood home is on the market  for rent in July 2016 during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Ohio. Jeffrey Dahmer, a convicted serial killer, now deceased, used to live in a home built in 1952 in the city of Bath, Ohio and is 25 miles from Cleveland. This was his family home and the remains of his first victim was found in the woods behind this home. The owner was renting the house for $8,000 for the month of July. In the past hour, the ad was removed and a new one appeared for $10,000. The home was purchased in 2005 for $295,000 and the new owner has been renovating it. It is a 2,170 SF home with 3 Bed/2Bath, 2 acres, a pond, and backs up to the National Forest. T...

History of the Easter Bunny in the USA The first mention of the 'Easter Bunny' tradition is traced back to the 1700's when German immigrants settled in Pennsylvania Dutch communities and celebrated "Osterhaus". This was where the children made nests and the Easter Hare could lay colored eggs in them. The idea was like Santa Claus where good children would receive colored eggs and later the tradition turned to candy and gifts. The colored eggs were made by dying the eggs with flowers. Dying the eggs green was a reflection that the spring was coming. Some communities dyed their eggs red which was more of a religious idea of the Blood and rebirth of life.Easter has become a multi-million dollar business in the US and celebrated by wearing of hats, dressing up to go to church, and getting Ca...

Holiday Decorations in Many Calimesa CA Neighborhoods December 2015There are so many people in the Inland Empire who decorate their homes for the holidays every year and many cities have contests for the best decorated home. Calimesa also has that contest and the winners were announced on December 21st. Congrats to the winners. I thought I would display some of the lovely homes and here is the park in Redlands. Streets of beautiful homes decorated for the holidays wishing onlookers a happy holiday. This Calimesa house had 3 trees but I just couldn't get the picture with them all in it.   This Calimesa house has red and green lights and it reminds me of one my favorite things, polka dots.More lights in Loma Linda. Here comes Santa and his reindeer's stopping by someones house with present...

What I Am Grateful For This Holiday SeasonDuring the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays I am always reminded of many things I am grateful for and how these 5 items impact my life and career in a positive way. 1. My Love of God- I was raised in a Christian home and feel it was probably the best gift my parents passed on to me. I still attend church, pray and spread the word. Of course #2 is just below #1.2. My Parents- I grew up in a wonderful home in a small city of Riverside. My father was a pilot in the Air Force and away a lot of the times when I was growing up. My mother took such great care was always my best friend. My parents instilled in me high morals, love of God, the importance of education, and the love of family, good friends plus my appreciation for nature and my pets. My...

Fresh & Easy Stores Closing with 3,000 Layoffs Fresh & Easy is a 2007 grocery chain that has struggled for several years in Southern California has started  closing its business. Other stores such as Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods were tough competitors for Fresh & EasyAs I drove by the Yucaipa store and later the Calimesa store, they both had signs posted that they were closing the doors and selling off the fixtures.A Fresh & Easy spokesperson said that Fresh & Easy didsn't have enough cash and couldn't obtain financing to continue operating the business though the company had been turning around their finances but just couldn't survive the market. The company operates 97 stores in California, Nevada and Arizona. Southern California is home to 54 locations. Stores are currently ...

A New Way to Sell Real Estate by Using Cats & Dogs VideosWe are always trying to think out of the box to stand out from others or to attract potential buyers for our listings. This morning I saw where a real estate team had prepared two videos and posted to attract buyers. I believe this is very cute and these videos may go viral and hopefully get their properties sold quickly. One video was done with kittens they borrowed from a local shelter. The second one was done with a corgy dog who played a Realtor which I have included below.Good job to the 'San Francisco Good Life Team' for being very creative. I enjoyed both videos but the Corgy Realtor was my favorite. Here are the links;Corgi Realtor- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F8A_4nOGasKitten Invaders- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Do You Remember Your First?Your First Listing or SaleMany years ago when I started selling real estate, I knocked on a door that had a FBSO sign on the front porch. During my 2 week training, the company had suggested door knocking but I had dismissed this idea since I hate people knocking on my door.Well, to make a long story short, the very nice couple called me 1 day later and said "Please bring the contracts over as we are ready to have you list our home". This of course was music to my ears! I sold it within 25 days which seemed like an eternity back then. I closed it within 30 days and of course was very excited. The sellers were such nice people and this photo reminds me of them and their lovely home in South Redlands, CA. One of my lender friends, Kerry Mutter, brought me over th...

Safety Tips for Children & Pets at Halloween  Children Safety: Make sure costumes are not dragging on the ground as kids can trip and fall. Wear comfortable shoes and trick-r-treat preferably in a group. Use florescent tape on costume or carry a flashing becon or light stick to be seen by drivers. Kids should stay on sidewalk and only cross the street carefully. Buy Flame-Retardant costumes and wigs. Tell your kids "NEVER enter a house or car for a treat". Wait to eat candy until they bring it home and parents check it. Throw out any opened or unpackaged foods/candy. If your child gets something suspicious, call the police. Small children should not trick-r-treat without a parent. In cold weather, put long underwear and socks underneath the costume. At parties, make sure kids do not gra...
