California - One of the most Beautiful Places on Earth ... ” One of the most beautiful coastlines in the world “  California, (BIG SUR). California to me has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth, next to Alaska and Oregon. I have traveled to California ever since 1974. I moved to Portland Oregon when I was 16 years old with one of my best friends. I worked 6 months out of the year and traveled 6 months out of the year. And where do you think I traveled to? (California) of course! I use to hitch-hike, that’s right hitch when I was 16 years old by myself all through California. All the way down the whole coast through the Redwoods in Humboldt County, Mount Shasta in Redding, San Fransisco, Monterrey, Carmel where Clint Eastwood has a restaurant and lives, Fresno, Big Sur, San ...

 - CALIFORNIA DREAMING Everyone that knows me figured it would just be a matter of time before I formed a group about California. I have blogged so many photos and stories about the West Coast State, I had to go beyond the realms of duty.  My first visit to the wonderful State of CALIFORNIA was back it 1974 when I was only 16 years of age.  I moved to the West Coast from Minnesota when I was 16 years old with a friend from school and lived in Portland Oregon. At this time I would hitch-hike down the whole West Coast through CALIFORNIA.  With a back-pack, harmonica in one hand & a Bible in the other I would travel up and down Hwy 1 and 101 taking in the wonders of the West Coast.  When I lived back home in Minnesota in the winters I started listening to a song on my record player, I wou...

Elephant Seals - Birds & Animals of the Monterey Peninsula Series These incredible animals can be seen at the Elephant Seal Rookery on the Big Sur Coast about 8 miles North of San Simeon. The rookery has a population of about 8,000. The mating season (and the best time to see them) is from December to April.Another good place to see them is at Ano Nuevo, North of Monterey. These big males can weigh 2 1/2 tons and be from 14 to 16 ft. long. They are protected so you can't get too close. (Or maybe we are protected!)    Moving to Monterey Peninsula, Looking for Real Estate in Carmel, Big Sur, Pebble Beach or Carmel Valley?  copyright 2008 by E. Begley

Big Sur Coast - What a Drive!     If you are in a hurry, then don't take the drive along the Big Sur Coast between Carmel in Monterey County and Cambria (San Luis Obispo County. But when you have the time and want a visual treat - this is the way to go! You will see steep cliffs, rugged canyons as you drive. Be prepared to pull over frequently to take a closer look and to take pictures! The drive is approximately 77 miles and about 1 1/2 hours - not counting stops!     When the fog is just beginning to drift in, the scenery can be stunning.   Interested in living here?Fine Art Prints of the Monterey Peninsulacopyright 2008 E. Point Sur Light House - Big Sur Coast, California This is a beautiful lighthouse and location. It is great to see it at anytime. But if you can, go on a Moonlight Lighthouse Tour! Then you get to see the lighthouse at work. To visit this lighthouse it is by guided tour only. Wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothes. If it's at night dress warmly and brace youself for the wind. You park below in the parking lot and walk up the hill. The walk and view along the way is gorgeous. It's less than a mile. The tours are first come, first served, reservations not accepted. So arrive early as numbers are limited.  As everyone knows me by now, they know how much I love the California Coast line. And just by looking at this photograph you can understand why.  I have traveled many places in my life and the West Coast, California, Oregon and Washington State have some of the most breath-taking views in the World.  Some day in the future, one of my dreams will to have a little place on the West Coast where I can hang my hat. A place where I can breath the flesh salt air and walk along the beach and think about how beautiful a World we live in. To relax and share the moment with someone I love and not worry about money, food, and all the different worries of the world.  To slow down and enjoy life the way is was intended.  " Have a wonderful day everyone and try to relax "         photograph and stor...

Visit Nepenthe Restaurant in Big Sur, California This post has nothing to do with Carlsbad, where I live, nor the information I have about my community happenings, inventory, market conditions or other useful tidbits. It IS about the beauty of the California coastline, which was truly revealed to me on my trip last weekend up the Central Coast from San Luis Obispo to Monterey (and ultimately to San Francisco). A trip along Route 1 north from SLO to Monterey is an amazing visual experience. One cannot help but be in awe of the gorgeous landscape, the power of the ocean against the edge of the continent, the triumph of construction to create an incredible 2 lane road at the edge of the mountains overlooking the sea or extraordinary homes perched on cliffs, and the raw power of Mother Nat...

It is the rainy season on the Big Sur Coast.  So far, we haven't had nearly enough rain, less than half what is normally expected by this time of the winter.  The Monterey County Herald reports rainfall on the Big Sur Coast, from July 1, 2007 until now at 10.54 inches.  Normal expected rainfall to date should be 22.88 inches.  Several days we've had light showers with the sun breaking through every little while.  One day I saw five different rainbows, each for only a few minutes.  Over the next few weeks, I'm expecting plenty of precipitation.  I'll carry my camera with me to catch more of these colorful moments.
